I won't give you advice as an "experienced lifter," but as someone who used GVT for 60 days, I love it. The first week was kind of frusterating trying to really figure out a good starting weight, but once you're moving along in a pattern you see amazing gains, or at least I did. Best of luck, this was the key to my progress with squats, as well as with shoulders (dumbell military press)

-A man that can bench press three times his weight, yet squat less than one cannot call himself a 'Strongman.' Similarly, he who can squat the weight of a grown bull but cannot sprint across the street without an oxygen tank cannot call himself strong, much less a 'Strongman.' It is the combination of upper-, lower-, and windwork, the complete package, that when put together creates the 'Strongman.'
