Pete makes a good point. Ethyl Ester was big a few years back, now BSN is being sued over their Creatine Ethyl Ester products in a class action lawsuit.
I would avoid VPX's NO for now.
I loved SP250.
Nutrex's pre workout supps have been kind to me as well, but I havent used one for awhile so you may want to double check the ingerdients in those too.
For more on BSN's lawsuit look at Ironman mags writer Jerry Brainum's posts on the subject or google his name and BSN lawsuit. He has written about the BSN scam a few times. I avoid all BSN stuff now. Their products also have not lived up to label claims. I'm sure VPX is better run then BSN - but still be cautious.

There are so many questionable ingredients in this crap why even risk it when there are so many other pre-workout supps on the market??

I'm betting they'll eventually take it out in future versions.

that and that alone would be enough reason for me to steer clear of this product.

He would just be referring to all the 'Ethyl Ester' Ingredients in it i.e
Proprietary Branched Chain Ethyl Ester Amino Acid Matrix
L-Valine Ethyl Ester
L-Arginine Ehtyl Ester Di-HCL, L-Isoleucine Ethyl Ester HCL, L-Leucine Ethyl Ester HCL
Beta Alanine/beta Alanine Ethyl Ester HCL
To be honest the guy you talked to sounds like he doesn't know anything!
Mate you'll be fine with no-shot gun the worst side effect you'll get is spending money on the product that doesn't do a huge amount for gaining mass lol.
Just take it....it is fine!

Lol
Amen aint that the truth.
Not a slam of VPX, just supps in general. Honestly how many have you taken that really made a big difference?
For me I'd say Creatine (especially when I first used it in the early 90's), ephedrine (for fat loss), and just plain protein powder (more for convienece then anything else).
