As for the school itself, if your an officer, and you branch Infantry you will go immediatley after all other training. The majority of Infantry officers have Ranger tabs (School tabs). Now to become a true Ranger and serve in a Battalion is a whole other story.
Now don't think you have to be Infantry to go to the school or serve in a Bat, there are many Ranger MOS's, and most MOS's can attend the school. You asked for the fastest way to get the school, and with out a doubt its Infantry, or another Combat Arms MOS.
|
So if I were to branch Infantry and get through the training and serve in a Battalion, would I be able to choose a new MOS or would it pretty much be assigned based on what I went in as? I'd honestly like to gain experience with an MOS similar to what I graduate with (which will probably be chemistry, possibly engineering if I decide to go back), so I'll have experience when I'm out that'll apply to jobs I'd try to get with whatever degree I have, but I want to do it as a Ranger.

Like I said, Infantry is "one of the quickest" ways, not the only way. However it is difficult to change your branch once you enter, I am unable to tell you the steps of that because I am not an Officer (yet).
Now, question here is what MOS were you looking for without thinking about Ranger on this question?
I understand and see what you are trying to accomplish, and I will be getting these questions to a Tabbed Officer buddy of mine, if there are no MISC Officers in this thread to help you out sooner.
This guy should be able to assist you more, and I know he will want to know what MOS you are looking for.

If your ROTC program is half decent then you will be able to go to Airborne school through them, regardless of BCT/AIT.
You don't need to be Airborne qualified to go to Ranger school.
Infantry Officer = automatic Ranger school.
If you want to stick along your degree and become a Chemical Officer, then you might get a slot at Ranger school, but it is doubtful you will ever serve in the 75th.

Without thinking about the Rangers, I'd like to go in as 35-Military Intelligence Officer, because my main goal, if everything goes how I've planned, is to join the FBI when I'm out. I was thinking of 74-Chemical Officer, but there aren't many civilian jobs directly related to that position, and like I said, my primary hope would be to enter the FBI, where intelligence experience, military experience, and a four year degree would almost guarantee a spot.

Obviously, your best choice for getting into Ranger school is to request Infantry as your career branch. Most IN officers go to Ranger School around the time they make CPT. From a Army perspective, that tab does not mean a whole lot unless you are wearing a Ranger scroll on at least one of your arms. It just means you sucked it up and graduated from the course. There is a high demand for tabbed MI officers in Ranger Bat's, I assume that is a trend that will continue.
Of course you can apply to the 75th from just about any career branch, and once you get there, you WILL go to Ranger school. Plus the 75th is a good unit to serve in, especially if you are interested in working for SOF units.
You also need to keep in mind, that as an officer you really can't hand out in one unit for longer than 3 or 4 years. Anything longer than that and it hampers your career progression. One of the good things about enlisted guys, is that once excepted into a SOF unit, you can stay there most of your career if you wish, and it improves your progression in rank.

They can be the cruelest mistress though if not tied right... they like it VERY intimate and anything less is completely unacceptable.

Depending on the scale I think, don't quote me on this. I took the ASVAB for the Navy and Army (ended up Army). My scores were weird for the Navy but for the army my GT was 114. I studied for the ASVAB the second time around the lowest line score I had was 108. I've seen scores as high as 140. 121 for a 13 banger must ahve did it for the bonus money.
