British Construction Workers

Ok so I have lived in London for about 3 months now, and I pass by a construction site at least two times a day. Every time i walk by the workers are outside hanging out and smoking or eating. Do they ever actually do any work. Are British construction workers just lazy?

This is a very accuracte statement

These are the same construction workers moaning that "immigrants are stealing our jobs".

yep i noticed that also when i moved over here. my mates work as labourers and said some of their co-workers take laziness to a new level

It depends who you work for and how youre contracted. Majority of people are self employed and large companies contract them to do a job.

Sometimes you are paid per hour, sometimes paid for the work youve done. Some work that takes up a lot of time isnt reflected in the price you get paid for it. You may be offered a bonus if you complete a project by a certain date, if you do it quite easily and are ahead of schedule why not chill out.

Its like everyone, if you can chill out, you will. Its not just British tradesmen.

The normal hours are 8am start, short break around 11, dinner at 1, finish between 4 and 5. But if youre self employed and contracted most arrive at 9 and **** off at 3. Take into consideration the conditions people are working in, and majority of the time you have to drive something 4 or 5 hours round trip to the job each day.

A lot of those workers are immigrants btw

Yeah, in London. Had my bathroom and kitchen completely redone a few months ago, I think those guys were Polish...

depends. if you get paid by the hour, you take as long as possible
if you get paid when the jobs done, you do it as quick as possible

Look at china's opening ceremony displaying ruling with an iron fist. Ours will have a hand full of chavs, a few disabled, exactly 4 Asians and 4 black people. And a banner 'we dont want to offend anyone so we arent holding up union jacks'
