Whats with all this nu metal/alternative stuff? He said HEAVY METAL/HARDCORE
meaning heavier then heavy, no hip hop infused rock like limp bizkit (people still like them???)
get some tunes by these bands if you want heavy stuff
Mortification (old)
war of ages
Living sacrifice
Old Extol (pre blue print dives)
Becoming the archetype
Sleeping Giant
Tourniquet (early stuff mostly)
Impending doom
Old Zao
As I lay dying
Once nothing
all heavier bands, not all are melodic enough though, but this is heavy not slow. If you want softer rock/metal bands then try some of the above the other guys listed (korn etc)
growling/screaming really helps me lift better then someone crooning over a microphone with detuned guitars.

So many tracks..Bury Your Dead is awesome..I would say you should grab the new As I Lay Dying, that is an excellent workout record. Helmet, Quicksand, anything hardcore with breakdowns gets me going...also check out Burnt By The Sun and The Abominable Iron Sloth.
EDIT..i'm too lazy to list tracks..all these bands deliver as a full length anyway.

You guys should check out Oh, Sleeper. Download or buy from Itunes "To Flagship" and add it to your workout mix, it gets me jacked!

Loaded Rack by Overkill. Best wo song of all time IMO. Plus, how can you possibly go wrong with a song called Loaded Rack when you're looking for hardcore workout music?

Korns evolution song, and evanescence (sp?) c'mon man! You can do better for HARDCORE music ha ha, I'm in tears!!!
You want hardcore, go look for bands that ARE NOT on the radio. If you want some hard rock thats popular but nothing heavy or hardcore then stick with the radio, but I'm telling you man hardcore is not popular, some is but its not something you'll find on mtv everyday. Hardcore is a lifestyle choice, and some of the Christian hardcore bands I have total respect for them all. Its not just music to appeal to commercial radio or something that passes with other trends like hip pop and rap rock...its real music with real emotion.
