junk food cravings - how to control them

Recently, I've been stressed with work and my other collaterals. Track's starting soon and my hamstrings are still bad...To compensate, I've been putting my normal diet aside and eating complete sh!t...Like last night I had pizza and wings with orange soda...today for lunch I ate lucky charms with pasta and had ice creme afterward. An hour later I had a bag of chips and a cereal bar.

I would usually NEVER eat like this, but lately I've been. I think it's b/c of the stress/anxiety, I eat junk food b/c 1. I don't care, 2. I think it's going to make me feel better, but after wards I just feel nasty...

Right now, I'm on restriction, so it's kinda hard to just get out of the barracks and work out b/c I have formations every 3 hours. What else, besides exercise, do you guys do to curb eating junk food and sticking with the right foods. Any help is appreciated, if I keep eating like this I'm gonna gain mad weight..

Thanks - steveo

I understand how you're feeling mate.

It's the evil "all-or-nothing" thinking going on here.

Don't hold yourself too strictly to a "diet plan". Perhaps, you can eat some nutritious whole foods and some processed foods in the same meal, I dunno. No one is telling you, you can or cannot eat certain things.

There is NOTHING WRONG with having "junk" food in your diet. If you wanna call it that.

Have a piece of dark chocolate(that contains no milk), that should do the trick. Chocolate is a healthy way to boost serotonin levels in the brain.
Also, don't be too strict on yourself, because when you think of foods you can't have, you want them more. Just eat healthy alternatives when you get those cravings.

Maybe you're preggo? But seriously I think everyone has been there. I usually chew gum or chug some water to try and fill myself up before I get too out of control.. They say that brushing your teeth will also subdue your appetite.

dark chocolate cannot be called junk for me, the taste isnt that good

junk 1-2 times a week do not hurt any1, but there are healthy choices that u could add to ur diet and taste awesome, aka PB ( i had problems controling it though )

This is one thing I actually agree with Chris Sugart and his Velocity diet on.

The longer you're away from it, the less you'll want it. The more often you cheat though, the more often you'll crave the crappy foods.

The key is being disciplined enough to stay away for a good 6 weeks or so. When you cheat once in a blue moon you'll realize how NOT great it is.

DISCIPLINE.

I dont believe that. I went seven months without varying off my diet. Then when I finally did have something I wanted it still tasted amazing, and I still wanted more.

I think its just about self control, you don't have to eat a whole box of cookies in one sitting.

Occasional junk food won't hurt a person (if stress is causing cravings) as long as person understands the importance of how good nutrition fits in the Big picture.

What I think is tough for *some* stressed people to understand is how fruits/vegetables are important when they don't provide much in the way of calories per dollar spent. (vegetables in particular may be hard to justify since they don't affect macros much)

Willpower works fine short term, but try to rely on that continously while your body is fighting a slippery slope of consistently bad nutrition. (The body is a machine and it needs more than just macros to work right)

Find ways to spruce up your regular meals, and make them mentally more enticing.

Add a wedge of lemon to some of you meats for example. Great for fish/salmon. Add some chilli powder to stir fry's or on top of your chicken.

Just small things to break the blandness, yet give you that enjoyment of somethin that tastes great. Because that's all you're craving, a different taste, not the actual junk food so much.

thanks for the feedback guys, i really appreciate it. Yeah i eat a ton of fruit, but not a lot of veggies - i snack on almonds though out the day too. They have fiber, but i don't "feel" full. I guess i just have a compulsion to eat whenever I'm stressed. I heard that sometimes you eat, but what your body is really telling you is that your thirsty. That could've been going on today too, not enough fluids, especially b/c I'm coming down with a cold - another drawback of eating like garbage.

Reps. This is so true.
