Do spray tan to get a little the weeks before to get a base and then use Jan Tana (probably 4 coats) and you will be plenty dark.
Good Luck

I am very pale and do not tan well at all, I used 2 coats of JanTana and it looked perfect! It's really easy to apply too

Spray tan or protan. I've seen Jan Tana turn green on some people.

There are Pro Tan, JanTana, and Dream Tan
All work really well, but after having my tan does by JanTana - wow! I will never do it another way.

The reason for the green is because the competitiors put on deodorant or lotion which messes w/ the skins PH balance thus turns it green.

Jan Tana--- Hands Down is the best!!! Very important to prep skin through exfoliation & moisturizing.
Turning green also happens when competitors are using diuretics. They screw up your bodies pH balance.

I use 2 coats of pro tan and one of dream tan. Will be trying Jan Tana for the next contest just to see the difference. I also tan in a tanning bed about 5 times before a contest.

Jan Tana changed her formula in 2006 but the new formula is ONLY sold on her site. If you get it from another place like bb.com's store you will get the old formula which had more of a tendency to turn green. Pro Tan turns green more often than any other products. Jana Tana is the ONLY way to go!!

Great information on tanning products! I was also needing that advice! Good question and turning green would completely suck!

Pro Tan is the better choice. Best selling competiton color for over 24 years.
This product will not turn green nor will it make you look like you are covered in make up..
Good Luck...

Momo325,
what type of spray tan are you suggesting? The reason I ask is that I just tried Planet Tan's versa spa spray tan last night, I hardly got any color at all! Now, it was my first time and maybe I didn't prep right or something, though I did what they told me, maybe I exfoliated too well lol! I also went with their medium bronze just to see...but they only have one more step up in color...
I think the tanning is the part I am most worried about!

Thats kind of spray tan will not get you dark enough. All you need is a couple bottles of Pro Tan(r) competition color. Apply three to four coats evenly and you will look perfect. If you would like more specific information send me a message.
We use our products on every major bodybuilder and tanned every major athlete at the 2008 Mr Olympia.

That might be the case for Bodybuilders but I will say the majority of the fitness and figure pros use Jan Tana. I think MoMo was telling her to use the spray tan to get a little bit of a base color instead of a tanning bed before using her competition color.
I've had more friend use pro tan and turn green then try jan tana and not have any problems.

The reason people turn green is not due to the product, but the use of deoderant soaps. We have tanned countless fitness and figure athletes and most swear by our products.
What makes our product unique is that it is not a makeup but a self tanning formula. This means it causes your body to tan its self. The human body never tans itself green it is usually only a reaction to lotions and or aluminum oxide that is contained in some deoderant soaps.
We do not count on a makeup effect for the tanning which can lead to an unnatural color and or tendency to cover your cuts and or definition. Both are great products but neither superior to the other all personal preference and it comes to down to proper body preperation.
