over the summer I used HIIT in the form of sprinting to accelerate fat loss. I was cutting, so my diet was strict. The results were very good however and I maintained most of my muscle mass. If you just want to tone, then try sprinting 100-200m, then walking 200m. Do this for about 30-40 minutes. I think about 3 or 4 days a week should suffice.
It works well whether you are cutting, maintaing, or even bulking. Enjoy.
