Thanks for the warning. I don't have any intention of jumping up "too much" though, just enough! Although tonight I kind of made myself a little mad: my hubby kept saying all day how he didn't want me to try and lift heavy again tonight, because I'm always feeling weaker this particular week out of the month. I said I wouldn't, but inside I thought that I'd try and get close to that weight again... BAD IDEA! I lost form on my last rep of my last set and racked the weight ASAP, it was like my lower back gave out (perhaps from my DLs yesterday, hm?). Stupid, overzealous me. No harm done but it could've been bad, so believe me I'm not looking to up the weight too fast!!

Some of the guys give me funny looks but that's not my problem!!! I just want to keep getting bigger muscles and lifting heavier... 'cause the most fun is when you can outlift the guys who think girls with muscles are not hot! :-)
I love women talking like that. There definitely aren't enough women like you out there. Real shame.

Hope nothing serious was injured Donica. When I first started reading your post, I thought, uh oh, anohter husband trying to tell his wife not to get too big, which I didn't believe from him...but I see that he was truly worried about you. LIsten to him from now on Donica!

I can't wait to be back at the point where I can outlift a few of the boys or even better lift up a few boys in the gym (lol). That's when I'll know I'm ready to show off some nice big muscles.

So yesterday in the gym I'm doing my own thing, working on my arms with the cables. There was a 50s something guy (I've never seen him before) and he kept staring at me with serious dirty looks. I can do up to 90 lbs on my triceps workout and I suppose it looks heavy to anyone else moving all those plates. I get done with my sets and out of the way, then this guy hurrys in, moves the pin to 140 lb and proceeds to quickly do the same exercise as I just did. Then he gave me a smug look before he stalked out of the gym.

I had totally forgotten how some guys respond to a woman lifting weights! What a dumb jerk! I don't care a hoot what he thinks of me and it's his problem if I threatened his masculinity! Do other gals who are working for bigger muscles have to put up with that? I thought 20 years later would have helped with male attitudes but... sigh... I guess not!

Aha hahahahaha! That's too funny! I have a home gym for this very reason. I do remember when I used to hit the gym the looks. Nope..unfortunately there are still very "insecure" men out there that are totally intimidated by a strong woman. I'd take that as a compliment! Wow...90lb tri's...that's incredible! I'm happy with 30 lbs tri extensions....now I know I CAN do this. Great work!

I hear it over and over again on this forum of exactly the same thing you are saying. There are more guys who tolerate or even like women that want to get muscle, but for the general population, I'm afraid it is still an anomoly.

This sort of thing just makes me laugh, since most men who try this with me either end up only being able to do 4 -6 reps (as opposed to my 12- 15) or the only way they do the monster weight is with bad form. Nothing makes me smile more than the guy who asks to "work in", sees the weight I just did, adds 20 - 40 lbs and then can't do it!

I run into another problem, though. Guys who work out at the same time as me are all pretty cool (I call them my "fan club", since they all seem to get off on a female bb in their midst). Every now and then, though, I ask for a spot from some guy I don't know who's working out with a buddy. After the spot, they'll sometimes comment to their buddy, "Hey, she lifts more weight than you do!" OMIG, just cut his balls off & hand them to me! There are now two guys at the gym who won't even look at me after their buddies did this!

Someone I used to know had this happen one day:

She incline benched 60 pound dumbbells in the gym one night. A couple of young guys on the next bench watched and instantly had to "beat the girl". One grabbed a 65 pound dumbbell. He ached and strained to even get it up into position off the floor, pressed about a half rep, couldn't get it up and had to drop the dumbbells with a thud back on the floor. The guy was beet red and both of them high tailed it out of there real fast. The lady and her training partner and EVERYBODY ELSE in the area broke out laughing! I wish I had been there.

Zuebee, so sad that some guys are so insecure that they can't compliment a gal for handling so much weight. I think it's impressive, good for you.

Stormyiii, good luck. Too bad the show wasn't closer to NYC or I'd be there rootin' for ya.

No, nothing injured, just a "freaky moment" when things could've gone bad... I've always read (and please don't mind the "girl talk" all you male buff-chick admirers out there who are reading this thread!) that the first few days of your period you should lay off the heavy weights, because of this and that and whatever, all this hormonal jazz. But then I read here in the forums once that during those first few days your GH levels skyrocket and because of the hormonal mix women can make more gains than any other time of the month--so to train hard! So I thought I'd try that out... and ended up being weaker like all the magazines said (I've never tried before so it was a bit of an experiment). Anyway, I've been feeling dead tired since then and think I'm going to take off a few days and start working out again on the weekend. Bronwyn's recent before and after shots are a great reminder of how much good a vacation from training can be for the body sometimes!!

Wow, 90 pounds! On a good day I might use a 60-pound fixed barbell for skullcrushers, and maybe just for my last set or so... kudos to you!! I'd love to be able to work up to that!!

