i have a scott type american bulldog, but if i was to pick the most alpha breed out there as far as territorial and protective it would have to be a cane corso
Thats how i found my dog. I was looking for an APBT in the shelter though. He was the only dog that didn't bark at me. Just wagged his tail and came up to the door of his kennel. Then I took him for a walk with the Humane Society worker and he almost ripped my arm out of the socket lol.
That's pretty much what happened to us as in my wife and I , we we're really looking for an APBT but we fell in love with one at the shelter.

Pit bull attacks are blown way out of proportion, I used to clean pools and was never bit by anything, except the one time I was bit by a dachshund. I own a Pit and took him to Petsmart this lady with a GSD said I shouldnt have him in the store, my G/F then informed the lady that more German Shepards bite people every year when compared to Pit Bulls, the Vet at Petsmart also verified this fact to the stupid **** and she huffed and walked away. Pit Bulls were bred to fight dogs, but love humans, that is why they became more popular than any other fighting dog, The Shar Pei was bred to fight but also showed aggression to people so they could not be handled during a fight.

When I think if Alpha I think of being top dog, and dogs generally do this through fighting, so I'm going to have to give the alpha to the pits because they do this very well its what they were breed for. If the shepards where the best fighters you would hear alot more about them in dog fighting.
Not to take anything away from the breed though Shepards are, smart, and loyal dogs and make for great pets. I have 3 Pits, and if they are raised right they are very loyal, good pets as well. They wont give up for anything, they have the most drive and determination of any dog I have ever had.
Also alway wanted a American bull dog they just look really powerful.
And finally, this is the best dog EVER, he would go around helping people in trouble and move on to the next challenge....

''Tosas are one of the targets in modern dogfights; this is due to their impressive stamina, powerful bite and agility despite their large size. Their high price, however, prevents them from being used in great numbers in the US, like the American Pit Bull Terrier is. They are thought of as the greatest fighting dog breed in the world.''
Sorry, this thread is killin me... I think some are mistaking alpha for testosterone driven ego... sry rant. no wonder the bite and euthanism (sp) is soooo high... sad

Interesting... but reading further the type of fighting is more like sumo wrestling.... not fight to kill, in fact death is not allowed, this is actually a great example of how pack animals establish dominance or become alpha in the wild. Though with no referee so to speak death sometimes does occur

not to hijack the thread, but this is the most alpha dog I have owned, she is a cross Ridgeback/ mastiff although I suspect she has some staffy in her...
This was when she was a puppy, going to try and find a recent pic...

That's one of the dogs that my uncle has. It's cool as hell, and is great around his kids.
However, it's bark is the deepest I've heard from any dog. I didn't realise how deep it was until I knocked on the door when I didn't realise it was behind it. I near **** myself, as the thing could most likely tear me to shreds if it wanted.
Pyrenean Mountain Dogs are awesome also. My dads friend had one, and it destroyed a pit bull that tried to attack it. They're bred for guarding flocks from wolves and bears, if memory serves.
