Ran into this thread damn near first thing. lol I will post a pic tonight or tomorrow and get some measurements in here. I'll just give a brief history for now I guess...
I was always physically fit groing up. Months before I got married I was 5'-10", 180 lbs. and 8.5% BF. When I got married I basically put the job and family before myself. Long story short, I woke up one morning and was jabba the hut. Well, at least that's what it felt like. I guess it took my little brother (who had recently decided to start bodybuilding) to help me realize what I had done to myself. Listening to him just made me want to get back into the gym so bad I could taste it.
My profile picture is me at my worst this past December. I was 315 lbs. and felt like a slug. When I got my personal life in order (job, finances, etc..) I decided it was time to make a go of it. In March I signed on at the gym and hired a personal trainer for 4 sessions just to get my barings. Since them I have lost damn near 50 lbs., and am down to 266 lbs. currently.
If there is one thing I have learned though, it is to not obsess over the scale. I only weight myself once every two weeks. Anymore and I may get discouraged. Not to mention I could care less how much I way. It is body fat and inches that I want to see dissapear. Hell, if I'm 250 lbs. and 10 % body fat, I'm not gonna be complaining. lol I'll post more info when I have a little more time.
Good luck to all. It's not a temporary fix, it is a lifestyle change. You have to treat it as such to succeed.

Awesome!!!...You have made the choice to either live like a "slug" or live life to it's fullest...Keep up the good work and you will motivate others here too!!!...Congrats!!!...Repped!
I will never forget what my doctor told me a year ago when I went in for a physical for my Life Insurrance...She told me that I needed to drop the weight!!!...Plain and simple...I told her that my life style just won't allow it...I work 7am-7pm 5-6 days a week, I have a home that I have to take care of, and I have a family that I have to provide for...She said, "Exactly!...Do you wnat to provide for them short term or long term?...If you choose short term, you are looking at a possible heart attack in your early 40's...If you choose long term, and you make the life style changes that need to be made you will provide for them for a long, long time!"...I will never forget it!!!...She was absolutely right, I NEED to provide for them for the long term...

Well, I hope you are feeling better...I know I felt pretty good all day yesterday and I got home earlier then normal and I fell a sleep before 8pm...I slept like a baby all night and feel great this morning...My body must have been tired...

Every Friday night my family and I head up to Milwaukee for a get-together, and they always have amazing food, but it's never really good for ya! well last night they served SALAD! I had a big salad, lots of veggies on my salad, and a crap-load of fruit! it was amazing! i felt good that I was eating better!
BTW... When does this competition officially start?

well, got the first week done...
hey all, i just finished my first week on the program. my week was a little tough at the end, giving up soda's has been a tough challenge for me. i finally gave in last night, and had 2. oops. anyways, my week worked out like this
mon., wed., fri. - weights at gym 5x5 on machines full body, focused on reps and form, not necessarily weight. followed by 60 min cardio of cycling to and from work at an avg. of 15mph.
tues., thurs. - cardio of cycling to and from work at avg of 15mph.
trying to stay within 2000-2500 calories per day. kinda rough making sure the fats and sugars are at a minimum. i work in a fine dining restaurant inside of a hotel, so i'm always tasting, and snacking. i have to make sure i keep track of what i am eating though. the good thing is that i am excited, and i really like lifting in the gym, especially the adrenaline euphoria that comes after the workout. its great. i'm taking saturday and sunday off to rest and recover, it was a tough week. but monday will be here before i know it...

Well, I am on board if you will let me participate with you?
I wont be able to start till 02 Sept 08 . To many high calorie temptations right now:-( About 5 years ago I was up to 282 and in 3 months was down to 223.
Right now I am 6'2" 253lbs wearing 36/38 inch pants.I have a diet the seems to work for me. but, its tough to get the ball rolling. In the past all I did was eat low carbs high protien and lift,,,w/o doing any cardio. This time I am going to try the cardio. I read alot about ppl using diet logs to monitor food intake i did that last week for about a day. I have always trained instinctively and monitored my food intake in my head.
Thanks for starting this thread and i hope you dont mind my participation.

OK I'm in before the deadline.
I've put on a lot of weight this year. Last time I measured Iwas 167kg/ 368lb. I do eat cleanly, but 5 times a day! Got to cut down the food and keep up the cardio.

Just get though it start when we start. Doing this means changing your life not just the way you look but the way you eat. Learn to get through the temptations it will make things so much easyer. Think of it like this, its not that i cant have the cake or fried chicken exc. its that i dont really want them. After awhile that will become true, If you really want to drop the puonds do it with us all the way. hopfully i was kinda helpful and didnt just turn you away..

I eat 6 times a day i think most of us on here are doing that now. dont cut down on eating just cut down on portion size. Look around the forum and the net se what you can find about dieting know what your doing before you do it if atleast just a little bit.

I'm aware of the range of diets people are using, I regularly post in the nutrition section. The problem is portion size. I eat too much after 7PM, I'll just have to cut down on quantity & eat apples or a small amount of protein,

One thing that has started working for me is that after 5:30 (when I do a quick pre-workout fuel-up, fruit, juice, or likewise) after that, I restrict my diet to either a very low carb dinner or a protein shake. It satisifies me enough and makes it so I'm hungry when I wake-up, which is good to keep me eating breakfast. Just remember that everything has a price (calories), and you gotta spend more than you eat. Was suprised that fruits/ juices got a bad rap on this website, but in reality they are just sugar (juices) or sugar and fiber (fruit). Everything has got to work together and everything can be beneficial in moderation. Just find out what works for you.

I want to join
Hey everyone,
just saw this thread and i would also like to join in. Have tried to do some transformation contest in the past but always drop out. Didn't feel like i was getting help at all from anyone and also most of the people were bulking or getting cut. Think this contest if great because we are all on the same boat and want to reach the same goal. I know this time will be diffierent, because i will be taking a class at school and went back to the gym to renew my membership and see if i can talk to the trainer to help me start up a program. Wish me luck.
Miguel.

Count me in.
Will give pics later on. But I'm around 252.
9/1/08:
Height 6-1
Weight 250
Chest 49" (relaxed)
Waist 48"
Hips 42"
Arms 17" (flexed)
My goal is to be down to 210 pounds by my birthday, December 10. And then down to around 200-205 by the end of the year. I then plan on rewarding myself by buying a nice, custom fitted suit.
