Mallet Finger/Flexor Tendon injury

Long shot but anyone ever dealt with this? http://www.handuniversity.com/topics.asp?Topic_ID=19

Got a splint on but don't know if I can deal with 6 weeks without lifting since I've got a 3 inch long split on my middle finger...thanks in advance for any insight.

In the same boat

I just got my mallet finger on saturday. I've got a plastic finger armor thing that goes top and bottom, you'll see one if you google mallet finger. I just lifted for the first time today with it on. Pressing is fine, squats are fine, pulls are a bit tricky. Not lifting is not an option, so it's just a matter of how to work around it. I'm going to buy some straps today to see if that helps. I have to give up cleans, pullups and chinups aren't looking too good, but i'm hoping deadlifts and rows can be done with straps. The main issue is than my finger starts to slip out of the splint and bend a bit at the tip. It's not too bad if I reset my grip every rep. I'm only doing sets of 5 reps, so it's not too much of a problem to do this. Typing sucks. I'd like to hear from someone who has dealt with this longer than me. Like I said, not lifting is not an option, so it's just a matter of figuring out how to deal with it.

This is a great time to try out the 20 rep squats routine.

Give your tendons ample time to heal. You don't want to re-injure it and make recovery time longer.

I went to the sports authority and bought some wieghtlifting hooks made by Altus. Problem solved. I'm still not used to them, not really sure that I want to get too used to them, but they work. As long as my finger doesn't bend, I'm fine, and my finger isn't bending when I use these hooks. Give them a try.
