Hey- this is kinda along the line of thought here. I need some advice from people more experienced than I. I haven't posted my pics but trust me when I say I need a LOT of help- both in muscle gain and fat loss. So here's the question- in a twelve week program, is it best to try and do both for twelve weeks, or sixs weeks of building muscle followed by six weeks of burning fat, or vice versa? I've never been able to find a good answer for this oh so important questions a lot of beginers face. Any advice would be appreciated.

I've heard this advice multiple times from a National-level competitor: Strip the fat off first and then concentrate on building the muscle.
Of course lifting will be part of your routine and will help you to lose fat by speeding your metabolism but the focus should be fat loss.
I'm sure there are differing opinions on this but the guy definitely knows his stuff. http://musclememory.com/show.php?s=robert+schuh&g=M

curt james has it right. If you keep lifting and doing aerobics you can build muscle and loose weight at the same time. The betst method for long term fat loss is to try to lose only 2 lbs weekly. Of course if you have a lot to loose and you drastically cut your calories you will loose a lot fast. But this shouldn't be about just dieting, but about life changing. A good book is "Burn the fat, feed the muscle" by Tom Venuto. It is an E-book, he also just came out with a hard copy. The best things to eat are things that you can kill and grow.

Just about the one month mark. I gotta say the worst part of this for me is the cardio....I absolutely hate doing all the sprints but i'm slowly shedding that bf away i dont want to burn it up too fast because i want to minimize muscle loss...I'm already small enough i need to keep all the muscle i have

That was my goal. I had a weekly weigh-in. One week I lost five pounds and so upped my cals. Other weeks I'd do double cardio and get up early and spit for an hour just to hit that two-pound loss for the week. lol
It's psychological to see the two pounds difference every week. Definitely serves as motivation to stay on your meal plan, cardio, workouts, etc.

Your essay is posted here at the end of your 12 weeks or however long you've participated. Simply a recollection or reflection on what the experience meant to you.
It's only 250 words which is next to nothing. Something like...
My participation in the MuscleTech and Bodybuilding.com transformation really sparked my motivation and spurred me to what I consider a great achievement in improving my lifestyle and health during the past 12 weeks.
And on and on.
Something genuine, heartfelt, and I'm thinking with a bit of salespitch flavor at the same time.
I could be wrong.
Anyone else care to share their thoughts on the essay content?

You should have seen me on Wednesday mornings. It was insane to make that two pounds each and every #$%^ing week. But I did it. It's documented in my blogs from August to November of 2007.
I'd check my weight Tuesday night to see where I was and then turn the heat up full blast in the apartment to sweat out/dehydrate over night, wear trashbags to do my cardio, clip my fingernails , uh, anything to get rid of those extra ounces to reach that two-pound mark for "weight" loss. If it was water I didn't care because it was psychological. Really kept my head in the game.
Teeth? I already have a bridge and a few crowns, so...

August 2007 to November 2007 showed me what little muscle I possessed. I cut from 180 or so down to about 150. Looked like a stick, but definitely lowered my body.

Wow! Look at those muscles... It looks like you are on the lead...

I took my before photos last week, but never had a chance to put them up. I was actually pretty hesitant because they are disgusting, but need to start somewhere. I am officially starting my 12 week transformation tomorrow. Wish me luck!

I would suggest only taking Gakic I think the two together would be to much caffeine. But that is just my thoughts on it.

I'm getting in 1.5grams of protein per lb of lean bodyweight and 1gram of fat per lb of lean bodyweight during my keto days so no way am I hungry then of carb days I reverse it getting in 65%fats 30%protein and 5%carbs so no matter what I am pretty full. I do low intensity cardio and weighttraining to burn fat instead of carbs since I don't have carbs in me I would burn muscle easier on hitt cardio. I am thinking of changing to keto with on cheat meal same day last meal everyweek as my loading as oppossed to a whole day of loading due to the fact when I taste those carbs I know ill want to cheat and pump them way up. I will take in 100grams of carbs right after workout on that cheat day then my last meal of the day will be a little more of a loading cheat meal with 65%carbs and 5%fats. Ill add in cardio slowly once the weight loss slows or I could even substitute some of those higher fats to a little more protein but we will see how it goes. So far I am down 12lbs total but my strength is goin up. That could either mean muscle gain or I could have even been undereating before and not recovering enough on the standard bodybuilding diet. I might have even just ben crashing after taking in those higher carbs I thought I needed but must not have. Oh weel we will see as the weeks go. I could just mess myself up but atleast learn how to do it right next year. Ill finish no matter what but I just hope the afters do not look worse than the befores haha

Hey, Beautiful A.--It's good to see you in the contest. Before you get too far along, though, I'd retake your pics. Have someone take them with better lighting. Take a look at last year's winners and try to get the pose, background and lighting so that it could be used for the "winners" publicity.
