Suggestions for protein shake with the world's worst flavoured powder??
Okay ... a friend and I went in on a great deal on protein powder ... unfortunately the only flavour left when we got to the sale was Orange Vanilla swirl ... it smells fantastic ... however *GAG* ... I can't stand the taste of it ...
Anyone have any ideas on a protein shake that might mask the taste of the powder? I want to buy another tub of a different flavour but I know if I don't use this up first, I'm NEVER gonna use it up ...
HELP!!

i always actually felt like gatorate does a great job of killing the taste of bad tasting suppliments, but with protein I usually drink it with milk. Did you give that a go yet?

also I would recommend, just putting it in a blender with half a slice of banana and maybe a full teaspoon of peanut butter. I think that would great.

Depending on your nutrition plan, maybe a banana and some orange juice?
Or you could always mix it with a couple scoops of ice cream.

Oooh I'll try the gatorade ... I didn't think of that ... I tried milk ... YUCK (also trying not to consume a lot of milk).

Hmm ... sounds deliciously like a cheat meal to me ... LOL
The only thing I've found so far that seems to somewhat work is putting it in fat free pudding ... but I'm not a huge pudding fan so it's not like I'd be able to get enough of it that way ... shakes are so fast and easy ... was hoping to find some way to make a shake that could be a grab and go for the gym ...

Okay, I used to manage a smoothie shop so I've been thinking about this and here are the combos I came up with that might help. Not sure if they would mess up your macros so just keep those in mind.
Fix 1:
Mix in with a little orange juice, a tiny but of vanilla extract, and a banana.
Fix 2:
Mix with some pineapple and banana.
Fix 3:
Find a flavor of crystal lite you think it would work with, mix with some of the drink mix and a few drops vanilla extract.
Generally from my experience, banana can over power almost anything and vanilla extract is good at masking flavors too. If you are able to, adding in some vanilla yogurt would help too!
Hope that helps good luck!

Awesome!! Thanks!! I've got a few good ideas ... and you're reading my mind - I just bought some crystal light and figured if nothing else, that might work ...
I'm gonna try the vanilla extract too ... I bet that'll work ... I LOVE vanilla.
I'll try a few of these suggestions and then post results in a few days ...

I buy unflavored whey and then just use the Crystal Light packets. Works for me and tastes quite yummy. I love that I can have a different flavor shake every day.

I would just try orange juice/sunny d
..and if you don't find anything that makes it taste good I'd just buy a new one. I bought one at sam's club and it was nasty and the more I drank it the nastier it got and the less I would have it.. one day I couldn't go home after a workout so I just got one from the shop in my gym and it was fan-freaking-tastic (in comparison)
I just bought that kind and have no problems downing it. Why make yourself suffer..

Well if I could afford to throw my money away I would do that ... but I'm a student and on a pretty limited budget so I can't justify just tossing this stuff ... I'm cheap when I have lots of money ... so I'm extra cost conscious right now.

Aghhh I probably have the same stuff! Body Fortress. It was super cheap, like $35 for 2, 2lb tubs! And claims to have 52 grams of protein for a 2 scoop serving! The chocolate isn't so bad, but the vanilla is disgusting! I usually only bake with vanilla proteins, but this one does not work at all, makes everything so bland!
Orange vanilla swirl..hmm...some good ideas posted already. I'd say OJ, or some kind of orange crystal light and banana.

the results are in :D
Well, I said I'd post the results of my quest ... sooo ...
I played around with a few ideas and here's what I found:
By far, the BEST and fastest fix for the awful tasting powder was simply to add some calorie-free flavour crystals (I used the cheaper no-name stuff). This worked like a CHARM!!! So easy to just toss this stuff in the bottle, shake, and go. AWESOME!!
I also mentioned before that I threw in some fat free pudding mix and made a tolerable pudding with it, but I don't eat much pudding so the one little batch lasted for way too long. Probably not something I'll do again but might work for someone who likes pudding.
Now if you're like me and hesitant to use anything that isn't natural ... or you're just adventurous like me when you get on a mission ... here are a few other things I did that worked out well:
* protein muffins and bread - added some banana and/or cinnamon and voila! Edible, sugar-free, healthy protein bread (really helps with my pastry/bread cravings since I'm not eating bread anymore)
* pancakes - just discovered these tonight while playing with ideas for getting my rolled oats in - I made the most delicious fruit pancakes with rolled oats so decided to add in the protein powder, rolled oats, banana and strawberry ... YUM!!!
* Soy milk smoothies - I just discovered UNSWEETENED soy milk last week and I LOVE it ... so I tried a smoothie with some protein powder and fruit and with the MILK it tasted GREAT!!!
ya ya ... I know there are some ppl that say the protein powder isn't any good if you cook it ... I'm not about to get in a debate about that ... I've done my research and I have my opinion ... let's leave it at that.
Just thought I'd share my experiences!!
Now to play around with the rolled oats!!

I know what you mean, being starving student myself. However I try to put my body first and TRY to budget in healthy/good stuff even though it can be more expensive (grumbles). You could try selling it if you're ever fed up..

LOL ... well they aren't as carb loaded as they sound ... I'm using rolled oats ground into flour rather than bread flour ... no sugar added ... no pancake mix etc ... and the protein powder balances it out quite nicely ... but it TASTES like you're eating bread. I dunno about you but I love the FEEL of eating bread more than the actual taste of it ...
I guess the fruit is probably the worst of it since I'm trying to watch my sugars ... but it's tasty and my protein powder is going down a lot faster than it was before!!!!
I found some unflavoured PP at the bulk food store so I'm gonna buy a bit of that and try it once I finish off this tub of gross stuff
