stretch marks and competing
Hey ladies, I have some pretty bad stretch marks on the sides of my waist. I cant afford surgery and I never see figure girls with stretch marks like mine. I have a nice physique and want to do my first figure competition in November. Are there women who compete with stretch marks? Or is there some secret I dont know about to conceal them?

i'm nowhere near experienced enough to know if it's a large detriment to you to have the stretch marks in a competition but i can tell you that while looking through oxygen's latest issue there was a couple of pages of pictures from last years ms. olympia/fitness/figure competition and several of the girls had stretch marks around their hips. these are girls with incredible physiques, winners of the competition and they have stretch marks that are visible so i don't think you should worry about it too much. but again, i don't claim to know very much about competing. at least, not yet.
good luck!

stretch marks
Wouldn't worry to much about your stretch marks on stage. With your tan
and distance away from judges it's not going to be a problem. And plus I don't think they judge too much on it either. Good Luck!

You'd be surprised at the stretch marks and scars that are on competitors that you do not see from the audience, but back stage, up close and personal they look just like everyone else. No one is completely perfect. There are things you can do to camoflage imperfections. The tanner makes a huge difference. Make sure you have a coach to help you with posing as that can also camoflage imperfections simply by proper positioning. I've even seen special make up used to cover up tatoos. It can be done.
good luck to you!

I've been competing over 5 years and I see women with stretch marks. More often than not. I have stretch marks fortunately for me they are where they're not easily seen. So don't worry to much about it and yes the tan does cover them some.

I agree that the stretch marks would be hard to see with a tan and the judges will be far enough away. I got stretch marks with my second pregnancy and you really can't see them too much. I think I notice them more than other people do.
I encourage women to re-think their position on stretch marks. Stretch marks show that you unselfishly gave up your body for your child for 9 months out of love. Stretch marks on a well-toned body also show that you've worked your butt off to get it back in shape. I don't think a well-toned body that's never had a child is nearly as impressive as one that has had to deal with the aftermath of a pregnancy and the trials of finding time to work out with a new baby. Stretch marks on a toned stomach show sacrifice, determination, and will-power. I know the judges may not be influenced by this, but it is still impressive.
Scars are cool, ladies; especially ones that mean everything that stretch marks do to a woman!

So so true! Your post brought tears to my eyes. Having stretch marks is an honor. I would not trade my daughter for the most perfect body in the world

try rubbing cocoa butter/vitamin E into the skin where the stretchmarks are and your tan should also help come competition time.

Thanks for posting this and thanks to MMMC for the alternate view point on stretch marks.
I too have been told by my trainer that after you put on the make-up no one will notice. He said I'd be surprised on how many of competitors had them, especially women of my age.

I have a road map on my stomach, but w/ the tan it's not as noticeable.. I've competed in 4 competitions already, and I see ALOT of girls back stage w/ them, shouldn't worry about it, the judges don't look at that, they look at the overall package that you present to the stage

I wouldn't worry about them... I am sure a lot of women have them. I have a few on my stomach and when I tan they are not has noticeable.

Wonderful post! I so agree with this. I've always perceived stretch marks as a normal part of life, or in the case of childbirth or working out---a sign of a life well lived. Or that a person has actually done something with their body, put it to work so to speak.
It's funny, I find it more unusual when I encounter someone that DOES NOT have stretch marks.
I'm getting some really good ones under my arms now from the muscles growing, and I tell you I couldn't be more proud to show them off!

mmmc Wonderful post!!
Right after surgery Bernadette Marturano told me that, "Scars don't take away from an amazing physique!" and my sister, "About 85% of the women backstage have them..."
I have a 4in. scar down my midline from open surgery. If that is not a big attention getter, I wouldn't think stretch marks matter and I have tons of those

The first thing that you need to know is that I am the husband to the lady who's represented by the username. Second thing is that even as a man I totally agree with mmmc's stand on the stretchmark issue (2/28/08). Brandie, my wife, has some on her upper thighs. For years I have told her that our two children whom she carried for nine months are a wonderful gift. If having our two kids means her having a few stretch marks it is a great tradeoff. With good care and treatment they can be eleminated or at least covered, but under know circumstances let them hold her or you back. If you do than you are saying that my kids held me back. I dont want to say that about myself, do you? Just thought that my wife and anyone else might like to hear it from a mans point of view.

I have never had children but I also have some stretch marks from when I was younger and put on weight (through puberty I fluctuated massively) now that I have worked hard to lose all the weight, noone ever suspects that I have them, especially people who never knew what I looked like before... but they are a constant reminder to me of what I have achieved
And I definitely agree with mmmc.... I admire all women who have the marks from giving birth and still keep themselves in amazing shape... go girls!
Good luck with your competition

get some body makeup if it bothers ya
try body makeup. They make makeup that covers tattoos...so it would have to cover stretch marks too...as long as they aren't very deep. Anyways, was trying to offer solution and now I just sound like a shallow b!tch, lol!
I had a kid and didn't get a single mark from that...but I have them on my inner thighs from puberty...body makeup covers well.
