Alex Masi - In The Name Of Bach
Alex Masi - In The Name Of Bach
Genre: Instrumental Guitar ? Label: Lion Music ? Country: Italy ? 57:50 ? MP3: CBR 128 kbps ? RAR: 50MB
(Acoustic/Classical/Neo-Classical Metal)
Lovers of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach and the guitar
should check out Italian guitarist Alex Masi's In The Name Of Bach.
Forget enjoying Bach's pieces only on violin or keyboard, this CD is all guitar. Masi performs the majority of the 15 pieces on
Manne Semiacoustica guitars (acoustic), but four of the pieces feature Masi blazing through prestos, toccatas and fugues on
Rostrum electric guitars. One selection, "Presto From Violin Sonata #1 in G Minor BWV 1001" is an all electric guitar solo piece
which Masi gives the metal edge to with an overdriven sound. Bach's unforgettable "Toccata And Fugue In D Minor BWV 565"
is rendered with both electric and acoustic guitars, and Masi conveys the power and brilliance of the piece with his arrangement.
No bass, no drums -- In The Name Of Bach is Masi's all guitar tribute to these masterworks.
Tracklist:
01. Toccata & Fugue In D Minor BWV 565 [09:25]
02. Prelude In G Minor From Well Tempered Clavier BWV 870 [00:56]

On their second album, the perpetually dark-clad Black Rebel Motorcycle Club offers another set of feedback-drenched songs. Though the band still wears its Jesus & Mary Chain influence on its leather sleeves, TAKE THEM ON, ON YOUR OWN reveals ... Full Descriptiona refined sound that hints at other musical forebears. The opening track, "Stop," rocks like a latter-day Oasis tune, while "We're All in Love" is carried along by a slinky Stones-like riff. Although wide-screen, Ride-inspired epics are no longer the order of the day for the brooding lads of BRMC, their renewed focus is evident on TAKE's furiously concise anthems. Just to mix things up a bit, the Rebels add a vaguely political tone to a number of tracks and even bust out the acoustic guitars on "And I'm Aching." In a pleasant surprise, the trio saves some of its finest songs, such as "Suddenly" and "Rise or Fall," for the end, rounding out their solid sophomore outing.
Japanese edition of the indie rock act's eagerly anticipated sophomore album features 16 tracks including 3 exclusive bonus tracks 'Take Them On, On Your Own', 'High/Low' & 'Waiting Here'. Copy Controlled. Virgin. 2003.

A significant departure for Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, HOWL finds the Los Angeles-based trio abandoning the cold, amped-up sound of TAKE THEM ON, ON YOUR OWN in favor of a more heartfelt, acoustic-oriented aesthetic. (It's noteworthy that ... Full Descriptionfrontman Robert Turner has gone back to his birth name, Robert Levon Been, and his father, Michael Been, of the 1980s band the Call, contributes piano to one track.) The album's artwork nods to classic '60s record sleeves, and it's no coincidence; the music here is stripped-down and folk-inflected, revealing a major change from the group's earlier reverb-heavy, Jesus & Mary Chain-influenced vibe. Elements of rural blues, soul, and even gospel work their way into these tunes, but the BRMC stills rocks--just in a more inspired and inventive way. Those who had written the band off after TAKE THEM ON will likely embrace HOWL, which shows a promising act making bold steps to revitalize its career.

One of the last fervent flag-wavers of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, Saxon unleashes its 18th studio release. One of the most dynamic and epic albums of the band's career, INTO THE LABYRINTH combines the Deep Purple-meets-AC/DC barroom ... Full Descriptionrock with progressive, near-Teutonic metal anthems. The elements that truly make the album special are Biff Byford's laid-back, swaggering vocal style and Charlie Bauerfeind's (Blind Guardian, Helloween, Gamma Ray) rich production. INTO THE LABYRINTH closes with a stripped-down, bluesy rendition of the fan favorite "Coming Home," the original version of which appeared on 2001's KILLING GROUND.Record Collector (magazine) (p.101) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "The building, rhythmic, choir-like intro to opener 'Battalions Of Steel' soon shifts into classic speed metal with a nod to Manowar."

