Just hoping to freaking maintain (this sucks)...

Well, as some of you know, I have accepted a new job. I am just now looking at my training schedule and I will be in training and living out of hotels for 16 weeks! I know that you can still eat healthy and train while traveling but this will be a REAL challenge.

I will be in Hartford, CT for two weeks straight, then home for a weekend. Then I will be in Washington State for two weeks, then home for a weekend. Next will be Chicago, then Charlotte, NC and so on. It will be New Years before I am settled into my new place. Normally eating wouldn't be such a big deal but I am going to have to walk a fine line between being a health Nazi and playing the corporate political game since I will be spending my time with plant managers and VPs.

I am also hoping to peice together a decent workout from whatever workout rooms the hotels have. I will be SUPER happy if I am still below 220lbs (currently 210) at the end of the year.

On a positive note. Once I am settled down in Dallas, I should be able to build one hell of a workout room now that I'm single. I am planning on adding a squat rack and another olympic set to have one dedicated to the rack and one for the floor. I am also planning on taking my dumbbell set from 50lbs to 75s. The one thing is thats a LONG WAY AWAY...

If I were you I would start jogging a lot during your hotel stay and also, I would look into buying the P90x dvd set. You dont need much equipment and you can really get into shape. That could work for you. However, if you start doubting yourself like you are right now.....you will fail.

I've had jobs like that and if you do your homework you can make it happen, and even make it fun. I would normally call ahead to hotels in the area that I could stay in to find which ones had either gyms or, preferably, reciprocity arrangements with local health clubs...some of them you can work out free at the health club down the street with your key, or pay like $5/10. Or I'd just no kidding find a Bally's or something and pay the $20 to work out if it was all I could do. But it got fun working out in weird gyms, seeing what they had, I started to treat it like tourist site-seeing. Particularly of females.

The P90x looks interesting. However, I have a couple of things that might stop me there.

1. It says you need a place to do pullups? I am not sure I can install a pullup bar at a hotel.

2. I doubt I could do two pullups right now. I get the feeling this is a program for folks in better shape than me?

Pull Ups aren't the full program by any stretch of the means. There are couple guys on the boards who've done it and created threads. You might wanna message them; and ask. I'm sure you can adapt the workouts a little bit.

I wouldn't want to get suckered into a Bally's contract but smaller gyms should have a daily, weekly or monthly pass that non-members can buy.

As far as maintaining the diet, no doubt you may be eating out a lot of lunches and dinners with the plant managers and such, but every restaurant has either healthier menu items or they can prepare something off-menu if they're worth their salt.

The only problem I can see is cooking meats, but between packaged tuna and protein powder, you don't have to cook anything... albeit pretty mundane.
Maybe try to find hotels with kitchenettes? Or use the coffee hotplate or hair dryer to cook chicken Or better yet, stay at nicer hotels that have room service or concierge service and give them the task of preparing healthier meals for you.

Good suggestions but I am not picking my hotels, my new company is taking care of all that. I will normally be at a new location for two weeks at a time. I am thinking that I will buy a cheap foam cooler and ice for my room. That way I can keep meats. I am also thinking about investing in a really small Foreman grill. I think I have seen them that are about right for one chicken breast. That way I can cook chicken in my room at night. I'm sure the hotel wouldn't like that much but Ill just make sure to pack it away when I'm not using it. I am also going to look into the P90x program.
