Ways to go pro?
I am relatively new in keeping up with ametuer shows and was wondering how many shows offer pro cards. I know of the two bigger ones Nationals, and the USA's but wasn't sure how many other shows also offer pro cards. Thanks

You can get 2nd in the overall at the Masters Nationals. You can win the overall at the Team Universe. You can win the dog with one eye class at the Southern States. They give out pro cards as you come in to the auditorium at every fitness/figure show.
In Canada, you can actually get 2nd in your weightclass, not even get compared to the other overall class winners, and still get a pro card. All-time lamest thing I've seen in bodybuilding.
Pro card has lost some of it's exclusiveness since 1999. Used to be hard to get a pro card.

You're right... :P
However that can open a door so that the bodybuilding federation at your country give you "some" support to do other international shows, like "ifbb amateur world cup" or "arnold classic amateur". That may be a path to a future pro card, if you have an amazing physique... who knows. However I don't know what "federation support" in countries like Argentina and others is really... not enough money for the sport.

In aus you have to win the australasian. They have a heavy weight and a light heavy and then a pro card division. weird ey you think whey would jus have the winners of both weight classes pose off for the overall and the pro card rather than having a seperate division.

If you want a pro card, do a national show here in Canada or in France or some place where the turn out is like 9 guys. You're guaranteed a pro card if you're top 10 USA's material.

Some of the pros from the US make u think wtf? like the bantham weight guys walking away with pro cards. Sure they have sterlar physiques but they will never be able to compete at a pro level, rather give out the cards to second place heavyweights. But yeah i do agree, sometimes there seem to be like a battery of international pro cards given out and then othertimes a lot of really good physiques miss out.

As far as yanks saying guys who get their pro cards from other countries make them say WTF...its a simple matter of numbers.
Bodybuilding isnt a mainstream sport, and i think we can all agree that bodybuilding is most popular in the States.
Well for argument's sake lets say 1% of the total population is into bodybuilding...Canada's total population is approx 33 000 000 so thats like 330 000 bodybuilders or bodybuilding enthusiast and out of those less then 1% compete and even less then that have what it takes to make it to the top.
same scenario with the states now...305 000 000 as population, so that would be 3 050 000, etc...these arent accurate numbers as far as # of bodybuilders...but basically you get the point that there's the just a larger talent pool in the states for bodybuilding then almost any other single country. so ya its normal that we only have 7-10 heavyweights at our nationals.
and as far as i know by the rules, the CBBF (Canadian Bodybuilding Fed) gives out 4 cards per year. 2 males (overall winner and 1 class winner) 2 females (overall and a class winner) thats for bodybuilding then they also give out cards for figure and fitness.
none of this 2nd in your class and not get compared bull****.
and there's also im not sure but the North Americans i believe you can earn a card at.

x2, that's why many don't compete here in the US or at any shows "worth" anything... You'll see them in an ad or something with IFBB Pro before their name and you're like WTF, lol.

Anyone who win a countries nationals (if it's tied to the IFBB ofc) can apply for a procard, if I'm not wrong.
This caused some controversy when Swedish Ahmad Ahmad won the swedish nationals, then went on to win the Los Angeles bodybuilding championships, THEN applied for his pro-card, got it, and competed in the Europa Supershow. Some people didn't like this since they as amatures (at the LA) had to compete against a guy who could've been a pro by then if he had applied for this card earlier.

Maybe he just wanted to prove himself worthy... No offense to him, but he's not top 5 material in the IFBB world anyway... Those people upset wouldn't have done **** anyway at the moment. Maybe Ahmad didn't want to feel like he was "stealing" a pro card and wanted to go against the "best of the best" to prove to himself, and the world, that he was ready. He was obviously better then anyone in LA.

You guys are talking smack about this guy....but think back to Dave Henry, mark Dugdale, and a few other guys....DH turned pro at 165ish...Dugdale at 190ish...and ppl were talking **** about them...but look at them now they are doing good. Its not like these guys have to stay at the level they are at when they turn pro...i personally like it when they get pro earlier in their career...so you can see them progress...instead of like just seeing them put on 10lbs in their whole pro career.
