usa teen powerlifting records
Hey i noticed at usapowerlifting.com the record for bench press for teens 16-17 years old was 352 pounds at 181 pounds bw. I have never benched in a meet before but i can bench press 315 raw. You guys think if i got serious i could take this record and invest in a bench shirt? I weigh 185 @ 17 years old.

What fed was that record in? there are tons of federations each with there own records..How do you bench powerlifting rules are strict the average gym lift would not come close to passing...If you could pause 315 raw no bouncing, lifting up ect then I would say youcould have a chance, but you will only be 17 for a short time and adding 37 lbs to you bench and cutting a few pounds may be hard.

ok remember at your ago you can gain weight fast...so first you have to not gain weight..you do not want to have to lose much if any.
Now not to be rude but thats 38 pounds you have to add to your bench...I would like to see you compete in a meet and see what you get..315 is a gym lift right..Most people get a lot more with a typical gym lift vs. a true paused PL bench. I can add 30lbs to my bench touch and go vs. paused...so without knowing what you can really legally bench it is hard to say..
Now you sound really strong for you age and weight..so go for it even if you do not get it keep training you could be a really good competitor..and there are lots of records to go after..

shirt
Its hard for me to gain weight actually ive been trying to get to 200 pounds for about a year. Im only 185 i think to get into the 181 pound weight class would not be a problem. As far as i know isnt is possible to add some serious weight to your bench when you train with a bench shirt? thats why i think i can do it. I also agree that benching with a pause is a lot harder than touch and go. But im this close to beating the record why not give it a shot ive got nothing to lose. What bench shirt do u think i should buy?

Everybody's been saying F6 lately, but I'd caution you to only use it if you arch moderately to really hard. Rage is better for a mild arch bencher IMHO. But I'm a total noob so listen to the experienced guys.

cool thanks for the advice..i dont really train with too big of an arch, but maybe i should start? Should i get wrist wraps also? Ive never trained with either. Would u recommend the rage or rage x since im new to the whole bench shirt thing? Also what size? my arms are about 16-17 inches @ 5'10" 185 pounds. Im going to go for the state record first which is 308 then hopefully the national teen record. If not then I have 2 more years to get to 362 since thats the 18-19 year old record.

I like a rage too.
Also if it's your first shirt, don't go too tight or too extreme. It can be a little tricky to learn a super tight shirt.

F6 is a decent shirt for a beginer...no where near the new RageX or Katana...they are in a different league...The f6 is forgiving and allows you to have a range of where to touch..you dont have to arch much at all...

Hey man I just ordered my first bench shirt and squat suit. I found this site and it has sick deals on Titan gear. Make sure when you take measurements that you are unflexed and unpumped. I have a 41-42 inch chest and got a 44, I'd go with your chest+2inches, round up to the nearest even #, esp if you are trying to gain weight still, that way you will learn the shirt easy, and then grow into it.

if you bench 315 raw now, its possible you could get 350ish the 2nd or third time you use the shirt.
my advice....ask around...buy the shirt....try your best to find a few powerlifters to work with as far as using the shirt, adjusting it and breaking it in
you CAN get hurt with shirts if you dont have a clue what you are doing....a lot of people, the first time they use a shirt they bring it down and then when they come up it shoots straight back into the rack....at every meet you go to you see that a few times

The main thing would be to get a shirt as quickly as possible and start training in it.
Start working the upper portion of your bench more. Board presses, bands if you have them, rack lockouts etc.
Do all of that and let us know how it goes.

ok thanks so you guys would recommend getting a titan f6 to start out with? Ill definately try to meet some powerlifters at my gym but its pretty rare where i go. Im going to try and get the state record for california first which is 308 and that shouldnt be a problem at all I could probably even do it raw.

As I mentioned, I'm new to shirts, I don't mind the rage so much - just getting the feel of it. I haven't tried a 1RM in it yet. Fortunately I have a decent coach who assured me it wasn't too tight (it sure felt tight ). If you want to go F6, I'm sure it will work for you, but I would try to work on arching at least a little if you're going to use it. My arch is still pretty minimal, so I'm happy with the rage for now.
Good luck man!

records are also made to be broken, this one should serve as your inspiration,
if i was at your age, and already doing great stuff, like you did. not a minute of doubt, i can do it.

just remember that u need three nationally certified referees at the meet for the record to count. That rule bite me in the ass on the same record. I did a meet the summer after my senior year and broke this record but because there was only one nationally certified refees it was not official. Contact the meet director and see if they will have enough referees or ask if it would be possible to get three.
