Should people keep their opinions to themselves?
I'm 19, work full time & live by myself. I dropped by the market with my boyfriend to grab a couple things, i wasn't grocery shopping. I got a couple staple things like greek yogurt, veggie burgers. He made an uproar because apparently i'm wasting money on things i "don't NEED to have" when i should be buying cheaper things that aren't "stupid" and "do the same thing".
Him- "greek yogurt you don't need, you can spend the same amount of money on chicken"
Me- "i like it cause it's quick."
Him- "well you can cook chicken and keep it in the fridge for other meals"
Me- "who cares i like how i tastes and i'm running out of food with alot of protein so i'm getting it"
Him- "i love Ferrari's but you don't see me spending every dime i have on one. there's plenty of sh*t you can buy without spending as much"
Ughhhhhh.

At this point I assume you are only responsible for your own finances and that you and your boyfriend are not sharing expenses. If that is the case and your staples fit into your own budget then get what you want to eat. Before we got married and bought our home, my husband and I both bought the food and supplements we wanted. Once we added in a mortgage and the other expenses that come with owning a house we had to revisit what we purchased and how necessary some of it was (ie no more spending $500 a month on supplements).
Is there a reason he is concerned about where your money is being spent? Are you both saving for something (vacation etc), or are there joint expenses?

Yeah, I get the same thing all the time. My co-workers are especially bad at lunch, when I will pay more for a alternate side item (who wants french fries) or salad. Or going grilled alwys costs more. Maybe he hasnt seen the light?

We're not sharing expenses. Ive been laid off most of July and i start again in Aug. So i can understand why he's looking at how much i spend. But what else am i suppose to buy! He's mad because refusing to change my eating habits is "immature". He then brings up how he cooked pasta dishes for me and i ate them. I said yeah because i had nothing else to eat. He says, well you're body hasn't changed from eating different food. Because i don't eat that every day!
Some people will never get it.

You don't even want to know my response to this one, lol...
It's pretty much along the lines of "Well, I don't *need* you either but..."

Greek yogurt IS pricey...cottage cheese has basically the same macros and you can even blend it up for the right consistency! Canned tuna and chicken is always cheap and I always shop around for cheap chicken!

Hahahahahaha i love it.
My staple foods include greek yogurt of course, canned tuna (i always have a million in my fridge), frozen veggies (i LOVE broccoli, eat it every day), veggies to make salads, chicken, etc.
I don't see what's so immature about that. I know i'm picky with food but he turns it into something else. Then he turns that into me being negative and not appreciating his advise! Pfffffft!

Sounds like mine too.
He lives off pizza. And doesn't gain an ounce. He thinks my body and metabolism should work the same.
He always says I could get 2 pizzas for the cost of a days supply of chicken.
I tell him to shut up if he ever wants ass again.
He does. Lol

Another thing ya should point out to him is that yeah, you're spending more money to eat healthily (which includes VARIETY; yogurt gives you protein AND calcium, unlike chicken, for instance) but you could be spending money on worse things.
And, people who like to bitch about how much more expensive it is to buy healthy foods should really stop to think about how much more it would cost them (financially, as well as other things) to just eat whatever, end up obese, with high cholesterol, heart problems, or diabetes (or a few of those things!) and have to shell out for medical expenses.
Geez. Why am I so fired up about this?? LOL
Probably cuz he reminds of how my boyfriend is sometimes.

"Well, now that I'm no longer your girlfriend, you might want to look into rebudgeting for one..."
Can you please post 3 very specific things that are good about your boyfriend (you don't really have to )? Because anyone who would argue with me over the cost of friggin' yogurt (and compare it to a luxury car) that I'm spending my own money on would automatically be on my **** list. What a stupid, petty thing to start an argument about.
