Angry Workout for broken arm?

I seriously just joined this site today, so forgive me for being totally ridiculous (that said, I did warn you). Anyways, I have a feeling I'll be on here often since I recently (Sunday) broke my arm and am stuck at home for now. I was working out 3-4 times a week doing pretty girly workouts - the usual cardio and some strength training. I'm more of a swimmer and water polo player and was doing that a few times a week recreationally (23 and out of college).

Anyways, my arm/wrist is broken in three places. Because of the severity of one of the breaks in my wrist, I have pretty much a full arm cast. It goes halfway up my bicep I'd say. I really don't want to make my injury worse, but it looks like I'll have a cast for a minimum of ten weeks w/ possible surgery. Is there anything I can do as far as working out? I'll be seeing my othropedic surgeon again pretty soon but wanted to see if anyone else had advice. I'm going stir crazy already and really don't want to become completely lethargic and just sit around. Thanks

I trained with a compound fracture of my right ankle. I basically dragged a bench around and made stuff up as I went.

I'm scheduled for surgery again in december and suspect I will be doin' the same thing.

Work on your legs and anything else that doesn't involve that arm. You will be a big time motivator in the gym.

There have been studies that suggest that training an uninjured limb decreases the amount of atrophy of the injured limb.

Just go to the gym and just keep doing what you do. It will keep the crazies away.

good luck
H

Increase body awareness...

The body is interconnected. Working legs does "stuff" in other parts of the body. If you are working out, move slow, really feel the movement, what it is doing to your broken arm, and avoid pain in the limb. Powering through the pain isn't a good idea, and if you are body unaware, you could be missing important pain signals.
