Turning 35 in February 09
What's up to everyone I'm new here turning 35 this year and really need to get back to my body. This is the worst shape my body has ever been in. I got married 3 years ago and that was the start of my downfall. Before I got married I was working 2 fulltime jobs and workingout 4 to 5 days a week at home and had a great build. Since then I've let myself slip and can't seem to get motivated anymore. So that's my story and I'm hoping this site helps me get back.

Hello
Changquan here, just looking for ways to supplement my Martial Arts Training now that I am old - pushing 50
I use to train a style called Changquan (Long Fist) I also use to Train Taekwondo and Jujitsu.
I now train real Taijiquan (meaning with Martial arts intact) and have been for 15 years a bit of Sanshou flor about 2 years now and Xingyiquan of and on for 3 years but it could be changing that to Yiquan (dachengquan).
But none of that means anything here I am looking for some good hard training and it looks like there is a lot here for me to learn.

New to site, but not new to working out
I am familiar to working out, but need help getting back into it. I am 44yrs old about 310lbs 6'1. I am ready to get back into working out I have been out of the gym for about 2mos. now. I am going tomorrow starting out with just cardio. Should I do something more I will have roughly 45min to an hour.

Hey Everyone
I have been hovering and gathering info for the last few weeks and I am new here also , Worked out off and on , in and out of shape since I was 20 and let it all go about 4 years ago . ( really regreting that now ) I started by buying Tom Venutos e-book but found some of it lacking in serious info (that was a year ago when I stepped on the scale and it read 250 I am 6'3 man I said enough now I am 6'3 249 and lost 4 inches on my waist ) , I was looking for nutrition advice when I came upon BB.com and what can I say WOW what a treasure trove of info and support that you don't get from anyone that is not looking to get fit .

Un-lurking
I have been lurking for far too long on BB.com.
I will be 35 in March and I have let myself go for a few years now.
I used to (a phrase I use too often) weight train, ju-jitsu, and box.
No more "used to"

Hey all, I am not an expert by no means, remember the gym time is good, however, if your not making the right choices at meal times you are potentially wasting the time you put in the gym. I have always found the gym time is easy, no one tolerates you standing around talking on your cell phone, when it's time to chow, your on your own and that is when it is difficult. You have to be dedicated to yourself!

New to the site
I just stumbled on this site by accident. I was looking for some information on supplements and well, here I am! I am 37 years old and though I used to be in pretty good shape I have let my body get out of control. I am 5'7" and 185lbs. I have started running again, very slowly but hey I am doing it. I have also incorporated sit-ups, push ups and pull ups into my routine. I have no illusions of looking like the guys on the Bowflex commercials but I would like to be toned again. Anyway, there seems to be some great information here and some great people. The transformation pics are INCREDIBLE!! There is alot of discipline being displayed by a large number of you in that thread..awesome. I look forward to becoming an active member of this community and will post some pics of my own in the future.

Thanks for the reminder jkoeppe, that has been a sticking point in the past. I have been holding myself to a much higher standard with nutrition. No more binges or buffets.

Not new to weight loss. Have lost 40+ pounds but still have a ways to go with legs, thighs, and hips. Dieting and aerobics isn't fixing my problem areas so husband and I are getting into lifting weights. I have been reading allot on bb and we got started a few weeks ago. Lifting 3-4 days a week and running 3 days a week. Hopefully this time next year I will be a success story. Thanks for all y'all do.

If in this section there is a specific area, It's possible to move my diary here, as I'm 35?

Another newbie
Been lurking around BB.com for a month or so. Finally decided to participate. Hope you don't mind I snuck in this forum a few months early. (I turn 35 in August)
Basically my motivation is last October I had my 3rd child, (technically my wife did all the hard work ) and I would not only like to be around as long as possible for them and my wife, but set the example by eating right and exercising.

New and want to transform completely
Greetings, Im Tat.
Over 35 and put on roughly 80 lbs in the last 8 years. I hate this body and need to change. I do go to the gym but feel LOST with all the options there. Last year I worked out from August to October doing cardio 1/2 hr a day and lifting nothing else. I lost about 13lbs and started to feel a difference. I also got extremely bored doing the same routine. My workouts started at 5 am and because of work was the only time I was able to go to the gym. Not many classes being held at that hour. I got tennis elbow from the repetition of the tricep/bicep work out and my hands became numb. I took time off until now. Now I joined this site and figured maybe I could find some useful information and options now that my days have been opened up completely.
I do want to lose the weight and Possibly get into competing....I just have no idea how good my chances are.
So I guess I need a new path, and some direction to help get me started.
Sorry for being so long winded!
Warmest Regards!

