Amazon.com has a lot of food in bulk and FREE SHIPPING so that saves a lot of money. Mainly you need to shop around for the best price. Also if your serious look at others area for example I saved $20 a month by realizing I don't use all my cell phone minutes (I have rollover) and dropped to the lower plan. Bam easy savings for money I was wasting.

2 Rulez Of Bodybuilding:
1) "Eat, Lift, Sleep, Repeat"
2) Whenever in doubt, see Rule #1
Proof - Lotsa dudes in prison jacked beyond description who eat whatever they are told to whenever they are told to and sleep when they are told to and lift when they are allowed to.
(not to be confused with marriage)

I guess the typical response will be: "how bad do you want it?" Well, not bad enough that it makes me go bankrupt! If there's one thing I learned about life is that being huge and ripped doesn't really accomplish anything that meaningful. Being healthy is one thing, but taking it to such ridiculous levels is another. I'm not necessarily saying BBing is bad. If I did, I'd make excuses for quitting. But there has to be SOME way of not spending so much money!

Living off campus is cheaper, and its not like the unlimited meal ticket is free.. Use the money that would get sucked up by the meal plan to buy real food...campus food sucks anyway.
Just get a job.

Exactly. I paid a dollar for a package of lentils, which is a little over 2 cups dry. Cooked it makes 8 cups. One dollar for 8 cups of food.

my diet is VERY VERY cheap, because i'm crazy poor. you can get it all for only 130ish dollars/MONTH.
breakfast- 3 eggs + shake + rice
2nd- 16 oz milk + hamburger + 2 spoons of pb
3rd- same as 2nd
4th- 16 ozmilk+ shake + ramen noodles
5th- can of tuna + 4 tablespoons of pb
like i said, it's nothing special because of the cheapness, but each meal gives you 40ish grams of protein and 6-700 calories.
here's the prices for my area, and how i got 130ish dollars/month.
8 cartons of eggs - bout 16 bucks
12 gallons of milk- 36
30 cans of tuna- 25
one 6 lb tub of pb- 9
2 30 packs of 1/4 lb frozen hamburger patties- 30
+ whatever 1 cup of rice and one ramen noodle package costs/day.. i forget but its uber cheap.
i also shop at the poor store, Save-A-Lot ahha. if you have a poor store in your area i suggest you shop there, all the food is exactly the same.. there's no reason not to save your money.
boil two cartons of eggs a week and store them in the fridge
|
Repped.
This dude totally just helped you out. Unless you are sodium sensitive or have high bp, everything is great minus the ramen noodles.
I don't know what you are looking for OP by coming here and complaining. Everyone here has made sacrifices for their health monetarily, I guarantee it. I am losing weight and I am spending about $75-100 a week on food. I used to curse New York for the increase of my grocery bills (everything here is way more expensive than in Houston), but in the end it doesn't matter. I learned things to eat that were cheaper and I shut my mouth.
Where there's a will, there's a way.
I'll bet that if you REALLY want to be a bodybuilder or jacked or whatever, you will figure out how to make it happen.

There's quality nutrition, and then there's eating over 300g of protein per day. That ain't cheap, son.

No I don't have info posted, it's none of your business. I could have 10 inch arms or I could have 20. I could weigh 100 lb. or 200 lb.
Actually, if I had 10 inch arms and weighed 100 lb., I probably wouldn't need to be eating 300 g of protein per day and wouldn't exactly be in this predicament, now would I?
Congrats, you're not poor. But using your logic, bill gates is better than you.

I'd rather be as rich as Bill Gates than as big as Ronnie Coleman, if your eluding that physical fitness is more important than financial success, then your outta your mind.
How come my stats are your business but yours are top secret? If you had 20 inch arms I think you would have figured out the incredibly complex puzzle of eating by now, and wouldn't be asking asinine questions on this forum.
What predicament? You basically asked how can you eat more without paying more? Theirs no predicament, its just a stupid question. I gave you as best an answer as I could, same info everyone else is trying to drill into your dense skull, but you just keep pissing and moaning about how you can't get 300g of protein without breaking the bank. Either spend more money or get a job, this isn't a bodybuilding issue, its grade school level economics man. You cannot get more food without spending more. Remember when you wanted two chocolate milks, but only had a dollar, and they cost a dollar a piece? I know, you want and need that second chocolate milk, but you can't get it without buying it. Its complicated, I know, but boo-hoo. Theirs no secret supermarket of bodybuilding that just gives out free chicken breasts and whey protein, that everyone else is using but you. We just spend the money, and make it work. Its not like everyone whose getting 300g of protein a day is also selling organs or sleeping in cardboard boxes.

to get back to the topic at hand...
recently i signed up for the Michigan Food Assistance Program. I'm getting $177/month food credit. I'm a poor college student too. You should definitely look into it if you have money issues like me; all states have a program like this, and it helps immensely.
I highly recommend

When I was in college, I got a job in a hotel. I was fed buffet style twice a day and I would bring some tupperware to keep in my locker just in case they fed us something really good and I would take it home.
Just another suggestion.

