Suit too plain for first show?
Hi everyone, I'm having a dilmena. I need to buy a two-piece suit ASAP as I'm hoping to compete in my first figure show August 1 at the Dexter Jackson Classic. Seeing as how there will be a lot of pros there and it's a level IVA show, I don't want to look silly in my suit selection. I'm looking at two suits. I have a limited budget of $200 so here's my question, would this suit be too plain for an amateur competition even though the show is IVA? This is the suit I"m considering: http://divaexchange.com/classifieds/detail.php?id=2189
The other suit I"m considering is ordering from PassionFruit their new Designer series, which would also be plain: http://www.passionfruitdesigns.com/designer.htm
I'm concerned that the first one might be too plain, and wondered if the velvet would look silly?
What do you think I should do???

I'm no expert on this, but IMO I like the second one better. The first one looks kind of cheap and the velvet doesn't do much for it.

I agree, the 2nd one is much better. I also had a friend that bought a plain suit and put on the jewels herself. She said she saved so much money by dressing it up herself. Not exactly sure how she kept them but I'm sure a craft store has something inexpensive. Just as an alternative

Problem is time and lack of creativity. I don't have crystals, glue, etc. and I don't have the time to do it, quite honestly. I work 3-4 jobs a week and I just don't have time to do extra

I don't blame you and honestly you doing it yourself won't really save you any money. If the suit maker is of any salt they use only Swarovski crystals and they can but them in bulk which saves an infinate amount of money. If you were to buy all the crystals you would need to do a suit somewhere like Michael's you would end up spending BIG bucks.
I definately like the suits at passionfruit they are nice quality and well made. The do a lot of the pro's suits (as you can see by their website).
I have my suits custom made at Cherry Bombs and I do the crystal work because I can buy Swarovski wholesale and I have the time.
Anyhow, I don't think you can go wrong with the one from passionfruit.
You can always check on Ebay too there are a number of nice suits on there too.
