Comments:
Starting to feel the strength coming back and the intensity as well. Somewhat disappointed with CG bench though. I was pressing about 185 for reps until I took a "vacation" from all of this. Patience.
On another note......as I'm prepping for rack pulls, this pretty big 20 something is heading my way and I can tell he's a PL type. He had the belt, bag, etc. and he you could tell by his bulk he could lift. I continue getting ready. I see hiim mouth something toward me, pull off the headphones and he's asking what I have left. I tell him two sets. He says okay and comments "nice weight you got on there". I say thanks, headphones back on and proceed to pull with him egging me on to get keep lifting. I get 8, I unstrap, turn and he's got his hand out to give me a fist pump.
It's the little things in the gym that get this 40+ old man to smile!

Hey Chuck,
Stop in any time. No problem with the help at all. Someone gave me some guidance so the least I can do is give back.
Thanks for the kind words. There's some folks around here though that lift much more than I do.
See ya round
Ed

Nice work. That CG bench will come back. Just think of how cool it will be as the numbers go up and up and up each week.
Great story about the 20something PL guy. That should be your biggest sign that you are back!

Some big jumps in weights mate, the strength is coming back quickly.
Cool story, it's those sort of events that just give a bit of a spark to your day.

Honest! Thought of you and Shelli about a week or so ago when up Tewksbury way. Need to get in touch and work out up your way some time soon. I hired Skip from over at IM to help me out over 6 months starting in September.
Once summer ends and I get going with Skip, I'll give you a shout.
Hope the family is well and say hi to Shelli for me.
Ed

Comments:
Strength definately returning. Still going to be patient with everything to be sure my form stays in check. That's what ruined me over a month ago. I hit a wall with the weight I was pushing/pullling all because of bad form. Lesson learned. Eveything done with a very controlled negative. Looking forward to what the next few weeks should bring.
Nutrition:
Actually eating pretty okay lately especially today. Trying not to overindulge on some foods but I'm not committed to an firm plan until September.
Mood (1-10): 8
Good day today and yesterday. My LL Travel team lost game 1 of a tournament but almost pulled it out. Tying run got caught at the plate to end the game. Team we faced was a higher caliber club but my guys have been resilient all year. Fun stuff!

Skip will not only whip you into shape but he'll make you pimp his Team Skip shirt... make sure he sends you one.
When I was working with him he sent me an XL and told me I'll fit into it soon as I wash it and keep eating lol. Mines all beat up to hell by now but I still wear the sweaty old thing to remind me to keep trying to fill it out to the max.
Lookin good in here Ed!

Really happy with how I'm approaching this blast by keeping strict with my form. The #'s I'm doing now are not what they were a couple months ago but because I'm keeping good form my body isn't getting all the little dings it did before which impacted my ability to not only lift but make progress.
My only concern about taking this approach is that I would be somehow short changing myself but so far so good. My deadlifting is on pace to go past weight I was pulling a few months back doing sumo where I'm doing conventional this time.

I think this is the key Ed, when I tried doing low reps a while back and my form got a bit ordinary I had a lot of these "dings", now I have none (runs for wood and touches it for good luck). I get my intensity from other ways, such as static holds, negatives, rest pause, etc.
Hope all is well mate, hanging out to hear from you when you start with Skip

Thanks Al! Start with Skip in September which is why you might see some of the disinterested comments about my current nutrition. Trying to get all the crazy eating in now knowing what September will bring.

Vacation went pretty well actually. A little struggle the first week but second week was much better. Took me till Wednesday of this week to get back into the "work groove".
Back lifting as of yesterday and starting my work with Skip from IM this week. 6 months of what I hope to be pure hell and heaven all wrapped into one.

Well....I'm back....again!
Just came off a two week vacation with no workouts and my workouts the weeks before were sporadic at best. As a result, my strength is down from where it was two months ago. Little frustrating but need to get over it.
Hired a trainer for the next six months for both training and nutrition. Very reputable trainer/competitor from IM.com so I'm pretty psyched to get going. Back at it as of this past Wednesday and hit it again today. This not DC training that I've been doing so set up may look the same but workouts are very different. Everything is done to failure on every set.
Away we go........
Wednesday's workout......
Chest and Triceps - 1A (Week 1 - Day 1)
TT = this time
LT = last time
Hammer Strength Incline Press
LT - N/A
TT - 220 x 12
HS Decline Bench
LT - N/A
TT - N/A
Hammer Strength Shoulder Press
LT - N/A
TT - 130 x 10 / 130 x 6
Cable Side Laterals
LT - N/A
TT - 45 x 11
Hammer Strength Seated Dips
LT - N/A
TT - 220 x 13 / 220 x 9
OH DB Extensions
LT - N/A
TT - 70 x 11
Cardio:
Treadmill
3% Incline
3.2 speed
20 minutes
Comments:
Tough workout coming back after two + weeks and very frustrated with weight (or lack thereof) I was doing but it will come back. Not much else to say other than my conditioning needs to improve with higher rep sets.
<Supplements taken today>
True Protein No-Holds NO
True Protein 'Xtend'
Acetyl L-Carnitine (pre/post)
Vitamin B Complex
Creatine mix (pre/post only)
Multi-Vitamin
True Protein Whey - Forbidden Punch
Until next time.......Ed

None today.......
Comments:
Ugghh.....my conditioning sucks at this point. I lost my breath on squats before my quads gave out. It will adjust though. Used a box just below parellel to be sure I was getting down low enough. It's been awhile since I've done straight squats. SLDL's were tough to do with my quads getting the work they did. Everything else was good.

I think it would take more than 6 months to get this fat arse shredded but if he can pull it off......I'm all for it!

Is Skip advising with your training as well, or do you have another trainer?

So it's low volume high intensity.
Are you still doing static holds or extreme stretches?
Can you give us some more background behind the workouts?
