I got my first one a few weeks after my 18th birthday. This past October actually. Just a simple Chinese symbol i liked and could relate to. you can see it in my avatar pic if you enlarge it. its on my shoulder.

Tattoo at 17 doesn't always workout tell us in 5 years if you still love it. Judging from an artistic point of view it's somewhat weak.

about the symbol. i choose that one specifically because it is more "affectionate" and because it means more along the lines of "dad" where as the other one, if im not mistaken, means more along the lines of "father". i just call him dad not father, never have said father.
thanks to anyone who liked it.
lol and yeah its a mirror shot, i.e. thats my left arm not right arm so the symbol is the other way.

its hard to tell in the pick but the chinese symbol is outlined in black and shaded in red. looks pretty solid.

I like how you just didnt get the symbol the tribal actually has meaning very nice!
Mines beginning to heal and is really itchy lol, but I fight the urge to scratch, once it's healed i'll post a new pic.

for chinese letters (called kanji) you can go into a tattoo shop and they have common ones in their books... or you can google a specific word. for me this was "chinese symbol for dad" and CONFIRM THE SYMBOL ON AS MANY SITES AS POSSIBLE. lol so that you know it means what it says.
im also getting a tattoo, chinese symbols, vertically down my side (from just below armpit down to waist) which will read "respect is earned". for this, i went to a site called char4u.com. cost 7 bucks, they translate it for you so that its gramatically correct in chinese. this is as opposed to using a free translator which just translates each word. this leads to grammar errors and someone who speaks chinese would be like wtf.
thanks for the compliments.

The side is not that bad actually. The collarbone area and shins are much worse I think.

Nice choice of words to use for a tattoo. I've been dragging my feet about getting mine because I can't make up my mind as to what I truly want to be on me for the remainder of my life.
Does it hurt much?

I haven't read everyone else's response, but I'm pretty sure they're all in the same ballpark...
The first one is the hardest to get, then the rest is just about feeding your newfound addiction. It's like striving to stick a few more 45's on the leg press you know?
Enjoy it...show it off...
awesome tattoo, by the way.

Nice ink bro, I have a tat on my left pec that has the last name I was born with, Williams, in the top banner and the last name I was adopted to, Huddleston, in the bottom banner. I am a part of both families and wanting someting that would show that, so I got the first letters of each inside each other. Its in my pics but is hard to see cuz it slides up when I pose, will try to get an unflexed pic up of it.
