Is Centrum a good multi?
So yeah, I'm broke. I just ran out of Animal Pak and I was wondering if taking centrum is OK for a replacement until I get money. Is it any good compared to the Pak?

there are significant differences in the overall quality, nutrient amounts and forms.
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showpo...81&postcount=5
Will these differences materialize into different results at the end of the day? Debateable, but probably not significantly. You do what you gotta do.

Supplements
I think you taking any supplements no matter what the brand is beneficial. I have been doing some resereach myself on the better ones and have noticed some godo things on Twinlab Dualtakbe Mega Vitamin which is a sustained release bilayer mega vitamin and mineral formula. Each tablet is composed of two separated layers. One contains fat soluble vitamins and sustained release, water soluble vitamins. The other layer contains rapid release minerals and digestive aids. This prevents the interaction of incompatible vitamins and minerals for maximum stability and quality

Dont you need larger doses if you are not a non-physically active person? I know that centrum can be good for my mom, but for me? I dont know. You think that we have the same daily vitamin needs? If there is no money to buy other supplements then logically a sup like centrum will definately be the best way to go.

I take Kroger brand multis. $8 for 200 or 250 caps. I forget.
I can't tell a damn bit of difference compared to the more expensive brands.

Orange Triad is my personal favorite. It also has joint support in there too along with all the essential vitamins. Kill two birds with one stone..

i guarantee no one here has felt a difference in a multivitamin. you may feel different becuase of added herbs and goodies, but not the multi.
they are completely unnecessary anyway as long as you have a somewhat healthy diet.

Centrum is terrible because its compressed to hard to fully dissolve. There have been numerous studies showing this extremely hard press tabs just end up in the sewer system.
Personally I think anti-oxidants are better for health as most people dont consume a ton of expensive fruit but to each his own.

I don't think the multi you take will make a huge difference, if you're take a one a day formula that's low dosed that is fine. I been hearing for an athlete you need a good supply of B-Vitamins. I use a multi by Weil (one a day), it's decent I just add in 50mg B-Complex and take 1 in the AM and 1 late afternoon. I also take 1000mg of Natrol Easy C, 1 Vitamin E, 1 Vitamin D, Fish and Flax. Good to go.

Meant to take more if you are active in physical activity. But i still only take them once a day, you get more from your food the rest of the day anyway. And any multi is better than none.

Dinoiii's thread is worth the read but don't take it as fact.
I wouldn't bother with Centrum or these bargain multis. At best the aforementioned ones will do nothing, at worst they will create deficiencies that down the road could possibly lead to or expedite diseased states. How likely is the latter to occur is unknown; may have no correlation at all. But if you are going to take the time to supplement a multi you might as well do it correctly or to the best of your abilities.
The bb.com store does carry an array of multis of which I would recommend the following. Either at 2 caps per day provide decent amounts and they tend to contain more bioavailable forms in addition to being fairly well balanced. Cost is roughly $11-12/month which shouldn't be too expensive.

I recommend getting NOW Adam. Has a lot of vitamins and other extras, most are over 100%dv and you can get 2 months for $18.

centrum isn't one of the strongest multi's in my opinion, i used it in the past and didn't like it much, depends on the person and lifestyle i guess, a stronger multi would be better for the more active stressed out person.

a good multi will have minerals in either chelated form or at least bonded to an organic acid.
Multis with minerals in inorganic form (i.e. including magnesium/zinc oxide or sulphate, chromium chloride, etc etc) are a waste of time and money because not only are some of those compounds barely absorbed, some are completely insoluble and will not be absorbed at ALL! (For example calcium as calcium carbonate is simply CHALK! And many multi formulas include it as calcium source. It is obvious that youre not absorbing that any time soon)
Centrum is therefore extremely poor because it has minerals in inorganic form last time i checked.
