I know diet is the most important part...but can I still lose weight this way?
I've dieted strictly before...and each time I fall off the wagon and end up worse than where I started. I need to take it one step at a time...so I was wondering if the things I'm eating now can help with my weight loss goals. I find for the first time, that my eating patterns now is something I can be very happy with and I will make small adjustments now and then to make it healthier.
My diet now consists of whole grain wheat bread, cottage cheese, eggs, fish, rice (< 2x a week), turkey sandwiches, lots of veggies, kashi go lean cereal, low fat milk, yogurt, and I eat out about 2-3 times a week...which is a big step for me, I used to eat out every day! When I do eat out, it is almost always asian food consisting of tofu, or fish...I skip the rice. There's just loads of sodium.
I was just wondering, with my diet alone, could it aid with weight loss? I also work out but don't have a set program yet...just try to get it in when I can. I normally eat 4-5 times a day.
I notice a lot of people here eat VERY strict...but I don't think I can do that just yet. Will the bread that I eat stop me from losing weight? I try to make the best choices when it comes to food nutrient combinations. Any advice would be great...thanks.

Focusing on creating healthy habits is always a good first step.
You MIGHT be able to get the results you want with loose guidelines. Have you ever simply cleaned up your diet before (that's what you're doing)? Try it and see what happens. If it doesn't work, you'll have to look into doing something more structured so you can better troubleshoot what's up with your diet.

That's how I started when I weighed about 180#..just cleaned things up and ate healthy for ME..not even close to what people on here would consider clean..lol..started moving more and saw a lot of results..I just kept tweaking and improving bit by bit so as not to overwhelm myself and give up totally

Here's an interesting discussion you might want to read about strict dieting, bingeing, and finding what works for you:

I haven't cleaned up my diet like this before...when I did diet, it was all out...sort of all or nothing kinda thing. Never worked...and I always ended up binging without picking myself back up.

That's what i'm doing, and I'm really excited to see how it works out for me. I will be soo happy if I start seeing results from the things I'm eating now.

I do prefer to follow the 90/10 thing...although it's not spot on, I am trying to eat healthy foods the majority of the time, and I like to have a few nice meals with my boyfriend every week. I'm pretty sure the foods we eat are healthier than eating at an American restaurant. Thanks for everyone's help...I feel a lot better and more motivated!

Your food choices are fine! I eat all those foods during my entire contest prep (except yogurt) With each meal make sure your eating a protein, clean carb and healty fats.
Little changes and smaller goals will make a huge difference. Too many people make the mistake of going balls to the walls and restrict themselves too much, too soon...this usually never works!!

Kashi Go Lean Crunch has something like 30 g of sugar though. I used to eat that too, I love it, but I stopped.
