Bob, where do you think bodybuilding popularity is at right now? And how would you say that relates to 10-15 years ago? Part of the reason I ask this is because there used to be bodybuilding and weighttraining shows on some channels, and Im pretty sure ESPN. It seems like the industry is making some strides within itself (like better pay at big events), but Im sure with your travels and vast experience you can shed some better light on this.

And seeing as how you are affiliated with some sort of players union (I forget your exact position, but I believe it was some sort of representative position), where are you trying to take bodybuilding?

Finally, what's you answer to the question, "is bodybuilding a sport" and why?

My question is how much to eat, protein, carbs and fat. I dont have access to a lot of the stuff you guys have there. Not to mention that I have no stove, just a hot plate, so everything has to be boiled or fried. No BBQ either. I cant count calories cause nothing is labelled here and the portions are different sizes. I do take supps but I prefer whole foods. What would you eat in a typical day when bulking??
hmm time for a new country?? i think as long as u weigh ur stuff out u should get a pretty good indication of what calories it contains:

http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/nutrient.htm - Try this page; u can search all this almost any food on earth on this thing lol

As for cooking it? im not sure; u really should be grilling ur stuff, coz frying is not good and boiling takes all the flavour out; maybe build a fire?? (although u probally live in a city so thats no good)

well good luck for ur show next year

(no hijack bob)

To the guy in China, if you have a hot plate, can't you just cook the chicken on a skillet on the hot plate? And you can boil rice. Any meat can be cooked on a skillet (fish, chicken, steak, ground meat, turkey, etc.).

At a seminar given by Victor Martinez this weekend, he said he didn't start seriously taking protein powder until 6 years ago. He got all his protein from whole food meals. Eat lots of meat and rice (pretty much what I eat anyway).

Thanks for the help but unfortunately the hotplates here will not work unless the whole surface is covered(too many people burning their houses down) I dont mind eating food that is boiled, tastless food works for me. I am looking more for a how much to eat. Like a sample day, I can substitute from there.

I just had a few questions.

1. Is dumbbell better than barbell?
I feel pain in my shoulders sometimes when i do barbell military presses. I dont feel that pain if I am doing it with dumbbells.

2. Does barbell give you more mass than dumbbell?
I have heard from few people that using barbell gives you more mass because you can lift more.

3. does stretching before or after your workout make a difference in to your workout or your muscles? does it matter if you stretch or not?

I guess you're going to be boiling your chicken and fish then. Get a food scale and weigh out your food. I think about 8oz of meat has about 50g of protein in it. Eat however many ounces of meat you need split into 6-7 meals throughout the day to equal 1-2g of protein per pound of bodyweight. Then start piling on the rice at each meal. That other guy sent you a link to the number of protein/carbs/fats in foods per whatever serving size you set it to, so go check that out, and weigh out your foods after cooking.

Hey Bob,
As far as stretching goes I normally do it after I workout, but sometimes I feel like I need to stretch before. Been told that you should never stretch before you workout.

Maybe try some dynamic stretching pre-workout and static stretching post-workout

Hey Bob

From watching vids like War For The Worlds etc. it seems like there is lots of respect between you and your peers, like Jerome Ferguson for example.

I wondered if there were any of your mates whose physique you admired above your own, or is the Chick happy with Fortress Bob after all the years of sculpture?!!

There are physiques I admire quite a bit....Phil Heath, Jay, Ronnie, Dex....DJ, Joel Stubbs for his sheer size, Silvio.....I've known a lot of people over a long timeline....

If you feel as though you need to stretch a bit...do so. I wouldn't stretch for 1/2 hour, but a little aint going to hurt.

HEAT is really what you need to be generating.....be it on a treadmill, bike or whatever....generating heat will keep things plyable, etc......think of a piece of taffy when it's cold, it's brittle....when it's hot, it can stretch and bend.

Hey Bob, I just have a question about multivitamins, is GNC brand suitable? And I've got weaker knees joints and it becomes an issue during leg workouts, would glucosamine be a helpful addition?

Thanks

Slow burn cardio

Pro Bob Chick, slow burn cadio is the greatest thing ever discovered. I just moved to a new location and havent been in gym in two months but I have been walking and losing fat. I cannot believe the results I am getting from just eating and walking. The War for the World videos are a great realistic map to follow. For all of the guys who follow this thread and contribute, my hats off to the humor.

War for the worlds and tendonitus

Bob i just finished watching war for the worlds and a couple of your training DVDS and i have to say two words here very imppressive.
the way that ypu did them was extremely professional informative and entertaining and i'm very glad i bought them.
I found it amazing how much you improved over just ten weeks time
also that you were doing soo much cardio without losing any muscle
it was also great seeing tom prince he's been one of my inspirations
for about ten yrs now so a great deal of respect for both you and tom.

One thing though bob in my case i've been training naturally for over 29ys
and i have to tell ya i'm still growin at 44 and getting better even my back is growing soo i think your progress greatly depends on knowledge dedication and genetics and not really your age
i don't know why biut people tend to think once you are past 40 its all downhill and that you are past your prime i don't buy it and i don't think thats true i think it's all mental thing
you know the body can achieve what the mind believes
is my mantra.

I have some questions but i'm only going to ask two right now if thats ok.

1. Have you ever had chronic tendonitus and if so how did you treat it
or get rid of it? i have a very small section of the left arm tricep tendon
right above the elbow point thats been bugging the hell out of me for months
and it's hampering my workouts to the point were i'm thinking i might try
some deca for the first time in my life i've tried resting it heat cold DMSO
fish oil krill oil flax oil you name it and it still won't heal up.

2. Concerning Lee priest i think the man needs to be back mixing it up with the other pros will he ever be reinstated?
like you he is one of the sports great pros and personalitys and i think it would suck if he could never compete in the IFBB again i know he screwed up but i think he deserves one more chance.

I went to the olympia last year and i'm going again this year you and shawn
always do a great job maybe if i'm lucky i'll have a chance to meet you in person.

Bob,
Love the advice you're giving. Also loved your War of The World's series - - it was entertaining and chock full of great tips.

I would appreciate your take on the following:

1. Do you, or most bodybuilders, drink a supplement during your workout (whether it's a carb or carb/protein drink)? Do you drink a liquid supplement immediately after your workout to take advantage of the 'anabolic window' or is food the preferred choice pwo?

2. Aside from intensity and set/rep count, what are the major differences between your muscle building workouts and your contest prep workouts? Do you use any so-called 'advanced techniques' like forced reps, rest-pause, etc during the muscle building phase?

Appreciate your response . . .

Bob, miss this one a few up?

I was forced to take of 8 weeks after I had major back surgery back in 1998.....lost a little size, nt as much as I thought I would.

It was tougher mentally, than physically.....strength went to ****, felt like starting from day 1 again.
