Does the way you chew your food affect your weight?
Hello,
I'm new to the forum, I've done a bit of lurking and searching on this matter and haven't found much.
My question is this. Does the way you chew your food affect your weight? I ask because I'm currently overweight. I'm 26 years old 6'2 and I weigh 330 lbs. at about 18-20% total body fat. My goal is to look better then I was when I was working out profusely a few years ago. I don't have pics but I was at 275 lbs. at 13 % body fat. I'd like to be at 260 @ 9% or better. It won't be easy for me because I have an Endomorphic body type, but that's why I'm here.
I typically eat my food very, quickly (those close to me say I shovel food into my mouth as if I think someone will come by and steal it, lol). I know what I eat has a huge impact on your metabolism, and weight gain/loss.
I've been told that the way I chew also contributes to my weight gain. Is there truth to this?
Thanks in advance guys.

a calorie is a calorie no matter how you ingest it, but if you chew slower than maybe you will be able to judge when you are full better, therefore perhaps eating less. Also not chewing enough is harder on your stomach and will cause digestive issues and you likely swallow more air which causes gas and bloat.
So to answer, it might contribute to you eating more.

To be honest I was thinking about this question earlier lol.
I dont think it really has a direct effect on your weight, but I think that if you eat your food slower your body will tell you when its full, therefore you should stop eating (whereas its the other way round if you shovel your food in, resulting in binge eating after the meal).
I also think that if your doing something else whilst eating (watching tv, etc) you will not be concentrating on your food, therefore wanting to binge eat after the meal again.

Is this a joke? Please explain just how you think it is possible for the speed that you chew food to have any impact on fat loss in any tangible way other than giving your mind time to feel full and stopping you from eating more food.

Nope just curious. Over the course of years some people have mentioned it to me and I've never bothered to give the notion a second thought until now. This is probably the best place to clear the air on it.

have a horrible time believing that you were 13% @ 275. I would estimate that at 330 (unless have a dickload of muscle mass on your body) that you are closer to 30-40% bodyfat.
20% at 330 means you have 264 lbs of lean mass. No freaking way.

Lol. It's all good man. It's extremely hard to offend me. Besides people who don't know much are usually the first to make snide inconsequential nonconstructive remarks.
I need to have a new analysis done soon anyway.

soulsultan, as everyone has said there probable is no correlation to how fast you eat vs. weight loss. However, if you shoveling in your food then more then likely you are over eating and also not enjoying the taste fo the food.
