I'm not saying that on-line or off we should all expose ourselves in a blatant sexual manner (creating offense to some), but all should be reminded that the human body is a work of art and is not obscene. At some point in culture development, the male and female "attributes" became labeled obscene. Understand that bulges, breasts, a penis, or a butt-crack is a natural wonder part of human anatomy...it is not an obscene thing! If you believe you see a guy's penis and balls in their shorts, so what!? It's OK, it is human anatomy; it's OK...it's not obscene.
Similarly, if a bodybuilder shows his glutes (ass) in a pose, should you scream he is being indecent and revealing too much? NO! He is showing the muscle development. Somehow shoving the back of his posing trunks up his crack is OK, but wearing a thong is not. The thong reportedly shows "too much." Too much what...muscle? Folks need to calm down and not be so uptight...it's just the human form! Appreciate it.
I encourage all to be more accepting and realize that the body is not something to be ashamed of...especially when tastefully done. Be proud of your development; and moreover, allow others to be proud too.
In my opinion, male bodybuilders should pose in "string" thongs?.nothing sexual about that, just exposing as much of the body/muscle as possible while also respectfully covering the penis/balls.
Additionally, guys, PLEASE wear clothes that FIT! You workout in the gym to get a good bod, so wear clothes that compliment your body! Too many (including me at rare times) wear crap that is two-sizes too big. Sleeve seams should ride on the shoulder, not mid-arm. Jeans should fit...complimentarily. Shorts should be comfortable, yet not double as a skirt. If you want to wear tight spandex during a workout...do it! Don't be ashamed that your bulge shows or your ass shows too much...be thankful it does! Help set the pace by wearing clothes that enhance your features.
Again, I am not saying that you should dress like a skant or be intentionally sexual, but you should wear clothes that compliment your body...not mask it.
Understand the psychology behind why most wear over-sized clothing; when we were growing-up, Mom would buy us over-sized clothes because we would quickly grow into and out of them. Thus, subconsciously during our impressionable development years we have been "programmed" that wearing over-sized clothes is normal. Now that you are an adult and are not growing dramatically, you need de-program yourself and start wearing clothes that fit your body properly and compliment your features. Don't give the impression that you're ashamed of your body by masking it in drapes of cloth. Wear clothes that compliment your body and enhance the features that you have worked so hard for in the gym!
|
Some people can get away with wearing tight fitting clothes, and some can't. But if you stop to think about it tight fitting clothes are a distraction to most men when looking and talking to a women, and vise versa.
But let?s look at your avatar your wearing white spandex. You can see you penis through it. Now do you really want to go to the gym and have someone spotting you doing your bench press with his penis in your face?
All guys know that the male spotting them has one there we just don't want to see it.
Now if you and your buddies want to go into the locker room and look at each other naked posing and compare sizes go ahead but to me in a gym you need to wear clothes and if you?re comfortable in baggy clothes so be it.

People wear baggy clothes because they don't want everyone staring at them and find it more comfortable.
G strings on men are just homo theres masculine and theres feminine, just like skirts and high heels bodybuilding doesn't give you a ticket out of it.

I will agree with you even though your wearing speedos.
But in the end everybody has an opion of their own.

Insecure
I think folks need to pay closer attention to the word-choices I used when I wrote the piece. Pleased re-read it.
It boils-down to, everyone should wear whatever they (not you) feel comfortable in, and you should not judge them.
If you do, you may be insecure and/or brainwashed by your life-long environment to judge what is appropriate or not.
If you work hard in the gym, you should be PROUD of your body and wear clothes that compliment it, not mask it.

Arnold had a quote that I feel pertains to this issue... Although I can't remember it exactly, I'll recount it was well as I can. He suggested that someone in a BMW feels the need to drive fast to keep up with true race cars, while someone in a very high end car is comfortable cruising in the slow lane, because everyone knows they are choosing to do so, but could very well outstrip every car around them.
I feel this can be related to people and their insecurities... someone insecure about their build feels the need to wear 'flattering', tight fitting clothes to try to show off, while someone comfortable about themselves could care less and realizes it's a non issue in the first place. They don't need the reassurance of looking at themselves in the mirror while they workout to feel good, nor do they feel the need to prove themselves to everyone else in the gym.

