Feedback Request
I'm in the process of brain storming some ideas for a new DVD. DRIVEN was my first shot at producing a "training" DVD and had a bit of a lifestyle angle to it. A Week in the Dungeon was pretty much all about Dorian kicking my ass. BEYOND DRIVEN (just released) is much more entertainment/reality focused as it looks at the physical and emotional hardships of competing at the professional level.
Joel Barham and I are thinking about making the next DVD with a NUTRITION focus. Sure it will most likely have a bit of training, but more like Food Network meets A Week in the Dungeon with several cooking segments. My question to all of you is what would YOU want to see in a nutrition DVD? We were thinking about some food preparation segments on how to generally eat healthy to gain muscle and eliminate fat for the everyday, active, family-on-the-go; as well as more in-depth, pre-contest diet information based on what I do to get in shape for competition.
I'm hoping if this subject is of interest to anyone that you can let me know specifically what you would like to see... YOU are after all my customer. I don't have much time to frequent bodybuilding forums, so if you could email your suggestions to markdugdale@markdugdale.com I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks and train hard!

The struggles of making your meals everyday, and do everything else in the mean time would be nice, eve nthough a lot of bodybuilders go through it, but a lot of amatuer lifters dont realize it until they are in the real world.

Some good healthy on the go meals, quick lunchs, stuff like that. Its always a challenge making healthy lunchs for work what what not. Maybe a quick and painless good carbs and such.
And im not talking like cereal, protein bars, etc.

I think its a really good idea. There really needs to be more videos that concentrate on diet rather than seeing a 260 pound dude bench 5 plates. However saying that, I think it may take away from some of the marketing scheme, as many fans like to see the actual lifts and big guys displaying thier massive physiques, as it is more appealing to the viewer, or more entertaining. But thats just from a marketing stand point.
One thing im not sure that will work. You say that you want to attract the everyday, active, family-on-the go viewers. Well, i dont really know who the majority of your viewers are, but I would think your vids would be more geared towards intermideate to advanced trainers. I mean its a good idea, but it may be confusing to the viewer; you are telling one "regular, everyday" person, fat reducing tips, while on the other hand, you are telling the more advanced trainer on a bulk diet to be consuming 6000 or more calories a day.
My thoughts are, I would not try to make it to complicated and stick to what YOU are doing at the while shooting your film and show us your training, diet, meal planning for the week/day and give us insight into the future when you plan to cut (if you are bulking now). If you wanted to reach out to the viewers, you could bridge over from your lifestyle to thier lifestyle, explaining that different approaches should be taken for viewers as they are not at your level. And look into what has worked well for you and what has not, emphazising that people need to be able to assess training and diet. Maybe the differences of cut vs. bulk diets, etc. But overall, I dont think you should venture to far off from what you do, as people want to see how Mark Dugdale gets big and ripped.

Early Morning Training
Hey there. Not sure if you're still checking in on this... or maybe you've already started or finished the film! I have no idea. But I was thinking about your posed question and I think it would be awesome to hear a little something about the difference in early morning nutrition for those who train FIRST THING in the morning. For instance: If I am awake and at the gym 30 minutes later, what should I be eating upon waking so as to completely maximize my results? There's only so much you can stuff down your throat 5 minutes after waking up. (And no - waking up a FULL HOUR earlier is not an option!!)
I don't know. Think about it. Hope your week is going well.

i dont know about idea, but i dont like videos where
- grunting is too loud
- someone is talking and he is too silent or low quality
- when someone is just training and you watch him train - thats boring
i like when:
+movie have certain "plot" like in pumping iron
+ when movie have some interesting things for example few guys runing to see who is faster, or bodybuilder going to top of mountain with bicycle and resting there
+ when movie have naration and nice music in background while someone is training (not just whole training but some clips from it)
+when you can actualy hear what someone is talking and understand it without sitting on end of your seat trying to distinguish "wtf he just said?"

Ok, here is the first 10 minutes of this movie I was thinking of:
"I wake up. Still feeling the pump in my legs from yesterdays leg workout. Can barely walk. But this is bodybuilding, this is my typical day. It is what it is, no way around it. I almost start crying when I start to drag myself to the toilet when my legs buckle under me. Today I will work chest. But it's not in my mind, what is in my mind this morning is pure survival. But atleast I'll have a good breakfast to give my muscles the fuel they so desperately need. Heavy training requires some heavy fuel. The heavy fuel this morning will be raw eggs, oatmeal and chicken. You read that right. I'll have the best triple combo imaginable in the same sitting, because my muscles deserve it. But that is not it. My muscles wouldn't grow properly without Animal(c) supplements. This is what I think gives me the edge over everyone else. I start to stuff food into my mouth after the thought of going catabolic rushed into my mind. Breakfast in itself even can be a workout. My shoulders, jaw and forearms fatigue when I keep craming my stomach full of delicious nutrients. But this is what makes me, me. I love it. I love being me. I love being a bodybuilder."