I'm in the same situation you're in. I spend like $80 on food about every 3 days. Cottage cheese, Organic Pasta, Complex Carbs, Lettuce, Milk and Chicken breast. My wallet is completely shot. I do need a better parttime job tho.
I must say though If i wasnt bulking its not a complete bust, but i hate to just throw in the towel and give up that easily. Gonna have start cutting coupons I guess and find a better part-time job. What else is there.

$80 for 3 days of food?! You need to bargain hunt, my man. You NEED a costco (or Sams or wahtever is easiet for you) membership. Stock up on the protein basics (chicken, steak, fish, etc) there, find a local farmers market an stock up on the veg (fresh, local), and buy the milk and pasta at a chain grocery. When I see whole wheat pasta 3/$5 I buy about $20 worth; I go to a local bodega and buy brown rice by the 10 lbs bag.
Healthy food is far from being more expensive than the crap out there, you just need to spend wisely!

you're just shooting down everyone giving you options on how to bodybuild....dude if you don't want to do it...just don't do it...no need to blame it on school.
You could eat whatever the **** you wanted, and train and still make progress. And the prison analogy isn't invalid because of high t-levels in inmates give me a break....80% of guys in prison are there for drug offenses not violent crime...and the high t level statistic is among violent crime offenders.
And you know they have access to recreational drugs in prison...if a pot head drug addict eating crap 3 times a day who works out regularly with crappy 2nd hand gym equipment can look good so can you.
I eat 250g of protein a day, and I really probably only need about 200g...I just don't feel like eating 600g of carbs lol....protein isnt expensive, I can get turkey breasts for $4/lb, eggs for $2/dozen, cans of tuna for less than a dollar each and nonfat milk for $3-4/gallon. But dude, you could eat the free cafeteria food and just make sure to get a big serving of meat at each meal and you'd be fine.
You don't need 300g of protein...if you did, you would already be successful at bodybuilding because you would have well over 200lbs of lean body mass....and hey....I guess you could be 6'6...but barring being really tall, you don't need that much protein yet.

Thanks. Yeah, I was just finding out about that over on my thread. Costco and Sams club is exactly what I was looking for. This is soooo going to save me. I always thought of Costco and Sam's club like a Home Depo. I never knew they sold food in bulk like that and supposedly about 25 chicken breasts for $18. That's f*ckin awesome. If true.
I'm a little suspect but hoping thats true, just need to find a Costco nearby. I at least do know where I can find a Sam's Club. Very cool news for me.
Don't mean to be a Chatty Cathy here but I have quick question on Milk.
A little preface info first. Lived in Europe for awhile and I kind of gotten use to their UHT milk (Ultra High Temperture). Which lasts for months and I really don't taste a difference between that and pasteurized milk. It was really cheap too bought crates of over there. Been looking for them here but most of the local chain Super Markets that I've been into don't carry them. Now here comes the question.
Does Costco or Sam's Club carry it or one over the other?
Please tell me Sam's Club does since its the closest one nearby. If I can get that in bulk. That place is the ****. Saving me on Chicken and Milk. Heaven even.

Sarge, it sounds like you have made up your mind, BBing is too expensive...regardless of the fact that other poor college kids do it
just quit, no one wants to hear your complaining.

I'm a little suspect but hoping thats true, just need to find a Costco nearby. I at least do know where I can find a Sam's Club. Very cool news for me.
Does Costco or Sam's Club carry it or one over the other?
Please tell me Sam's Club does since its the closest one nearby. If I can get that in bulk. That place is the ****. Saving me on Chicken and Milk. Heaven even.

Both are awesome, I think the bag of 28 chicken breasts from Costco was less than $18. If you buy the right stuff, you'll save a ton. I've never gotten it, but if you like rice, they sell a bag of brown rice that could be used to fortify a WWII trench. I dunno about buying milk in bulk, just because its gonna go bad, but maybe your drinking it faster than me . I usually stick to stuff like frozen chicken, steaks, oats, canned goods, frozen berries, olive oil, anything that won't go bad really. I keep stuff like bread, milk, and cottage cheese on a weekly shopping list. I remember my mom using Sam's Club when I was younger, I don't think its related to CostCo, but i'm sure their savings are pretty similar.
edit: Potatoes too!

I hear the OP but for different reasons. I eat kosher so the meat and food is rediculously expensive. I'm 280 pounds and try to get my protein from lean meats, fish and chicken. Meat is between $10.00 and $20.00 per LB. depending on what cut. Whether I need it or not I try to get at least 280 grams of protein a day. Sh*t even my whey is super expensive and I pay about $30.00 for 2 pounds. The only sources of protien I can buy as cheap as everybody else is milk, tuna, eggs and general grocery items but meat, poultry, whey and fish are a killer for me.