I agree to a point, and although i cant remember whether or not you said you wore those pants to the gym or not, I certainly hope you don't.
You are in great shape and have a body most people want, but that doesn't mean we want to see all aspects of your body in the gym if you get my drift!
I mean no disrespect, but 99% of the people in gym don't want to see someones Cock through there Super tight Spandex.
Again i couldnt remember if you said you wore them to work out in or not and couldn't be bothered to search for that post.

It's a free country...wear whatever the hell you want! (Especially if you look as good as AustinGemini
But if you're wearing something that you have no business wearing given your body type/condition, know that people will probably talk crap about you.

Maybe it's just my performance background (among other things, *ahem*...), but nothing really bothers me about a man wearing spandex or any other form-fitting fabric. Function over fashion, people!

All I?m saying is I just hope no will listen to you and start wearing spandex to work out in or tight fighting clothes. I don't want to see a camel toe, a cock, or a hairy butt while I?m trying to get my bulk on. That?s just nasty!
Could you imagine you getting ready to get on a piece of equipment and some fat hairy guy just sat on it butt naked sweating everywhere with his balls just dangling. Nasty!
Yes I did read your post but dressing like a slut has its time and place and the gym is not it for anybody.

Next time I go to the gym I'm going to wear my combat boots, tighty whiteys and drape my upper body in a shelter half. Yeah.... that'll be damn sexy but short lived. They'll kick me out thinking that I'm hobo....

I miss the old days.
I wish you could still buy coffee brown posing trunks with 4" sides Like Arnold wore. Enough with the Florescent colored posing trunks.
I could care less if someone has a striated ass , Did Arnold or any of the other legends of the past have them? we will never know , but they did have awesome physique's built with minimal steroid use at best compared to what the Pro's are taking these days.
As far as at the gym is concerned too much skin shown is a distraction.

im sure many have the same opinion as me, if your in a competition and want to show your muscle development then ofc thats totaly fine, however if your the women at my gym who must be 60+ with the most disgusting legs (imagine legs that are 100% varicose veins and so look like a mixture of mash potatoe, spaghetti and rocks wrapped in sausage skins) that make you physically repulsed, with shorts that do show her glutes then id say no, thats not acceptable. ofc i realise its something that some people cant help, but the gym isnt a BB contest.

I would say "no" to this
You (the original poster) have a very idealistic view on the world. I personally think you are missing out on the fact you may have an arrogant view. You bust your ass in the gym because it is a lifestyle you have chosen, one that you subscribe to. I am not knocking it, it is a positive thing... for you. However, the slightly overwieght gentleman walking through the mall on his way to the eatery busted his own ass, not in the gym, but at the University of Michigan getting a Masters in bio-medical engineering for the past 6 years.
But you most likely won't see him complaining when he disagrees with a certain type of prosthetic limb when he see's one. He probably doesn't go to the pet store and complain that the would-be pet rats are not kept in a sterile environment just because he has been conditioned to prefer it that way.
What I am saying is not to be a zealot. Just because you think the obvious outline of a jimmy and his two round friends is Gods' work of art, does not mean everyone wants to see it.
Congrats on seeing it objectively, but social norms and etiquett are not privvy to the afore mentioned objectivism. Not everyone in the gym and outside the gym care to think about "OPP" when they are trying to work on their own bodies.

I do agree with your post, but do you honestly believe that working hard on one aspect of your life is a valid excuse for living and eating like a slob? And OP doesn't need spandex, he needs to bring his quads up over 28" to get the same effect.

I have a guy at the gym he wears mini shorts and I hate it. He stretches right in front of me during my set. There's not much place in the gym and looking at his ugly balls ruins my workout. If that makes me insecure whatever, to me its inappropriate clothing.

I think it's funny that I saw this when today a guy came in to my work wearing extremely tight jeans, you could see the outline of his cock going down his thighs. They were so tight, his cock couldn't move.
You could see everything, balls etc etc.
I don't find it offensive, but it was funny. Funny and gross. He wears jeans like that every single day.
I find it sad that this 40something year old guy has to show his package to the world all the time, but maybe that's the only good thing he has to show for himself.
