1st New Workout Today

I created a thread called 'Starting Back Up' not too long ago and decided to start Bill Starr's 5x5 program. Today I did my first day of it and I though I was in good shape going into it but I had a reality check at the gym.

I just got a membership yesterday to my local gym. I did 125x5 for my bench and my squat was even lower. I'm going all the way to the ground with my squats. I'm too embarrassed to post up the numbers. My question is should I do Rippetoes Starting Strength instead since it seems I'm not quite ready? (even with baseball and wrestling in my past)

I also did around 95lbsx5 BB Row, incline situps (1x20 w/25lbs, 3x10 no weight), and 2x10 weighted hypers (25lbs).

What do you guys think?

I think you need to keep it up! Consistency is the key.

Smile Gains won't happen overnight

Strength is relevant, what weight your pushing doesn't matter when you start out. As you keep lifting your gains will raise exponentially over time. I am only a 103 pounder but for my size I am strong because I have been consistent with my workouts and always push myself to do just a little more. If you REALLY have a problem with weakness...find smaller people to workout with. (it was a joke, I'm sorry)

Stay with it-everybody has to start somewhere. I remember the first time I went through Starr's 5x5, I got surprised, too. That was a "few" years ago. But I stuck with it, and stayed right with the program, and my strength increased, just like yours will, if you work the program exactly as written, and eat enough. Stay with it; don't quit.
