Loose Ligaments in Shoulder

After my first competition I started decreasing my intake of all the supplements I was taking and that's when I starting feeling terrible pain on the top of my shoulder. After a little while, the pain started getting a little worse so I went to the doctor to get it checked out. He said my shoulder is looser than most peoples. I did some rehab exercises for a while. It was still hurting after 2 months of no upper body workouts, so I got an MRI. Nothing was torn but the doctor said I had two options: stop doing things that irritate my shoulder or get surgery to tighten up the ligaments. The pain is not as bad as it was but there is still a very noticable pain when my arm is in a certain position.

Any comments or suggestions would be great. I really would like to do another competition but right now I do not know what my next move should be.