Hi everybody.
I've been lifting and working out for years but since grad school in the early-mid 90's, weight training had taken a back seat to mountain biking. I'd still lift but I found it hard to give it my best effort when I was putting in 15+ hours a week on the bike.
I bought my wife Wii Fit for Christmas and it really got her motivated to get back in shape. Some of the balance games are fun, a few of the exercises are actually pretty hard. It's not a cure-all for fitness by any means but it got her active again, it got both of us watching what we eat and I got bit by the bug to get big and strong again.
I'm still riding quite a bit. No car for me, I ride a bike to work every day. I also get out and mountain bike but it's more fun, technical skills-based riding than training for cross country racing. I'm eating well and lifitng four days a week. Just from Christams until now, my bench has gone from 185x6 to 225x7. I'm hoping to match my old PR of 225x13. I'm working on my squat and deadlift but I don't know if i'll ever get back to my old 455lb. deadlift of 20 years ago.
Other than that, I like to make wine, read SciFi novels and physics books, cook and spend time with my wife and kids.

Hello all.
I stumbled onto this site a few days ago. I decided to join up and be a part of this community if ya'll will have me. I'm a 39 year old male who is trying to get back into shape. I was active throughout college, but haven't done anything but sit, eat, and smoke for the past 22 years. I stopped smoking last March (2008) and decided to get off my lazy ass and do something. For the past 2 months I have been lifting weights and running. Just checking out the forum, profiles, progress pics, etc has been a huge motivation for me. I look forward to getting to know you all better as time goes on.

Lurker...
Hey Folks,
I've been on BB a long while ( look at my join date ), just reading and lurking
different subjects as they might apply to me.
I promise to lurk no more.
This is a great site, and i look forward to learning more as '09 becomes the year i get serious. I turn 40 this year, and i refuse to settle for a sub par body. I'll get my food logs and exercise logs together and start me a journal,
so feedback and criticism will be welcome!
Thanks to everyone who post their experiences and wisdom.
Ok, time to eat!

Newbie on a mission... literally
Great forum! It's nice to see a section not devoted to the "get huge" crowd. At 42, I'm realistic about what sort of transformation I can accomplish as a beginner. However being deployed to Afghanistan is giving me both the time and motivation to focus my energy on regaining my fitness.
As a medical provider, I have to say that I agree completely with the original post on this thread... I think he hit the points exactly right. Be motivated, be realistic, and be consistent. The benefits to your overall health will far exceed anything you see in the mirror.

Just introducing myself
Hi. I am 41 years old and until 6 months ago, I was as strong as a bullet. One hundred and thirty lbs of mostly long, muscular legs, measuring a nice 21% BF ratio. Unfortunately, due to an improperly healed heel fracture and Achilles' tendonitis, I fell off the wagon and now need help getting back on the wagon. I'm not a newbie, but could use some overcoming my current limitations. I have slowed down my training routine, starting about May last year. Now, I don't even go to the gym anymore- just sad! I held up until about September, even without working out, because I had a clean diet still. However, when I started relaxing that too, and specially when I introduced sugar into my diet, everything starting going downhill, REALLY FAST! I know that due to my age, it will not be easy, but I am getting that body back. I don't want much anyway, so it shouldn't be too hard.
Bliss!

Been in shape, been out of shape, started getting in shape again two years
or so ago, pinched a nerve in my spine, went further out of shape, facing hip
replacement surgery in 2 months, want to get back into some sort of shape
other than the one I am in which is certainly not ship-shape at all!
Hey,
If someone out there wants to be my internet 'kick my azz' partner feel free!
I am 49 yrs old, and need to drop like 55 lbs to be happy (and keep the wife
happy as well). The good thing is I DO like lifting, and I DO like the pump and
I even like the lactic acid pain that happens (am I just weird or what)! So
it won't take much for someone to check in on me occasionally and see how
I am doing. And if you become my 'best shape-up bud' and help me get down
even 20 lbs i'll treat ya to a box of your favorite protein bars as well!
Anyway, hip replacement (both but one at a time) is headed my way. If you
have been there drop me a PM & lemme know how it has gone for you.
Thanks!
Dan
