Kettlebells...Do They Work?
Anyone have experience with kettlebell training? I would like to hear your positive or negative feedback. Do they really have the powerful physical benefits they are said to have? Do they help with strength and conditioning?

They are awesome, we have them at my gym, once you learn to use them they can burn up to 3 times as much calories as the tread mill while giving your strength, toning and flexability, the woman at my gym who have been taught are simply amazed off the weight they are losing

very similar to DB's except the weight displacement and the tendency for the momentum to be helpful in olympic lifts like snatches etc... kettlebells are considered "more functional" as well.
i use them for:
1 arm cleans
1 arm jump shrugs
1 arm swings
farmer walks
walking swings
turkish get ups
you can do all kinds of "flashy" relatively pointless things with them too,
this vid is kinda neat: http://media.crossfit.com/cf-video/C...KBJuggling.wmv
you have to watch him talk for the first few minutes but it gets good.

Thanks so much! I'm glad to hear this.
I purchased a set a few years ago, but never really used them much. We have Steve Maxwell's Kettlebell 300 Challenge and I was watching it the other night and thought that I might like to start using the kettlebells again. Just wanted to know if others had experienced positive results from their use

Once I stopped being stubborn, and actually tried them for myself, I realized there really was something to them. Kettlebells WILL ALWAYS be a part of my training from now on. They're also starting to make their way into StrongMan competitions http://www.nastrongmaninc.com/pdf/en...007%20Nats.pdf Here's a forum dedicated to kettlebells exclusively http://forum.dragondoor.com/training/pos/0/length/30/

I bought one that I use as a supplement to Jiu Jitsu training.
It builds endurance in a way that nothing else in the gym can. It actually fatigues me the same way that grappling does. I love it.
Make sure you know what you're doing, though.....you can get hurt with them if you're not careful.

Been doing CrossFit on my off days and they throw in kettleballs fairly often. My plates have handles so I sub them in. Be surprised how quickly kettleball swinging with tire you out. If I wasn't already full up with my current routine I'd get a adjustable kettleball and goto town with it.

Love 'em - they've tricked me into working on muscular endurance- and have measurably helped me improve my V02max. Also, having them at home makes them so accessible that there are NO excuses to not doing a quick workout when you can't make it to the gym. After they began to collect in a corner of our condo, my boyfriend (who can be VERY sedentary) expressed interest in them and has since learned many exercises and is exercising more regularly now than ever before (except when he was in high school playing football, but that was a LONG time ago...)
12k (26lbs) is a great size to start with - have you seen this page?

Pointless? Kettlebells? I'm sorry those two words don't go together. I can't see the video as the link doesn't work but nothing at all with Kettlebells are pointless. It looks like its Juggling, and if you say it's pointless you've never tried it, it's RIDICULOUSLY hard, and destroys your muscles and cardio. After 5-10 reps flipping my 20k I'm about ready to fall over.
I'd say they're one of the most if not THE most important, useful, and amazing trainign tools out there. They develop strength, endurance, grip, cardio, and much more. You can't go wrong with training Kettlebells, as long as you know what you're doing.

So, where to start?
I've been looking at Dragondoor's books and DVDs, would they be a good place to start to learn the exercises?

Yes!! Pavel is one of the greatest Kettlebell, functional strength, minds of our day and age. I have yet to buy any of his DVDs, because I've been focusing on buying bells, but knowing what I know about Pavel from articles and various other sources I'm sure they will be spectacular.

Does anyone have a place that has good prices on kettlebells? They are definitely something I'd like to get into.

The best bang for your buck is probably from Lifeline USA
http://www.lifelineusa.com/IW_Produc...50?company=LIF
They're one of the highest qualities with a reasonable price.

Yeah dude no offense, but I'd say lifeline KBs are definitely worth the extra $10 per bell over Cap. The quality difference is pretty substantial, that is if krazykarl believes in quality over price. Cap aren't bad, I just don't think they're as nice.

I have adjustable kbs and I use them just like I would for db's. Great for mass in my opinion.

Diamond Delts...I have not seen the adjustable kbs, I will have to do a search for those. Thanks for the response.

it makes me laugh to see peoples ignorance towards kettlebells, as with any tool they can give you size and strength.

Weight has nothing to do with what you can start. Most adults though start at the 35lb range.
