If I saw you coming up a mountain like that, I'd be thinking about a possible Big Foot sighting....

Nice.

Quality time with the kids. No mountains near us; we go to the park or the beach!

I could never live where it was under 60 degrees most of the year... but I can see that you really love it there.

There are some great things about it being cold here. There is no better feeling than getting close to the one you love on those cold nights. The wind howling outside causing the tree tops to dance in the moonlight. The fireplace giving off a soft glow which grows stronger when the wind finds it's way down the chimney. Knowing it is 40 below zero outside in the dark, and yet being so warm with your spouse in your arms and the heat from the fire. Sometimes when the wind is still and the moon is full, you can hear the wolves howl. It sends shivers up your spine.

Reminds me a lot of the Colorado mountains above timberline where I used to hike a lot. It's great for you to be teaching him the beauty of nature as well as the fragility, as well as the danger.

I was born in Glenwood Springs, CO. Yes it does look a bit like Colorado although no red mountains. The size of the mountains here are inspiring and I live in a large Valley that is surrounded by them. I miss Colorado at times, I still have family there.

lol Alaska was purchased from Russia for like 20 cents an acre back in the 1800s. Alaska was a territory for years until 1959. I wished as do a lot of Alaskans that we were still a territory.

That lake is glacier fed and the water is about 2 degrees above freezing. I imagine you would be a floating Popsicle in about 5 mins. The Lakes at lower elevation are not to bad though, we actually get some 80 degree weather in the summer. This summer has been very cool though, only one day above 70 so far. The temp where the pics were taken was about 58 degrees.