I know compared to a lot of the lovely 'lifting ladies out there, I'm still pretty wet behind the ears in terms of poundage and everything, but most of the time when I'm squatting or benching the guys around me think it's pretty cool. I haven't come into contact with anyone at the gym who felt threatened by it--at least, not enough to try and compete with me! Outside the gym, certain men have asked me about my lifts (which automatically makes me think they really don't know what bodybuilding is all about), and they've gotten all goofy when I told them my basic poundage for sets and reps. Whatever! People like that with insecurities are going to act sub-human until they A) get over their insecurities or B) at least learn how to deal with them in a socially-acceptable, grown-up way.

You could be flattered that they felt 'threatened' enough to try and top you!!

Hi All
Thanks for the compliments. Right now I am doing my best to prepare the comeback in 2009.
My weight it about 143lbs still, while I lost some BF% ... how I did it - I have no idea I just follow the plan my coach gave me.

To comments - I have no idea why I never was bother about being strong too..... But really - only sometimes I saw looks at me when we were in the big luxury gym - but nothing else.... Nobody tried weights I did, nobody talked to me or about me.... Just (mostly terrified) looks at me and nothing else....

And when I am remembering when somebody told me I look like a man - it was maybe when I started. When I was a teenage class.... But not now.... Again - during summer I walked in miniskirts and shorts in the city and I saw how people are turning their heads - but nothing else....

It makes me to think that 1) I am blind and deaf to things like that 2) I am so freaky for other people that they are affraid to say something like this in front of me.... anyway it is not important for me.

Well - I guess it is rather the rest from dieting in my case however it was payed but terrible BF% I have to get rid of now. Also after my return I was on the really heavy strenght training I never had before. And I reached my personal best lifts ever in my life.... Maybe also massages, spa treatment and physiotherapy I had after my return back from the hospital did their job - because I may now train again basic heavy trainings as I did when I was teenager.

To first few days of your period - it is highly individual and I also think it may vary each month. I heared about stronger women and also weaker women that time. Sometimes I have average lifts that time - but very offten I really feel I may go harder and I am about 5-10% stronger than in normal days. But few days AFTER my strenght goes away and I am 5-10% weaker first 2-5 days after. So it is all about listening to your body.

I wish I could have been there to see that too! Stuff like that happened all the time when I was into bodybuilding 20 yrs ago and naive me thought things might be different now.

I did get a few comments from men on this current incident that maybe I broke gym etiquette or something to piss this guy off. I am always careful when I first come in the area to take my time getting my gloves on, water bottle & towel out of my bag, etc while I see who is doing what where so I don't step in front of anyone in a set. I'm really sure I didn't get in his way; I think he just had a brain cramp on seeing a woman lifting weights. Most guys are very nice to me so I will ignore the morons out there!

I'm lucky that my triceps have always responded well to weight training. I like seeing how much I can push them to do. I figure muscular arms are better than the old lady flap hanging down on the back of your arms!:-)

I wish I were at the gym, I'm starting to miss it. I HATE having tendonitis! I plan on starting back in the gym this week even though I only expect to do cardio and maybe some light work on the machines since I have been advised by the doc to lay off the weights until I have at least a few pain free weeks under my belt.
I normally wouldn't be so cautious but the last time I worked out it took me several days to get relief from the wrist pain. I really don't want to do any more damage. I just want to heal and get back to business.

Well, I guess I reached the point of being huge At least a lot of people told me I am a beast when they saw this picture.... when I saw it I thought it is a joke and photoshop, but it is not photoshoped!

So I dont want big muscles now... except the biceps as I have no peaks
But now I am in the hunt for QUALITY and LEAN MUSCLES - to add hardness to all that mass.....

See you

Bronwyn, you look awesome! I can't get over how you survived your illness only to come back looking so great!!! You have a lot of dedication to the sport of body building, you could have just quit after being in the hospital but no... you took on the challenge and girl, you are winning! :-)

OMG Lada, you rock! You look absolutely awesome! I wish I had your 'no peak' biceps! LOL

I'm looking forward to seeing you when you're cut!

I am really envious but I know that what I'm seeing is all dedication and hard work and that if I want to get anywhere I have to be as dedicated and hard working as you are. I've had nothing but setbacks with my nutrition due to a loss of income in the last couple of months and an injured wrist which has left me a lot of missed training time and I've lost a lot of the muscle and strength that I had gained. It's back to the drawing board but I'm not giving up!

Thanks for being so inspiring Lada. I think your great.

Oh, Bronwyn, like I said in my comment at your Bodyspace: Your back is truly bodacious!! It makes my scrawny little back look like nothing!! Your muscles are matured and beautiful and I WISH I looked even half so good as you! I showed your picture to my husband and at first all he said was you're "hot", but then he broke it down and said that you're big and beefy, but still very voluptuous and beautiful. It's a great look to have, and it shows all your hard work... if you decide you want to be smaller, that's your choice, but the world will have lost one fantastically beautiful female bodybuilder.
