Symptoms are so that I cannot train at all right now. Depending on what position I am in, pain in lower left ab/pubic area with occasional radiating pain to left testicle area. NOT pleasant to say the least!

This thing came on slowly, with only two incidents of acute pain. At first the pain was very slight, and I thought it was caused by wearing my lifting belt too tight. About two weeks ago, felt a slight tear in lower left ab area when stretching out with my hips lower than my shoulders. Also had the most acute episode of pain last Sunday while lifting my 6 year old daughter and turning under load. Ouch! Have not trained since last Thursday...

Very difficult mentally to get through this period. Extremely depressing. Not knowing what it is....not being able to train. Just came off a very heavy cycle where I was deadlifting heavier weights for more reps than I could do when I was in my twenties. Felt on top of the world. Will try to get in to see a hernia specialist next week.

Anyone have a similar experience with pain but no detectable lump?
i m having da same thing but its on da right side,i will stop my ab workouts for some time and see wats going on........

It took me about 6 weeks to start lifting again. No cardio beside riding the stationary bike.

I was really paranoid about ripping it open again so I didnt want to push it too hard but you know how that goes. Soon eneouhg I was pushing it and back to normal workouts.

I worked out really hard prior to my surgery so I could get the max benefit from the off time.

You will back in top form in no time.

It depends a lot on whether you have open cut or laproscopy surgery to get it fixed. I went the laproscopy route (tension free with mesh) because (according to my surgeon) I could be exercising the next day. This may be true in theory but in practice (probably thanks to the fact that they inflate your abdomen with gas to work better in) you will be feeling pretty beat up afterward and in my case I did not feel like working out till a month later.

If I were you I'd ask for an indirect repair, if you get an option or choice in the matter which under your health care I don't know if you do?

sounds like he waited 10 months for confirmation then doesn't know how long till surgery.

But like they say---this is the "USA", it will be different and better. LOL

None of you are making me feel any better. Yes, I've been in denial. Guess I'll go back to the doc and talk about surgery.

hi there! Had a right one done almost 2 years ago laparoscopically. what yo choose depends on who's paying and what your own job is. indeed, lap gets you up on your feet quicker but as lifting is concerned in neither method you should expect any lifting whatsoever before end of WEEK SIX (6). you wouldn't like to pull the stitches externally or weaken the internal repairs just because you can't wait! Follow this religiously. Not even cardio, walking is allowed. Cardio might eat up muscle and i suspected that is why i got it, was doing strictly only cardio for 5 years! Eat well and rest for your "return" after week six. see it as a time to rest for yoru body, you won't shrink. Ask what kind of mesh they put in and the size of it, what area it covers so as to avoid being in the 5% that recurs. get a mesh that is LARGE. Scars: LAP 2 small (one stitch each) and 1 larger (3 stitches) at the navel. on me one can see only the umbilical one, the other 2 are gone. Total, meaning no lap: longer scar at the inguinal area, takes more time to heal but again SIX weeks will be ok. Recurrence rates similar. latter type cheaper for you, more expensive for hospitals and more loss of time from work. your doctor shall tell you which one to choose depending on size of hernia sack. Easy stuff, do not worry too much. two years down the road, i don't even think of it any more. good luck.

PS not inteneded as medical advice and not as a substitute for a proper medical consultation DS

I get this burning sensation like 3 inches to the left of my belly button and about an inch down. My doctor has felt the area and has detected nothing. I know I've felt a lump about the size of a marble ... but it's intermittent. Wondering if it pops in and out.

dbx's comment about a "bubble" feeling or w/e seems close. This slight burning, but localized, feeling I know isn't normal.

I will say since I lowered the weight on my deadlifts due to an injury that the feeling doesn't happen that often.

My personal experience is that many, many doc's (even surgeons) miss alot of hernias. This may especially be true on folks with a thick abnominal wall. I finally went to a regular old family doc who found my second hernia. He sent me to a surgeon who at first couldn't locate it, but who ended up doing the surgery. It turned out to be a bad one and since it was done as a direct repair it ended up tearing again and I had to have that side fixed for a third time later on.

My advice ALWAYS have an indirect repair DO NOT let them do an old fashioned direct repair, I've had two and both blew out.
