TOTALLY agree here. In fact, this is my biggest pet peeve. WTF? if you are not strong enough to walk a few feet to the bench with the desired dumbdells, then you are lifting TOO heavy. Get the hell away from the dumbell rack so anyone else can get the equipment they need there.
Ah, yes, one other thing. Can't stand it when guys do curls in the squat racks. Afraid you're gonna drop it?? then you are lifting WAY too heavy....
best,
~lifer

This is one of my husband's pet peeves. He always says that the people who dress provocatively no one wants to look at, and the people who should be dressing that way, don't. He's always trying to get me to wear skimpier things to the gym - I tell him that I'm there to work, not to get noticed

My BIGGEST pet peeves:
I don't go to the gym to socialize...
I WEAR my IPOD for 2 reasons:
1. to pump me up and get me through my workout
2. so I CAN avoid talking
I am not a "B" but I have limited time as it is, and I am there to get in and get out.
Pet peeve #1 - when people make me take my ipod off to talk while I am in the middle of my workout!
Pet peeve #2 - when people tap me in the middle of a set and ask if I am almost done! Are you KIDDING ME???

I just find this one kind of sad:
The people that don't realize that the "Sweatin' to the Oldies" decade of wearing leotards and tights to the gym is over! And then there's "Hammer Pants Man" w/ the huge weight belt and chalkin' it up all over the place..
This is NOT a good look!!!

Yes! Why do people do this? Drives me nuts, especially when I make a point of using the treadmills waaaaaaay over in the corner, away from everyone and everything.

New Gym...New Pet Peeves
I just started going to a new gym today and for who knows what reason they keep all of the handles, ropes, etc. for the cable machines behind the staff desk so you have to go ask each time you need something, and they'll only give you 1 at a time! So annoying! I don't want to waste my time walking to the desk every time I need something!
It's a big switch going from the "hard core" gym I was a member of to a university gym. Nothing like college freshman doing endless bench presses or curls.
Oh and if girls lifting 5# weights or reading while doing cardio wasn't bad enough today I saw a guy lifting those 5s and another SITTING on a bike reading a book...that's right he wasn't pedaling!
The equipment is nice, it's a HUGE facility, and it's cheap...but I think next semester I'll pay the extra $12.50 a month to go back to a real gym!

The other day I actually had someone ask me to step aside so he could watch himself in the mirror curling 7 pounds. Are you kidding me?!

Got a new one, and sorry if it's sexist: really cut guys who wear loose baggy clothes so you can't see any of their muscles. I know, I know, but a little inspiration would be nice.

All of these are my pet peeves too, but today there was a good one...
There was a guy doing db presses on a flat bench that was VERY close to the squat rack, close enough that my butt would've been able to do box squats on the same bench.
As I walked past him to the rack (no, I didn't say a word, and I don't think I made a face, that he saw, anyway), he jumped up and moved the bench back with a ,"Does this give you enough room?"
Awwww....
but then upon leaving and entering the locker room, there stood butt-naked Bertha, in all her glory, and towel, which was only wrapped around her hair. Fortunately, my locker was on the other end; my friend, however had to squeeze past.

I agree with everything everyone has said. Except about the girls not wanting to get bulky. I don't have a problem with them staying fit, not ripped. But, I think maybe what your saying is that they can lift more than their cell phones and not look like a female ronnie coleman?

When the wife or kid throws/hangs/sets/lays anything on any of my equipment. Hello, I will be using that within the day thank you. It is not a clothes hangar/shelf/table/chairback/closet.etc.
Oh and girls can get as bulky as they like.

I can't stand that. I have a bench in the garage, and everyone seems to think it's a rack for anything but weights.

I think it's a common misconception amongst girls - they think that lifting weights means they're going to get bulky. If they only knew how difficult it was to get bulky. My husband's been eating everything that's not nailed down, and he still can't break 190lbs. Girls just need to realize that diet is the main component of bulking up - not how much weight you move.
But I think everyone in this forum already got that memo!

The stalker. You know, the guy that follows you around as you go through your workout. Towards the end, he decides to talk to you while you're in the middle of a set and tells you a better way to do things. Does he have any clue as to what I'm trying to accomplish?! Heck no! Mind your own business.
All the guys with terrible form-mostly on bicep curls that look like they're trying to go into a back bend. Ouch. They then think they can offer useful advice.
