Who mainly works out at home?
My friend said to me that my home exercise regime is pants and I'll only loose weight if I join the gym? Errr? I was really offended by that because right now I don't have ?48 a month for membership!
I enjoy skipping, jogging and using my exercise bike at home and I find I get a great, intense workout without feeling that people are staring at me! I even use my brothers weights and have a body pump session listening to the music I want to listen to!
Is there any logic in what my friend says or can you have an effective workout at home?

Heck yeah. I work out at home. Just gotta have the determination, be safe because you don't have spotters. And have the right equipment..

I only work out at home and I've made tremendous progress in doing so. I don't have the money to spend on a gym membership at the moment and working out has proven to be very convenient for me. And I agree with the above poster that said you need to have determination and be safe while lifting (and also have the right equipment which can be pretty basic). To me, it sounds like you can get all the workout you need with what you have. And you can always pick up more equipment later if you feel what you have isn't giving you enough of a workout. Don't listen to your friend in regards to this, there are a lot of people who have made lots of progress with at-home workouts.

Screw 'em. At least you *own* the equipment you use, right? Right. I *own* that squat rack and all that. No telling some twit to wipe their funk off the weight bench. It's MY funk and I'll wipe it off when I'm damn good and ready!

lol - ew!
I dont see a reason why you cant get the exact same results from home than you can in the gym. As a previous poster said - you just have to keep motivated and thats it.
I probably couldnt work out at home - too many other things bekoning me, like the kids or washing or cleaning - if I'm at home I feel guilty doing this for me. But if I take the time out to go to the gym then I workout as hard as possible for that time.
But it is gross about the 'funk' on the benches lol

Some of the best physiques in history were made in home gyms and many began in one.

I not only train at home, I trained for a contest too! I have just enough stuff to do a variety of exercises. What is most important is being consistent with your training and giving it your best effort each time. Without that, you can have access to all the best equipment out there and still achieve nothing.

Working out at home I think is way better...you can take your time, keep your focus, turn up you OWN music and not worry about who is watching you get all sweaty! Plus, that equipment is YOURS....you know you are the only thats going to use it. I'm kinda OCD about my stuff, so owning my own equipment makes me feel sooo much better.

I work out at home too. I like it. I've never been able to attend a gym for long enough to see the results I wanted. It's also a lot cheaper (at least for me, because I prefer free weights anyways).

This has got to be the single greatest benefit of working out at home.

X100000!!! If I had known, what I know now, I could've saved $10K bucks in expensive equipment AND saved myself a ton in UNUSED gym memberships!....all you really need are some good videos/exercise routines, a set of adjustable free weights (which you can get cheap from thrift store), and a bar! That really is all...and you could have the bod of an olympic bodybuilding champion! True story.

I have a home gym with nearly everything I need (with the exception of a squat rack, but that's coming). I find it a lot easier than going to the gym because 1. I save money, and 2. I can just roll out of bed, lift, do some cardio, and then get ready for work.

check out amazon for cheap squat racks. i got one for just over 100 bucks and its very sturdy.
my home gym was pretty cheap to put together. 300 for a bench w/standard weight set up to 150, 120 for the squat rack, 20 bucks for a pullup bar, 60 bucks for a dip station, 25 for a dip belt, and the extra plates & DBs i bought only as i needed them. my apartment has a crappy gym w/only machines and cardio equip, so im all set for cardio. wouldn't have it any other way.

I started off pretty simple, with a pair of adjustable dumbbells and a swiss ball. The dumbbells I have are these:
http://www.amazon.com/York-Chrome-Ad.../dp/B0012QX26K
You can find something similar at Walmart, Target, or Sears. I bought my swiss ball at Target and used it as a "bench" for flyes, presses and anything seated.
Doing upper body work was easy enough with just this equipment since db's offer a lot of variety for chest, back, shoulders, biceps, and triceps. I also used the db's to do lunges and squats for lower body. Once I needed more weight for my legs I bought an e-z curl barbell and some 10lb and 25lb weight plates. With this, I could do front squats for my quads (picked the weight up from the floor) and stiff-legged deadlifts for my hamstrings.
Let me know if you have any other questions. As you can see, there are plenty of ladies here who train successfully at home. You can too!

This site has a GREAT section called Exercises that you can use to get ideas about home workouts! http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/exercises.htm You can select the muscle group you want to exercise, and then for the equipment type select ?Body Weight Exercises Only? or if you have access to dumbbells, barbells, and/or cables you can select those exercises, as well. I love this section of the website and use it all the time.
