NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! !!!
I dislocated my knee cap/ tore my meniscus today in school. I cannot walk and therefore cannot really lift and have lost nearly all diet motivation as a result. It's really killing me and I need someone to talk to about it.

Dude, now is the time to really buckle down on the diet. Don't give up. Remember, one of the most important factors in fat loss is diet. Even if you can't work out. Isn't there some sort of upper body exercise you can do or are you banned from all of it? If you need to talk hit me up.

Well I can still do upper stuff but I'm recovering from some A/C joint injuries (both sides). I'll use this time to hone in my diet. I'm pretty pissed about the whole thing. Cannot straighten leg or walk. Something similar to this happened LAST football season (Fall 07) and it kinda went away but it popped out every once in a while where I wouldn't be able to walk. This time I think it's worse. My doc (cool guy, funny as hell) said in younger guys the answer to meniscus tears usually isn't therapy, it is surgery. We'll see where this goes with an MRI soon.

I would imagine but don't give it all up. Keep the diet in check, it's the one thing you can do for sure. Then only work the body parts you can. It may be more about damage control than progress but all is not lost ! How frustrating though, felt the same way when I hurt my knee.

I know how that goes, last year I was on a roll and then my gall bladder had to come, a few months later I had my shoulder surgery and then I fell on the ice and landed on the same shoulder. It is discouraging but dont let it get the better of you.
There were several times I got upset and just thought about going back to my old ways but then I looked at pictures and comments my friends had left me on sites like MySpace and here. It always put me in the "it is only a minor set back and things will get better" type of mood.
I am finally getting back on track and have a very good outlook towards what the future holds!

Thanks for your words everyone. I'm gonna take a week or so off from lifting. I want to be able to walk and stuff like that .
No squats/legs, which for my sport are basically the only thing I need to train. Today I'm hopping around the house on one leg staying home from school. I'll try to forcefully extend my leg later. Cutting cals by ~200 and I'll prob lose 5-10lbs of water from creatine b/c I'm not gonna take it this week. Lets see where this goes from here. Might need surgery, Phys Therapy tomorrow.

Just make sure you take it easy. I overdid a few times and I think that might have been one of the reasons I am still in therapy. Unfortunately my overdoing came from the advice from another therapist. I think I was doing some things I shouldnt have been doing that early.
Now I am trying to take it easy and listen to my therapist. I would love to be back lifting the way I was but I know if I do now that it will only prolong the whole thing. I am realistically looking at not getting back to regular lifting until maybe August. In the meantime I can do things but I really need to use my head and not reinjure the darn thing.

I was in the best shape of my life back in May. I was running a mini-marathon and stepped in a pot hole at mile 3. I finished it with a personal best. A few hours later my ankle swelled up and I couldn't walk for a month. It was a severe strain. I am just now getting back to where I was.
$hit happens. You just have to keep working and get back on the horse that threw you.
Good luck.

I have torn both rotator cuffs in the past, I know more than anybody about how having an injury, especially a serious one, can KILL all motivation. Keep teh diet in check adn you will still be doing good. Dont let that part go. Do what you can do that is it. I can say this though, dont worry about strength loss, I started back out benching only 65 pounds, now I am benching 390 as a max. So, dont worry, rest and keeop the diet up especially the protien intake.

Well I did it! Back to the lifting and pretty close to how i left off last monday 10days ago. Most of the weights were the same, I dropped down some on the bench. I felt weaker on some stuff, I have to get myself back to where I was, triceps for example were harder. Alot of stuff was a few less reps than I normally could do.
The best part though is I made it through w/o pain. I am a little concerned about shoulder and back day but I will be very careful when I get to that.
Hit the cardio for 20mins and kept my heart rate up higher than normal. Overall a great workout, it was real nice to get a solid pump and push some weight. Scale weight was higher but I had more liquid in me than normal, I usually go in the gym on an emptier stomach

Not bad, 7 lbs gone since Jan 1st however it's really slowed in the last week. Most of that was lost in the first 10 days. I added back some carbs to about 120 gms a day but think it should be kept back at 80-100. Seems weight loss slows at 120 or more.
Took a few too many days off this month I think.
Have a great weekend everyone !

Hey everyone, dropping by to give a little update... Working right now, but at least it's been nice so far... Mom died last Tues. after a long battle with lung cancer... It's been sad, but I know she was suffering really bad when she was here... On top of that my grandad died of his lung cancer this past Thursday... (He went downhill fast after my mom)... Funny thing about my family is that the non-smoker's live to their 80s and 90s and the smokers end up in their 50s-60s... Good thing I don't smoke I guess...
Diet has been hell this past week as you can imagine... Trying to get back into a routine as best as I can be... Finishing up my last semester at Faulkner right now... Going to classes MWF and working 24hr shifts as an EMT on TThSat and trying to keep my girlfriend happy and cared for don't leave me with too much spare time right now... Been making the gym about twice a week since school started back. I need to get in there more, but it's really hard to find time. The only saving grace is knowing that May is fast approaching and all I will have then will be work and Paramedic school. (Will probably end up moving up to Birmingham with my gf if things keep going the way they are.) Thank god for Anytime Fitness! 24/7/365. If it wasn't for that then there'd be no way I could get to the gym...
About to buckle down on training for a few weeks (plan anyways) and start back on Orange Triad, BCAAs, Storm, and 11-OXO for a little while. I now have health insurance finally so I'm supposed to go see my Doc sometime in the next month to see if we can get Medical Necessity for me to get an Abdominoplasty to get all this excess skin removed... We figured it's anywhere from 15-30lbs of skin hanging... I guess that's what happens when you go from 475 to 255... It could've been a lot worse... I've seen pics of some surgery pts and am glad I lost it naturally!
So I guess all that to say, I'm busy!
Here's the plan I'm going to get back on for my diet... (No more fast food to make me feel better that's for damned sure!)

Sorry about your losses bro, I had 3 family members die in a 5 day period a few years ago, it can be rough as hell. Just keep your head up adn have peace of mind that they no longer suffer adn will be watching you succeed in accomplishing all your goals.

Down another half inch this week, making it a total of 1" off so far this month. And May 9th, my younger brother is getting married and I am the best man. Even more motivation to get my ass in gear(even tho it already is )

Doing good so far. Lost about 4 pounds. I've been making some really good gains in my lifting too.

Hit the gym today, this is only the 2nd time this year doing legs since i got injured. Last time was on 1/1, needles to say it was a tough ass workout, I struggled pushing the weight and my reps were down because of that.
I did get some good cardio in afterwords although my legs were burning like a mofo. The good thing is it was basically pain free, my next and last test will be shoulder/back day.

Damn.. I'm kinda nervous about the results of this MRI/Arthrogram. My therapist said 90% of the time when this happens in young athletes they have to go in and fix it. Depending on how bad it is, full recovery will take from 2-5 months, if not longer. I'm pissed.
Sick back day though. Can't wait till I'm eating for mass and putting up higher numbers. I think tomorrow is gonna be a day off. Maybe some slight ab work. Any suggestions on a new split working around legs?
