Getting too bulky-what should my plan be?

I am in the off season and have added more muscle than I would like right now. So... do I stop weight training for a few weeks and just do straight cardio every day (right now I do weight training 6 days a week, cardio 7 days) OR only weight train twice per week (one day upper body high rep and the other lower body high rep) OR overtrain by continuing to weight traing 6 days but high rep everything? Any help would be appreciated. I am getting discouraged 'cause I'm a figure girl not a bodybuilder!

Losing muscle is easy, getting muscle is hard, so the situation that you are in is one that many aspiring figure competitors would be jealous of. It is probably not a good idea for you to stop working out altogether, for a number of reasons so here are some options you might like to consider:

1) Cut calories even further - if your intake is low enough your body will not be able to sustain your increased muscle mass plus you can lose some extra bf %'s on the way (not suggesting you need it).

2) If your calorie intake is already very low, you will have to use a combination of cardio (high-duration, low impact - so as not to over develop whatever muscles are used in the cardio exercise) and decrease in training volume. For now I would keep my rep count the same and just decrease the amount of weight used (as high reps can still stimulate growth). In this time focus on correcting any poor form you may have and developing your technique.

Hope that Helps.

Good Luck!!

You could try lower reps since they don't give you as much pump. Bodybuilders use that 8-12 range to really get big ... you could try like 12-20 reps maybe but less than 8 reps will definitly not give you as much size and won't take forever to do.

Thumbs up No worries

I know that you are very knowledgable about training but I would probably guess that when you say that you are getting bulky and too muscular. the only difference would be an increase in body fat, it has to go up from when you are competing. I the whole schem of things this is probably a good thing because since as soon as competition time comes around and your diet takes center stage your phisque will be brought to the forefront. If it still boths you continue to work on eating clean with the proper amount of calories (along witht the proper break down of macronutrients) and I believe your body will appear back to what you were hoping.
