I went to a Christian High school and before we went on our Senior Trip they had a service early in the morning where we were recognized by our careers we would be pursuing. When they got to me they mentioned Law Enforcement some kid yells at MMM BACON SUEY PIG. A girl yelled it lol

when you start your career you hear that all the time. I like when they are in the back of my car doing it after an arrest. Then I take them to the jail and for some reason they are not so tuff anymore.......hmmmmmm

A couple agencies down here allow you to apply at 19, I am going to do that, while I do my classes for my AA online at a CC. I want to be an LEO so bad, but I also understand a degree is always good to have. I emailed Florida Highway Patrol and a couple Sheriff's departments already.

I understand about the degree, it is always good to have, but from my experience I went to Pharmacy college for three years (for the parents) before i finally gathered up enough courage to say I want to be a LEO. I have more than enough credits so I have taken the written exams for the NYSP(92.12) and NYPD(no results yet)
I can't wait either.

Nice nice, I eventually want to end up at a sheriff's department. Orange County Sheriffs Department is my end goal.

Have any of you guys been to the LEO memorial in Washington? I've seen some renderings and pictures, but have never had a chance to get to it yet. Just curious.

i have never been there but some friends go for Police week. you need to go, DC has about 100,000 off duty cops walking the streets

Yeah I have been there and its amazing and sad... Like stated earlier it's pretty cool when you got a 100,000 or so cops walking the streets for cop week there..

Not at all, I used to dream about it also my entire life growing up. It's in your blood and thats great. It's the reason you will make a great police officer. By the way you will be repped when I recharge..

My girlfriend/mom hate the fact that I want to become a LEO but heck I constantly think about it, and you know your gut feeling when something is the right choice? Seriously, I get envious of patrol cars driving by me because I am stuck on some mundane task while they are going to some crazy, exciting, difficult, thought provoking call.

I will seriously check cars for infractions as I drive down the road, I've seen numerous expired tags, brake lights, lack of turn signals, rolling through stop signs, my gf thinks I am sick in the head lol

Explode, very much so lol. I put in for 2 ride along requests to quell the excitement

5 agencies around me are 19

I am applying to Florida Highway Patrol, Brevard Sheriff's Dept, and Winter Garden PD. The other 2 are kinda a backup I don't want to use because they're so far away.

My best option is FHP, they pay you and send you through their academy. However if the other two agencies sponsor or would hire and let me self sponsor I would do that. Alot of praying on my end, I drive like 5 under the speed limit because I want to keep my record clean lol

Sounds like your right on track... FHP would be cool, I met a couple of them at police week in washington D.C.

Rob, take whatever you can get, then in the end transfer to what you want. Hardest part is getting your foot in the door, but once its in, you can kick it open. Good luck on that though, I remember that feeling.

Agree with this completely. I took many LE tests here before getting Chicago.

what keeps you motivated to do what you do?

have any of you guys killed someone before?

I'm looking at joining my local Police force. Always felt it was right for me, but waited some years to make sure I knew it was the right thing. I'm now convinced and will be soon going through the interviews.

hey i was wondering how long it took all the LE guys here to finally get into an academy, because ive sent out.. i dunno howmany apps to state and local depts and i havent even got a call back for a physical testing... so were going on about 2 months of applications and emails back and forth from recruiters.
BA in Criminal Justice
No criminal Record at all

From the time I filled out the application to the 1st day of the academy it was about 23 months.. Yeah it takes some time unfortunately...

You can always self sponsor if you want to jump right into the academy, but they're definite benefits for the agency that hired you to sponsor you.

That is pretty odd to have gone that long, my longest was 3 weeks before hearing back from someone..... you should try giving their HR department a call and talk to them about it, you know, give them a gentle reminder.
