Short Bio:
My name is Maria Olivas. I am 20-years-young and living in Fairfield, Ohio. For the better part of my childhood, I was overweight. I didn't get involved in any extracurricular activities because I hated the way the other kids treated me based on my appearance. So, when I got old enough to actually do something about it, I did. I started swimming and lost a lot of the excess bodyfat, but it wasn't until 2008 that I really got into weight training and started a new chapter in my life. I'm now training to compete in figure competitions with my eyes on a pro card! I plan on focusing all aspects of my life on health and fitness with a current career at GNC and future hopes of becoming a personal trainer.

Growing up I always wanted to be a model I was 5?8? 120 lbs at age 12 and stayed that way all through high school. But of course when I started college, life happed and I started noticing as I got older eating fast food and staying out all night was taking its toll on me. One day I was looking at a beach trip?s photos and I was repulsed by what I had allowed myself to become. So I started into fitness around the end of 2007, I was tired of the way I looked, I was squishy and weak and my clothes started getting too tight and I had enough. I started working out 6 days a week, I started paying attention to what I ate and in a matter of about 6 months I was in better shape than I was when I was in my teens.
Now I've started pursuing that modeling career I?ve always dreamed of going after and fitness has given me that opportunity. I feel better than ever, I feel strong and accomplished and think that even though life happens never give up on yourself or your dreams!

Ever since I was a child I have always been active. I can remember moving to a new neighborhood at the age of seven and hiding my hair up in a ball cap in order to pass as a boy so that I could play football and ride bikes with them! Later I became involved in gymnastics, dance and track. This year I discovered bodybuilding. For most of my adult life I have defined myself according to what others expected me to be. Fitness has given me the confidence to grow and assert who I am as a person. For me, being fit enhances the enjoyment of everything else in my life. I consider myself an athlete in the making, and I have never been happier!

Hello all my name is Caitlin Shahan and I am 22 years old and am pretty new to the fitness world and working out. I have always been active but never really considered lifting weights, until I met my boyfriend who was and still is very avid in working out. I would go workout with him, but while he lifted I just did cardio or group fitness. Then he talked me into trying to lift around January of this year, showing me the proper techniques to lifting and I fell in love with the feeling of having a "pump" and the rest is history. It's wonderful to have him supporting me and encouraging me everyday to strive and attain my goals. I just returned to Missouri State University this fall and I'm taking on a new major my senior year of school. I was a nursing major and now I changed to a BMS-Dietetics major. I feel like I would rather be apart of the preventative side of health care and have the capability to change people's lives before they end up in a hospital bed. Being healthy and fit from the inside out is my ultimate goal and to be able to help others achieve that would be remarkable. I would love to eventually be able to compete in the next year or two as my body progresses. I love training because I see such positive results in my attitude and physique.

Here are some pics that were taken this past spring 2008. I just recently had some new pics taken within the last 2 weeks unfortunately due to the National NPC schedule, North Americans August 29-30 and Team Universe Sept 5-6, I will not get them back till next week. I was labeled as an All-American girl growing up competing in gymnastics, track and cheerleading in high school and continued my athletic lifestyle cheering in college. After several years away from structured practices and workouts, I missed the rush of athletics. I still had the desire and drive to compete. Luckily I have met some great friends who have helped coach and mentor me to become a NPC Figure Competitor. As I continue to train, balancing gym time and diet with everyday life of work, family and friends is challenging, however, the rewards and satisfaction of achieving my goals is well worth all the sweat and sacrifice. You can accomplish great things if you just put your mind to it!

I'm a prime example that you CAN do it all. I'm a divorced mother of twin toddlers, I'm almost 30 years old and I'm in the best shape of my life. I have a demanding full-time job and a busy life and I still make time to workout, eat well and take care of my body. I fell in-love with this lifestyle at the age of 16, when I joined my first gym. It made me feel so strong. While other teens were doing what they do, I would spend hours a day in the gym. It became a real passion. I picked up my first bodybuilding magazine in 2001 and I was even more hooked. A fit, muscular physique is perfection! Entry for CONTROLLED LABS Calendar Contest

Hi everyone. My name is MC Barao. I was born in the Philippine Islands and grew up in Houston Texas. Being fit to me is the act of making today the best version of yourself.

I got started about a year ago auditioning for a local magazine searching for new talent. Being that this was my first competition, I didn't know what to expect. I saw tall and confident beautiful ladies. Here I was standing at 5'4" and nervous. At that moment I asked myself - how can I compete with such gorgeous women? I knew I couldn't change my height and face - the only thing I have complete control over is my physique. I started eating clean, replaced all my food with healthy options, got a gym membership and started getting educated in efficient workouts and supplement usage. Happy to say, I made it to the final round and placed 1st Runner Up!

Fitness has been the best life altering decision I've ever made. Everyday surprises me that I can feel physically and mentally better than the day before. I am working hard to carry that lifestyle into a successful career in the fitness industry.

Thank you so much for the opportunity to showcase my hard work and more importantly, helping a beautiful cause ♡
