no the fructose in soda isn't differnet, but when talking about the amounts involved it's hyperbole to try to compare eating a few servings of fruit a day to downing a few big gulps of soda.
and I ask again, how often is liver glycogen full during a caloric deficit?

How many carbs are you eating? that's the key.

That's quite enough similarity for me. The deleterious effects of fructose are beyond dispute; and any affinity you've happened to develop for fruits does not diminish those ill effects one bit.
Of course one can shed fat while consuming a diet that includes fruit, but does the fruit assist one in becoming lean? Absolutely not. Is there the slightest bit of logic in an obese person consuming fructose? No. Is fruit indispensable? Of course not.
Why then the insistence that fruit be consumed on a cutting diet, when the nutritional density of greens far exceeds that of fruit?

Hopefully the effects of fructose from fruit vs fructose from empty calorie junk food (or even worse than empty calories ..soda pop) gets cleared up in the future.
You know it wasn't that long ago people made blanket statements like "avoid saturated fat". There are caveats to everything.

You said yourself: the fructose from fruits and soda pop is the same. It's potential to raise triglycerides is the same.

The blanket statement in this case is that it is never warranted or wise to eliminate fruits from one's diet.

Fruit only gets on my plate the evening before carb-up, before my last workout. I eat 5 pieces and all my fruit cravings are gone for the cycle.
Each and every fruit has it's purpose: grapefruit, blueberries, apple, raspberries and banana.

For **** sake people. Do you really think it's that apple a day that is making Johnny obese? Maybe it's those damn blueberries and their excessive calories.
This really isn't rocket science. Eat your fruits and vegetables. I know some of you are going to complain about all the fructose. Any sugar, in large enough quantities, will make you gain weight. But just how much fruit would we have to eat?
Quote:
|
Fructose is an insulin-independent monosachharide. This means that it converts into glucose and is stored without the action of insulin (or, at least, insignificant amounts). Fructose doesn't cause a large rise in blood sugar and, consequently, won't raise insulin levels. For you to experience any negative effects from fructose, you'd have to consume around 50-75 grams in a sitting; that's five to seven apples, one after another. You'd have to eat three or four of these "servings" a day, for a grand total of 15-28 pieces of fruit.
|
I will agree that if you are getting ready to step on stage, and every calorie matters, cutting fruit is acceptable. But that is the only time I can think of.

yes but if you want to talk about max definition, check out chickentuna... i'd say that's defined... she confirmed... daily fruit intake when i asked her!
i find it easier to stay on my meal plan when i eat fruit... so to me it's a better choice than the snickers bar i'm going after if i don't eat it everyday! yum!

I don't eat fruit (or much veggies) on a regular basis anymore because it makes me too full.

I love these conversations.
Of course someone doesn't need excessive anti-oxidants to survive but I have never heard of anyone complaining of fruit not being filling.
The flipside is that fructose sweetened snacks and cola don't seem to affect appetite the same way.
Most of the stuff I have read lately has correlated soda pop consumption with increasing rates of obesity. (This doesn't suprise me considering something loaded with carbonation and phosphoric acid is not even close to a strawberry or banana despite the fact they both contain fructose)
P.S. I am not the type of person to say that only fruit should be eaten for carbs. I just think in general it has gotten a bad rep via the fructose connection with junk food.

Same here. I don't have room in our stomach for negligible calories from green vegetables and fruit. I rather stuff my face with meat and potatoes

Another thing to consider about fruit (berries, apples, oranges, etc) is that the stuff grows passively in nature.
That means as humans were evolving whoever had biochemistry most adapted to use this stuff could accomplish the greatest amount of survival based tasks (ie, work) and thus reproduce.
Even though fruit grows seasonally I still think this would hold true to a degree. So whenever it came into season it was a boon to whoever could use it the most efficiently.
EDIT: When I mention "efficient" here I mean using the fuel inside the food for the purposes of oxidative phosphorylation (ATP production via the electron transport chain) rather than lipogenesis. That is a better way of handling calories for the purposes of accomplishing work.

I dont think its that they get fat I think its more like they have a hard time losing fat that is already currently on their body...i think thats what they mean which is why a lot of BBs DO cut fruit out of their diet when they cut

fruits are amazingly great for you, and i think that the only time a person should stay away is when they are on a keto. other then that they should be implented into your everyday diet.

I can't count how many "critique my diet" threads contain little to no veggies/fruit on these boards, it astonishes me. Yeah, i understand bulkers want more calories dense foods, but veggies/fruits are fundamentals in a diet. I eat 3-5 fruits a day and 1-2 servings of veggies.