Jon Finn Group--Wicked 1998
Wicked is the Jon Finn Group's second CD. Released on their own SEP Records label in 1998, it gained quite a lot of critical acclaim. Guitar Player Magazin exclaimed, "Wicked rocks!" Featuring Joe Santerre on bass, Dave DiCenso on drums, Ross Ramsay on keyboard, and Jon Finn on guitar, this CD is the next logical step in their musical evolution; focusing more on the compositions and ensemble chemistry. This CD continues their tradition of exploring wildly disparate musical styles while exerting an individual musical voice. Guest appreance by Dream Theater's guitarist, John Petrucci. This album contains 10 songs and is almost an hour long.
Jon Finn (and his group players) teach in Berkely, Boston.
Finn is the head of rock guitar and many of his students speak
well about him . yeah , i love him too !!!
Skilbarton writes about this cd on amazon:
The Jon Finn Group is one of the best progressive rock trios anywhere. Jon has to be heard to be believed. He plays fast and clean and his songs are exciting and fun. He is Steve Morse, Joe Satriani and Stevie Ray Vaughn all rolled into one with a fantastic pair of backers.
Joe Santerre is a tremendous six string bassist in his own rite with two jazz oriented albums to his credit, and Dave Dicenzo...well there is really no describing Dave on drums. Power, speed, and taste are a good start.
All three teach at the Berklee School of Music in Boston, but don't let that fool you. This is not a jazz album by any means. It really ROCKS! A highlight is the song entitled "If Steve Ray Vaughn Went to Berklee and Played Jazz". It transitions back and forth between a fiery SRV section and a jazzy section. (Jon loves to make fun of Berklee's reputation as a school for jazz musicians only.) Finally Jon pulls out the Bic lighter and uses it as a slide and things really get out of control!

Autumnal - Dark Moor
***Pre-Release***
2009 release from the Spanish Power/Symphonic metallers, the seventh in their prestigious career. In August 2008, Dark Moor came back to Italy to work with their producer, the renowned Luigi Stefanini, in order to record this new masterpiece. ... Full DescriptionThis album is undoubtedly the most intriguing Dark Moor work so far. The powerful Symphonic Metal which gave the band its phenomenal reputation all around the world is still here but the wide range of new sounds, from the Celtic atmospheres of "Phantom Queen", to the Arabian melodies of "When The Sun Is Gone" and the mystical and Gothic-oriented approach of "The Enchanted Forest", will give Dark Moor's fans something worth waiting for. Artwork duties were handled by Canadian artist Yaga Kielb. 11 tracks

Night Electric Night - Deathstars
***Pre-Release***
kbpsVBR
Scheduled Release 02/03/09
2009 album from the Swedish Gothic Metal band. Night Electric Night is about their lives and their experiences, their personal issues and the action/horror/drama which represents the manic environment that the band exists within. It deals a ... Full Descriptionlot with reflections of situations right then and there, and this time the Swedes have really put it all together in an exquisite way. The Deathglam style they originated with their first two albums sounds more huge and alive than ever; it's dark and cold, yet massively heavy and warm - a paradox that defines the very essence of Deathstars. Produced by the band's guitarist and songwriter Nightmare Industries. Nuclear Blast.

Shawn Lane Remembered Volume 1 & 2
Volume 1
Alex Masi remembers, "This entity that appeared out of nowhere and almost materialized but not quite... Shawn Lane, one of those mysteries that are made all the more mysterious by their transcendental qualities that place them halfway between dream and reality. Playing guitar for Shawn wasn't necessarily the ultimate goal as much as it was a 'symptom' of his being... somebody said that he could have done great things in pretty much any field he decided to tackle, and I believe that as well... his vast knowledge of so many varied subjects is now the stuff of legends, and it's all true. Sure, he was the supreme beast on the guitar but he was in a category created uniquely for him and never to be accessed again by other players. There will never be another Shawn Lane, just like there will never be another Van Gogh. It wasn't the speed, the choice of notes, the touch, the tone, the vibrato, the fact that he could blaze on the piano, his photographic memory, his superior intellect, his oblique sense of humour, his childlike kindness... it was all these things - plus that elusive quality that placed him in that strange area located halfway between dream and reality." Volume 1 feature contributions from George Bellas, Masi and Goncalo Pereira, among others.

>>>> Umphrey?s McGee - Mantis (2009)
Umphrey's McGee is an American progressive rock/jam band originally from Notre Dame, Indiana, now based in Chicago, Illinois whose music is often referred to as "progressive improvisation."
Though the band's approach to their live performances has much in common with Phish and the Grateful Dead (ever-changing setlists, constant improvisation, two sets per night, open-taping policy), they are much more influenced musically by progressive rock bands such as King Crimson, Yes, Pink Floyd, Dream Theater, Frank Zappa, and Genesis, as well as heavy metal bands such as Iron Maiden. The band also identifies The Police, The Beatles, and Led Zeppelin as primary influences.
