I always soak one side of a dollar bill with syrup and put it on the table upside down so it looks fine.
I do the same with quarters.
Then I go to a new ihop for a few monthes.

3. When customers' dissatisfaction devolves into personal attacks, adulterating food or drink is a convenient way for servers to exact covert vengeance. Waiters can and do spit in people's food.
10. If you can't afford to leave a tip, you can't afford to eat in the restaurant. Servers could be giving 20 to 40 percent to the busboys, bartenders, ma?tre d', or hostess.
|
agreed on most all of them but these two the most.
3, obviously. Even if I can't stand the way my waiter is treating me, I will act like nothing is wrong, simply because if someone doesn't like you, they'll be more likely to mess with your food, but chances are no one will mess with the food of someone they like. And 10, definitely. It's kind of appalling sometimes to see how people don't tip their servers. I went to the diner with friends one time. There were 14 of us. Our total came to like $115. My meal was $10.50. All I had was a 10 and a 5, so I just threw both in and told them to add it to the tip. When we totaled everything up, there was $122. That means out of about $105, the rest of my 13 friends gave a ~5-7% tip.

exactly, i bought a burrito from this place that i always go to, i know the burrito is amazing so if i have 10$ and the burrito costs around 5 bucks then ill give theguy who made my burrito the extra 5 bucks, i mean im not rich or anything but ive been going to this place after i surf for a few years and hes always been super nice and always letting me off when im low on cash
there is tipping in dog grooming also, most of the time i dont expect the tip because then i wont be bummed out if i dont get it, but if the dog is a real pain in the ass then ill press the issue.

Sure, at your local Ihop this is most likely true. I am a SERVER not an order taker. There is a big difference. I take care of my guests and you see me about 30 times during your meal.

It's not a hard job. Hell, I have more respect for the guys who clean the tables after me. Those guys deserve a tip wayyyyyyy more than my server does.

Your tip gets "tipped out" to the bussers, food runners, bartenders, and sometimes hosts. So, essentially by tipping your server your are also tipping the busser too.

Who gets the bulk of the tip?
How do I know my server doesn't just put it in his/her apron and keep it? If I put cash on the table, I can only assume that the server or w/e pockets it.

lol at the capitalised "NEVER" - if your so dumb you can't get back on track with your little monologue if interrupted, I'm not sure you are deserving of payment full stop. What if your customer has a question about what your menu/specials?
|
"back on track/monologue?" you can't be serious. Everyone has questions! Just wait until it's appropriate to ask, not half-way through the specials. Before I take any order I always ask my guests if they have questions before they place the order with me.

Depends on the restaurant. Everything at my work, like most places nowadays, is computerized. At the end of my shift I print a "checkout" and it tells me exactly how much I owe the bussers, food runners, and bartenders. I then tip on TOP of that if they do a good job.

lol
The cost of the food rises with the cost of gasoline. How do you think that food gets delivered from where its grown to the restaurant. Also, factor in inflation. While you waiters are paying more for gas, us customers are paying more for the food.
Do you not understand the concept of a percentage? It takes into account other increases in price.

In the event that you get ****ty service by ALL MEANS don't tip 20%. There are so many horrible servers out there. I know because I work with a few. They are lazy, don't know the menu, can't handle more than 2 tables at a time, don't buss anything off the table, don't refill beverages until you have to ask, or they're just overall slow as a turtle and don't know how to multi-task. The reason I can make a living off of serving is because I give people exceptional service while being professional with a sense of humour. I'm knowledgable about the menu. I know the wine list and can describe characeristics and even tell how how the wine was made, who made it, and what menu items it would pair up with. I keep your diet cokes refilled so you never have to ask. I offer to bring you lemons with your water. I check up on you several times during your meal to make sure you have everything you need. I bring you fresh silverware between courses and crumb your table. I'm quick, but I space out your meal so nothing overlaps. When you finish your meal I offer to wrap up any leftovers and clear the table immediately. I give you an experience and that's worth something.

Obviously that's over 20% before tax, which is a good tip. Read my post about what servers deserve what percentage of tip, because it does differ. That was based on excellent service btw.

Tell me a good reason why the hell this country tips. No other country tips like America. Yet those countries still get EXCELLENT service. So maybe our service industry is lazy as ****. You don't go into Walmart and tip the low wage people there extra just for doing the job they signed up for do you? You get a paycheck like everybody else in America and somehow you're the only people who need motivation in $5 to do their ****ing job right? Bull****. Bull****.
Of course I tip 20% all the time. Just know I do it everytime because it's social norm not because I think you deserve it.
