how much sleep is too much sleep?
I LOVE TO SLEEP!!!! i can sleep anywhere anytime no problems. i used to have glandula fever when i was 15 and i still have cat naps during the day, when i finish work or on the weekend, usually for 2 or so hours.
i know your metabolism slows right down when you sleep but could having a snooze in the afternoon effect my weight loss in a bad way?

Actually the latest studies show that it's good for us to have naps.
If you have the latest edition of Oxygen it's in there. I'd type up some of it for you but I left it at work.
I think as long as you are not getting more than 6 - 8 hours of sleep all in one go you're fine.
Power naps are good for you.

i really could sleep all day if i wanted to. I swear i was a cat in another life, short bursts of insane energy but give me a comfy spot in the sun and i'm in heaven!!!!

I have no expertise in the area, but for me personally, if I get any more than 8 hours, I am dragging! 6 hours is about it. If I take a nap in the afternoon, it has to be less than an hour or I feel groggy!

I get 8 & 1/2 hours at night, then most days another 1/2 hour nap on an afternoon at about 2:30pm, I love my naps!

Well, personally I sleep very little (6-7 hours), but I figure if you sleep for over 8-9 hours a day, you're wasting valuable time..? Wouldn't it make more sense to sleep for 8 hours, nap for an hour (if that's what you like to do), and workout or do cardio for 2 hours, than to sleep and nap for a total of 11 hours..? Kinda common sense to me... of course if you're gonna spend those 2 hours binging on chocolate and watching TV, by all means: SLEEP!

Sleeping for too long can damage your circadian rhythm. The circadian rhythm is your 24 hour 'clock' controlled by a central part of the brain. Psychiatrists at the University of California, San Diego, found that people with the longest lives slept for only seven hours each night (Archives of General Psychiatry 2002;59:131-6). Why seven is the magic number is not clear. Sleeping more seems to be riskier than sleeping less, although less than four hours a night is also associated with increased mortality.

Sleeping pills, in contrast, might just take some days off your life. Kripke's group plans to conduct experiments to determine whether setting the alarm clock can lengthen survival.
But critics of the study hope it will not be overinterpreted. They point out that the enormous dataset--part of a cancer prevention study in the 1980s--was not specifically designed to analyse sleep. Insomnia was not defined, sleeping pills were not identified, and participants reported their own sleep behaviour in one hour increments, leaving little room for fine detail.

last night i slept 2 til 7 and then went to bed bout 12 and didn't get up til 7.
i just had to crash out or i was going to fall over. might be stress.
i've always thought the reason i am sooooo tired is because of my glandula fever way back when and the fact that my sleep is often broken every 4 or 5 hours.
there's so much controversial evidence its hard to decide what to believe.
will keep researching.

If your sleep is always broken then yes you will be more tired and you do need your power naps. There's nothing wrong with that all.
I think what the articles I posted are saying is if it's more than 8 hours unbroken sleep.

How recently have you had your iron levels checked? I am chronically anaemic, after I had my daughter (and had a three liter haemorrage) I had my levels checked and the doctor said he was suprised I could even get out of bed, let alone look after a new bub, work nights and run a household - he sent me straight to the hospital for iron injections (ouch!)
Apparantly the longer you have low iron, you get used to the affects and can cope better - but I'll tell you this, life is SO MUCH BRIGHTER when you have enough iron

Too much sleep is when you feel tired when you sleep longer, it's usually a result of low quality sleep so you try getting more to compensate. If you're oversleeping, force yourself to get up and you'll eventually get tired enough that your body will force itself into higher quality deeper sleep. Stuff like making it dark, comfortable, not eating heavily before bed, etc. can also help avoid interruptions.

I know that if I take a nap during the day, I won't be able to fall asleep until 4 a.m. Now that I am working out more, I have much more energy and it seems as if I need less sleep.

too much sleep? i wasnt aware there was such a thing...
your muscles do grow doin downtime tho, i believe, so extra sleep would be a good thing right? lol maybe not, but it sounds like a good excuse to catch a nap to me!
