Just wanted to chime in and say what an inspiration this thread has been for me. I look forward to posting my before and after pics within a year, but until then, I'll keep coming back to pick up my spirits.

New to the Forum
Hi everyone! My name is Shawn Tan and I am new on this forum!
I love this thread because like so many people I was unhappy with myself both physically and on an emotional level.
I am now a national level competitive bodybuilder and traveled a long road to get here. My starting point was @ 320lbs and a plus size 29/30. I lost my fat and toned myself, finding myself sitting around 167lbs when reaching my ORIGINAL goal. However, this only inspired me to do more...to be more...to be better!
I proceeded to alter my training and nutrition towards focusing on gaining more muscle and I now compete on stage @ approx. 185 - 190lbs. (I am weighing around this in my after picture that I am posting)
I am posting my before and after pix in hopes to add to all of the inspiration here. Also, if you have any questions for me, I would love to help anyone with there goals the best that I can.
Congrats to everyone for being here and working toward your goals that you CAN and WILL obtain!
Nice to meet you lol

Thank you! Thank you!
Well I dropped down to the 167ish mark in about 11 months. From there it has been an ongoing process of building, re shaping for symetry ect. Now I think it will take till I no longer can work out because there is always another goal, another level that I strive to reach.
Can't wait to see you pix and stay strong! Trust me, it wasn't all smooth sailing for me and I found that if I messed up, I was best not to beat myself up over it. I would force my mind to let it go and move forward...what is done, is done.

You are right, anyone can do this! We all have our lazy days, or our cheats etc. but I know for me all too often I would allow one mess up to spiral me down hill for the rest of the day-or longer! One chocolate, well, I blew it, I may as well eat the entire box! Missed my workout, hmmm, I feel like crap now so I would go eat pizza! It was a crazy way of thinking.
Just stay focus and fully know, be aware and except that it IS going to take a while!
Good luck to those of you pushing towards your goals and congrats to the others

WOW!!! Another big girl who have overcame this hurdle. I'm at about 303lbs right now. Was down to 268, but oddly, I can still wear the same clothes as I was wearing then..now. So i'm guess I've added some muscle on my frame but was able to maintain the fat loss. My highest weight was about 330lbs. I'm striving to accomplish the same thing as you. I want to get down and then pack on some major muscle. Your physique is amazing considering where you were in the past. How were you eating to drop half your weight in 11 months? What did your workout consists of during that time?
Congrats. You look really good and its good to see a woman on this thread lose some major weight. Thanks for the inspiration!

Hey guys how you doing? I am new to the forums here. My friend recently told me about this place so I decided to give it a try. I thought my first post should be in here.
I have always been fat my entire life. I once said to myself I would never let my body reach 300 lbs. Well on October 9th, 2005 I stepped on the scale and I was 292 lbs. I was sick of it and I couldn't stand it. So I worked at it and I worked at it and within one year I lost 113 lbs. By October 9th, 2006 I weighed 179 lbs. No diet pills, no gym membership, no personal trainer, just raw determination and dedication to turn my life around. Over the next two years I have been on and off working out. I got back up to 205 from being lazy and I decided to start again. I eventually ended up losing 20 lbs in a month. I am currently weighing in at 177. I have recorded everything I have eaten over the last 3 years. Let me know what you guys think of my transformation. Thanks and it's a pleasure to be a part of these forums.

Hi! Yep, if we can...you can! I cannot preach this enough. I always tell my clients: "Bottom line, How bad do yo uwant it?"
Do you mind me asking why you are fasting?
The term "cutting" can have a few meanings. It is most commonly used in regards to "leaning out." For example: Competitive fitness, figure and bodybuilders are generally in shape (or hopefully) even in their "off" season. When they begin pre contest they alter their nutrition and training. As their competition draws near you being "cutting," or "getting down the minimal body fat percentage."
Also, "cutting" can be a term used to describe your nutrition when you are altering it and "emimanting," or "cutting" out items.
I hope this helps and doesn't leave you even more confused! lol If you don't feel I answered appropriately than just use the term in a referance and I will try to answer...or maybe someone else?
Hang in there and know you will get there!

Honestly, it's been really easy for me. Started 6 months ago.
I was browsing these forums and saw that people just like me were capable so it really motivated me to try.
One day something in my brain just clicked, and I threw everything that was junk food away, stopped drinking sodas that day.. etc etc.
Got my diet in check, whole wheats, eggs, canned chicken, chicken, lean steaks, cottage cheese, etc etc. I'm a really picky eater so I eat the same thing every day and have for practically the six months i'v been working out.. but it's been easy since I was picky to begin with.
I purchased a gym membership and brought my friend a few times. He showed me different lifting exercises and how to do them correctly.
I also purchased an elliptical so I could do cardio at any time of the day without the hassle of going to the gym. My diet and this have been the reason why I have been so successful.
I'm not very specific I guess, but when it comes down to it.. I was able to do all this with motivation. Once the first 20 lbs came off.. I was hooked.

My Transformation
What's up guys?
I want to congratulate everyone on their hard work and dedication!
I'd also like to thank the community for all of the valuable information it has provided.
It's important to realize that this thing we do is a change of lifestyle, not a simple fix that changes things over night. There are no magic techniques or special supplements needed to achieve results. Just blood, sweat, and tears.
This is a marathon, not a sprint and only the strongest make it to the end!
Every time you go to the gym, leave your ego at the door and your heart on the floor!
It's been about 9 months now since I've started my transformation and I can honestly say it has changed my life in so many ways.
For anyone who is just starting to make changes in their lifestyle, know that a lot of us have been where you are now and that you too can start making the right decisions and get on the road to success!
Check out my progress:
This picture was taken in October '07 at over 360 pounds and 45%+ body fat.

November '08- 260 pounds and 25% body fat.

Hi Patrice. During the first 11 months I was very limited on time therefore my meals had to be quick and easy and my workouts had to be in and out of the gym because I didn't get out of the house with my two babies until 8:30am and I needed to be home for their nap time @ 10am.
For that period of time, my diet was vastly different than what it is now. In the morning I would have a Carnation Instant Breakfast with skim milk, and head to the gym. At the gym, although I was very experienced and had competed in bodybuilding prior to gaining all my weight, I began with a whole body workout on machines with moderate reps of 10-15 and than rode the upright bike HARD for 20 - 30min depending on time.
When home I would eat again and have a can of tuna or a powerbar. I would continue to eat every three hours or so making sure I ate at least six small meals a day. Each meal was primarily protein. Dinner was usually an extremely small portion; sampling what I had made the family for dinner.
I am not a fan of protien shakes or bars on a regular basis but I had to do what worked for me at the time and this was better than the alternative of eating anything and everything and gaining more weight.
After about 2 or three month I used the knowledge I already had (I was already a fitness trainer etc.) and devised a workout program splitting my body up. I continued to do the same amount of cardio. Once my weight dropped significantly, and my joints could handle it, I added 2 min of cardio full out between each set. I would do this for a few weeks and than go back to a bodysplit and just cardio post training (never before training).
Let me know if you want to know anymore details or have anymore questions.

I know the feeling! Check out my former pics on my bodyspace page to see what I used to look like! I find it hilarious and disgusting all at once if that's possible.
