Use of Protein while Cutting
So I am now taking 3 protein shakes a day which equals 1500 calories. My food intake is also 1500 calories between 3 meals. That is around 3000 calories and that is far to much for what im trying to do. Should I just take 2 protein shakes a day? I have been doing really well with just eating right but sometimes i find myself cheating because I want food in between meals. Im supposed to be around 2500 Calories a day according to what i weigh. I work out in the morning (all cardio), again at night (more cardio), then I go and work out in the gym. So give me some advice.

0 shakes. you need to be eating a lean protein source every meal with a potato and/or green vegetable as a side. try to eat about 6 meals a day if possible.

I'm working on a cut right now, I take in one protein shake (1 Scoop, 1/2 casein, 1/2 regular whey) as soon as I wake-up, one right before my workout (1.5 scoops straight whey) and one right before bed (1/2 scoop casein). I don't like supplementing this much protein but it's the best delivery method for these times of the day. Remember protein is a supplement, it should be used to supplement when whole food is not available.

at his size, 3000 cal/day is likely under his BMR...if he switched to an isolate, he'd be under 2000 cal/day and likely lose muscle
I suggest increasing your food intake and keeping the whey for pre/post WO only

No its 120 calories per scoop, but i take 3 scoops at a time 3 times a day, each with skim milk. So it all adds up to about 1500 calories. Maybe I should just take 1 scoop per shake. I was just trying to do one gram per pound. Also I have not done 3 in a day yet. I was just planning on doing it that way. Instead maybe i will just do 2 scoops per shake and 2 shakes a day. One in between lunch and dinner, and one after my night workout. Is that better.

Hmm. Maybe cutting down to two scoops in cold water instead of milk will help considerably.
Milk contains a lot of simple sugars therefore a lot of calories.

Well
I use ON's Whey probably 3 shakes a day on my cut, and have not had an issue. Pre workout Shake, post lifting working Shake with an egg in it, sometimes 2 just depends. I dont eat meat so getting Protein is hard for me. I can eat omlets sometimes but the best way for me is to just add an egg to my shakes. I dont do this everyday, I have droped over 100 pounds having these shakes everyday sometimes more than 3. But my shakes dont have 500+ calories typically haha. Just wanted to add my 1 cent to the topic, If I did eat meats though I would substitute the shakes at least 2 of them with lean good healthy meats.

yea i only eat shakes preWO and postWO...easy to transport and keep...I only drink em with water
although, being on keto...if you're running out of foods to eat...mix 1 scoop whey with 6tbs Heavy Cream....tastes exactly like Cake Batter
30g Fat, 0g Carb, 25g Protein...great little 500 cal meal

I would take this protein with water but it is unbearable, so I use skim milk. I have lost 60 lbs already but just recently started actually counting calories and taking protein. I am taking the EAS 100 percent whey protein by the way.

I'm cutting in Iraq as well. I am doing int the wrong way though. I've cut my caloric intake to around 2000 or less. I recommend using something other than just whey. With just whey I lose everything with the weight, the syntha-6 and muscle milks also taste better and help a bit with keeping the muscle around. Glutamine is the nectar of the gods too as far as I'm concerned.

I take in around 3 shakes a day and eat another 3x's lean protein. Ive been doing this for over 10months and have lost over 80lbs. So you can cut while drinking shakes. just cut the calories by not using milk. Also how many grams are in 3 scoops? That may be too many grams and you could possibly be storing it as fat.

Also make sure the vegetables you eat are fresh, not canned. Canned vegetables contain alot of stuff you really do not need such as salt, and in the end don't really work well with diets.

There are 23 grams of Protein per scoop. I wish i could use water but its to nasty. Im just going to stop drinking 3 and only drink 2 with 2 scoops in it. And add fruit as my snacks. Also i dont know if the vegatables are canned or fresh out here. Im thinking canned.

I also hate the taste of protein with straight up water, one thing I tried though, is just putting in less water then suggested on the packaging. I'm using ON whey right now, and that has helped with the flavor issue.

The only reason i originally put 1500 Calories was becasue I was planning on taking 3 scoops per shake 3 times a day with skim milk which equals that. 120 cals per scoop times 3 = 360 plus 80 for skim milk= 440. Then 440 times 3 is 1320. So now i pretty much am going to cut those numbers in half by only taking 2 scoops per shake and taking it twice a day. So now im looking at 640 calories in protein shakes a day until I find a protein I can drink with water.
Thanks for everyones advice and help on this topic.

Try ON casein protein with water and a tsp of instant coffee (if you like coffee). It's perfect for times when you don't have time for a piece of chicken or fish.

What i've done is mix half milk and half water with my protein. It's not much but the flavor is definitley better and you cut your calories in half

I do 1 scoop whey pre 1 scoop whey post
then I do 2 scoops of casein powder at night
is that alright? I am getting a bit more than my body weight a day so a little under half of the protein source is powder.
