Lots of love!
Thanks to the love/guts/dedication/glory of the folks here and elsewhere, I took you up on the challenge and my trainer and I met with a man who has judged the female categories. We are debating which category to train for, but if I can summon up the guts it looks like I might possibly make the commitment to go for it!
So I will keep showing the love as much as I can but if go silent for long periods from this point on, it's just because I am reading, reading, reading, reading (you get the point). Much to learn. I'll still be here watching and cheering you on in my heart, I just might not have much time to type!
Mucho love to all!

Just stopped by to introduce myself. I am a 40 (nearly 41) year old guy who has been working out for quite a while. Although I have never competed, I might do a show next year if I get up the nerve.

thought I would visit this section
HI
I have been on bb.com for just a short time. I mostly spend time in the womens section, but thought that coming over to the over 35 would be a good place for me as well, since I am 41.
I am a 41 year old single mother of three boys, with the oldest living in california. So I just have the two boys at home.
I did not get serious about weight lifting until June. I had been over 210 pounds, lost the weight, and then decided to start weight lifting. I had been doing exercise videos before that. I was doing turbo jam and hip hop abs, which are ok, but I wanted to get serious about my body. I started lifting, then joined bb.com and really got serious. The people on this website are so very motivating, it helped get me out of my rut, and really start to lift. I was just going in and passing my time, not really lifting very heavy, just kind of doing it half heartadly. But then I came to this site, and got really motivated. I now push myself harder than I ever have before, and I know that someday, maybe not tomorrow, or next week, or maybe six weeks from, but someday I will finally get the body that I have always wanted. I just love this site and all the people here who are so very helpful and motivating.
So here I am and here I plan to stay for hopefully a long time.

My first post....
Hi Everyone. I joined this board about 3 weeks ago and have been reading and reading as much as I could.
I am 37 year old Male, 5'11" and I weigh 214 lbs (although I feel like I look 300 lbs!)
Growing up I was always thin as a rail. Through high school and my college years I was about 150-155lbs MAX!
Then the inevitable happened......I got hitched! Next thing I know I am pushing 200 lbs.
Like most others I have thought and thought of getting in shape for many years.....then it happened.
The BIGGEST reason to get in shape...
My first child..... that 8 years ago....and I kept on thinking of getting in shape....
Then the second BIGGEST reason happened.......
My second child..... that was 5 years ago...and I kept on thinking of getting in shape....
Then the third BIGGEST reason happened......
My third child....that was 4 years ago.....and I kept on thinking of getting in shape....
Then came the fourth BIGGEST reason.....
My fourth child.....that was 9 months ago....and I kept on thinking of getting in shape....
Well then something else happened that changed me.....I was at the movies with my brother-in-law and almost got into a altercation with someone. ( on a serious note....not our fault...the other party was intoxicated)
As we were leaving the movies, my brother-in-law let me know, in no uncertain terms, that I had better learn to curb my mouth or it was going to get me into trouble.
So with that warning I realized that I don't know of a single way to defend myself. So I started looking at different martial arts programs. I decided on Krav Maga.
Well after months of taking person lessons, my instructor had a talk with me. Basically he told me that doing Krav Maga would help me lose weight.....but it would be a long process. He basically told me that I need to start going to the gym and doing cardio and weights. If I didn't, I would basically continue to suffer with not breathing well, and struggling.
Well I joined a gym very close to my home. For the past 2 months I have been waking up at 5 am and going to the gym....5 days a week.
I have changed my eating habits and am taking supplements. I have seen changes my body.....but I have only lost about 2-3 pounds since I started.
I will start another thread with some specific questions I have.
Just thought I would introduce myself.

Yes congrats are in order!
I have come to realize that the the statement:
"It's not how hard you can get hit, it's how hard you can hit and get back up" that counts. (Credits to Jack Dempsy and Rocky Balboa)
You are definately and inspiration! Keep it up!

Newbie Alert
First post, so here it goes....
I'm Gary from Aurora Co. Decided it was time to get in some shape other round, and at 41 it wasn't gonna just happen. Got myself a Bowflex and actually use it (LOL). Found this place by accident, but think I like it. I hope to get to chat with more of ya, and share some work-out, diet, cardio, and over-all life strategies. I wish the best of luck to everyone here. Hope to hear from ya soon.

