Again, thank you, but... that's most definitely not right. My lean body mass is 104, which means my maintenance would only be 1248. That equation may work for you but it definitly won't work for everyone. There's no way me being at 142pds needs only 1248cal a day to function and maintain my weight. Back to the drawing board then...

SCT,
What are the changes in one's physique that would be seen doing a keto diet versus a program specifically designed for contest prep? Don't they both lean you out while maintaining as much muscle as possible?
Also, can you give me the name of a few good programs that are geared towards contest prep? I value your opinion.
Thanks in advance!

My maintenance caloric intake is 1300 calories/day. I was going to reduce that by 500, which leaves me with 800 calories/day but that seems so low. I don't see how only 800 calories is going to satiate me. Or is it pretty much standard that you are hungry most of the time?
My protein intake is at 114 g, which is 1g/lb. This would be 55% of my daily calories. Then if I leave 5% for carbs, this leaves 40% for fat. Sound about right?
I'm on a four day split, combined with HIIT cardio for 20-25 minutes, 5 days per week.
Thanks for your time!

Go for 1g of protein per pound of LBM... Total the protein calories and divide it by 30% (0.3) to get your calorie intake for keto..
Example:
Total weight = 180 lb
LBM = 140
Protein intake = (140g * 4)/0.3 = total calorie intake for Keto
Take the total and consume 30% of calories as a protein, 65% as fat and 5% as carbs..
Cheers

Thanks... I was just thinking about doing a new calculation in a possible attempt to try keto again.
160 * 4 / 0.3 = 2133 (total calorie intake for Keto)
2133 * .3 = 640 calories of protein
2133 * .65 = 1386 calories of fat
2133 *.05 = 107 calories of carbs
Now I just need to convert that into a daily diet.
I normally eat beef or chicken every day. Pretty bland diet that consists of the meat, some spices, and that is about it. Well, there is my morning coffee with some cream.
I picked up some 80% lean beef on my way home, and cooked it up for tomorrow. However.... 10 servings if probably what I would need to be full, and that would put me 700 calories over the 2133. Looks like I could have stayed with the 95% lean, and just added some fat during the day

I'm setting up my meal plan for when I start my keto at the end of the month. I'm having trouble keeping my protein in check while still raising my fat intake. What things can add fat but not so much protein? I have added in some things like olives and Mayo but need more ideas.
Thanks!

Booze
Ok, so I know someone wants to mention this... what about alcohol? Vodka and gin have 0 carbs. I understand that they still have calories but the holidays are here and it would be nice to enjoy a drink with friends. Is there any harm in this?

I'm not the OP but I had this question too so I googled it yesterday. From what I've read as long as you can afford the calories liquor is fine and so is wine. Beer however, big no no from what I'm seeing

Don't forget about olive oil. You're looking at about 14 g fat per serving. It pretty much goes on everything. Except eggs- yuck.

Most real cheese is extremely low in carbs, usually less than 1 gram per serving, milk on the other hand has sugar, which is a carb, it normally runs around 12-14 carbs per 8oz serving.
Processed cheese and cheese sauces have a much higher carb count, ones such as Velveeta, nacho cheese sauce and the like.....
Most cheddar, colby, mozzarella, American, MJ, (hard cheeses) have virtually no carbs....almost all of these are less than 1 gram.....

The answer is no.....It will not hurt you in any way.....
I too asked, but I asked because when I actually counted my macros from my previous eating, I was consuming an average of 900 carbs a freaking day....(no wonder I am fat huh?) andyhow...I was scared I was going to go into some kind of shock or something, because 900 carbs every single day to less than 25 was quite dramatic. But I assure you, there is no change, except automatically feeling less bloated .... yes the very first day!
In 3-5 days will feel sluggish and what not, do not let it deter you from continuing though....it gets MUCH better, I promise!
It can take weeks for your body to become fully fat adapted, but by day 10 most people feel the energy rush difference! I know I did...day 9 I believe! Good luck to you!

mygame11, thanks for reassurances.
I another question,
I started my keto today with 2 eggs + 2 1/3 bacon + 1 cheese for breakfast, went to the gym for 40 minutes jog. During this time, does my body takes fat as energy fuel?

I dont think so. Your body first finishes the carbs that still in your body. You dont get in KETO from the first second.
Or do I misunderstand your question?

Alright so even tho my total intake is 65% fat / 30% protein / 5% carb, every meal will have tiny bit of carbs, so my body use that first then the fat calories after?
I read somewhere you be offically in keto status in 2 days. (not sure)
What the product name of keto test at food markets?

Oh no...it will take a short while for you to actually start burning fat for energy. Your body must become fat adapted first. You will experience the sluggish feeling like crap mode for a few days, when that is over your body is starting to utilize the fat and burn it for energy.
The first few days of Keto is good however to workout a good bit (I mean a little more than normal)...cardio is great...it will help "push" the carbs, caffeine etc through your body and help you to enter Ketosis easier and sooner. The more you exercise the better!

No no, your body will work on fat. But now you still have enough glycones (i hope i wrote is correct ) in yuor body. And your working on it now. In a few days your body will used all of it and it will turn to the fat. In this time you will feel like crap like mygame11 said.

Thanks for reply guys, here another question. Does all my 6 meals must have decent amount of fat in them to stay in ketosis? My 4th meal consist of chicken fried in olive oil + broccoli.

From what I have learned, when you do a carb up you want to eat very very low fat and you want your carbs to be complex carbs...healthy carbs limit the simple sugary carbs...
Most people when they do a carb up they swap their macros....5% fat 65% carbs...
Hope it helps.

thanks, but maybe i should've clarified.. im not trying to "carb up" tonight. that won't be until the weekend. for the most part i'm just trying to stay in ketosis, although it might be impossible with my heavy carb dinner tonight.
im just trying to see, with the situation im going to be in, what would be the ideal lunch to consume.