New to the Site
Greetings Everyone!
I'm glad I found the over 35 Forum. I found this site some time ago when looking for bodyweight exercises. My finances and distance prohibit me from joining a gym at the current time. Before I left Syracuse in 2006, I was in excellent physical shape. However, after moving back home, I was unable to train in the same manner. I decided that I needed to get back in shape and knew that I had limited equipment. I started with 20 lb dumbells (now have 30s), a Swiss Ball, my bodyweight and cardio. For what I have to work with, the results have not been bad.
Until I put up a site and saw so many people on here working on their bodies, I had begun to lose some of my motivation. I must say the 35 and over crowd has inspired me.
During this past week, I have added more cardio, concentrated more on my exercise form, and really worked on my diet and can see tangible results.
I am looking for any people willing to share bodyweight exercises that will be good for the upper and lower back (I have a few, but want to keep the variety in the workout--I will be putting up a pull-up bar within the next few weeks). I am also looking for some input on running/training shoes. I've been a New Balance man, but have been disappointed in them as of late because it seems that they don't provide the arch support I need when I do my cardio workouts. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I've posted my workout on my page and a rather amateur video of some of my leg workout. I scoured the internet and magazines to find some exercises that I thought would challenge my body to grow, but would greatly appreciate any that people on this site could offer. Please feel free to visit my site leave a comment or add me as a friend. If anyone is curious about my workout, please feel free to ask questions.
Thanks!

Anyway I have a few questions. 1. I feel some soreness in the part of my shoulder. Am I hitting it too much. 2. Im doing Mon,Tue,off on Wed, then Thur, Fri,Sat and off on Sun. Is this a goo regimun? 3. Im diabetic that means I cant take alote of the supplements that are out there. I want to also take testosterone, but DR. said my levels are fine. I just want a boost and I dont want her on my back. Do you know any diabetics out their that can help with having to run every thing through my Dr.

I need some advice on diet and lifting
Heres the dealio...
I used to lift back in the day, but nothing too serious. However I am blessed with a stocky frame and the ability to blow up my muscles almost effortlessly. BUT I am also better at gaining and holding onto fat. Big muscles covered by mass layers of fat makes one look...well, not good.
I have been not doing anything physical for years now, save for two years ago when I joined the boxing gym and noticed I still respond to weights and even cardio training really well. (A concern of mine since I turned 33 and have always heard life after 30 is not conducive to physical fitness gains. At least for me, thats a old wives tale)
What I need is THE BEST diet. One for gaining weight to bulk up quality mass, and the other for cutting fat while keeping as much muscle as possible. I don't need variations in food, I will eat the same things every day as I won't be eating for pleasure. So if someone say's Oatmeal, toast and juice for breakfast, this for snack, that for lunch and these for dinner (Repeating the same snack sequence for my six meals) that's what I want. SO, if someone has the best diet of all time, the magic food bullet, please let me know? I would appreciate it! (To clarify, I need a one day diet I can replicate every day)
Right now I am fat. So I will be cutting fat first. My goal is to cut 20 lbs of pure fattage in about 8 weeks. I then will transfer over to bulk, so does anyone have that bullet for me? It's time to go hunting for a better body!
Thanks ahead of time.
~Chris

Thanks for the compliment. I'm working toward planche push-ups. I want to see if my 44 year old butt can master them. This is the first position in the progression. Hope all is well with you and yours. Take care!

A senile newbie
Yes, I am a newbie.
I had posted in another thread, before I came across this one.
Let me describe myself and the reason I have joined BB.
I am 63 years old but feels like 103 yo.
I weight 266 pounds and I am 5' 10" tall.
Three years ago I had a bout with Prostate Cancer, dealt with
41 sessions of Radiation Treatments.
Presently under my Primary Health Care Physician:
Diagnosed with Diabetes Type 2 , taking one a day Janumet 50/1000mg.
Diagnosed High Blood Pressure , taking one a day Diovan 320mg.
Because of low Hemoglobin level, diagnosed with Anemia and taking twice a day 45mg of Iron tablets.
The biggest problem I am facing is extremely low level of
Testosterone which is 47 , the range for my age should be 241-827.
Neither my Urologist or Endocrinologist or the Primary are willing to help me with Testosterone Replacement Therapy due to the Cancer.
I, on the other hand wants a happier life.
Without doctors prescription I am going to get Testosterone Cypionate injectables.
Of course with the abundance of information here at BB, I have been learning how to inject myself. Still, I am tentative as this is a very foreign territory.
I am incline in purchasing through the Black Market if needs be. Probably my only choice.
Yes, I had blood test done. Didn't want to make my introduction too long.
I you could spare some of your valuable time please, feel free to educate me.
Thank you.

Relatively New Newbie
I am new to this forum and relatively new to living a healthy lifestyle. I got serious about getting healthy in January 2008 at 252lbs and 33% bf. I'm now at about 185lbs and 12.5% bf.
I'm still struggling to get the rest of the belly fat off. It is holding on for dear life, but since I started to really focus on eating clean 5 to 6 times a day, it seems to be coming off very slowly but surely.
I lift heavy 5 days a week and do cardio for 30 minutes 4 times a week. Unfortunately, I have a jacked up shoulder I'm trying to rehab for the next few weeks so can't do much for chest & Shoulders. I'm hoping the rehab plan works and I can start hitting it hard again by Thanksgiving. My next goal is to get to 10% bf by 1/31/09.
Any input is appreciated and I'm stoked to watch this forum for helpful info.
